Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an electrical contact material causing very hardly melt sticking under contact pressure by internally oxidizing an alloy having a composition consisting of Ag, a specified amount of Sn and a specified amount of Bi while making the Sn content higher than the Bi content so as to carry out selective oxidation.
CONSTITUTION: An electrical contact material is formed with an alloy having a composition consisting of Ag, 1.5W6wt.% Sn and 1W1.5wt.% Bi while making the Sn content higher than the Bi content. When this Ag-Sn-Bi alloy is internally oxidized, the added Bi increases extremely the progress speed of the internal oxidation of the alloy, and particles precipitated by selective oxidation are made very fine. After finishing the internal oxidation, an electrical contact material is manufactured by a 1 step powder metallurgical method composed of press molding and sintering or pulverizing, press molding and sintering. To the alloy may be added an element which is soluble in Ag and internally oxidizable, e.g., Cu, Zn, Sb, Pb, Mg or Mn by an amount smaller than that of Sn.
