Abstract

PURPOSE: To remarkably enhance the electrical contact characteristics of an Ag-Sn oxide type electrical contact material by adding a little Pb to an Ag-Sn alloy optionally together wirth other specified metalo and internally oxidizing the alloy to enable Sn≥4% to be contained.
CONSTITUTION: To an Ag-Sn alloy contg. Sn 4W9% is added Pb 0.05W0.5% or further added one or more out of Cu 0.5W5%, Cd 0.2W5%, Mn 0.01W1%, Ni 0.01W1% and Mg 0.01W1%. This alloy is then heated in an oxidizing atmosphere to diffuse 02 in the alloy, thereby converting the metals other than Ag into oxides. At this time, the Pb added in an amt. of 0.05W0.5% remarkably facilitates the 02 diffusion to enable Sn≥4% to be contained, resulting in enhanced electrical contact characteristics. In addn., the metals such as Cu uniformly disperse as oxides in the Ag to enhance the characteristics.
