Abstract

PURPOSE: To lower fuel consumption through lowering of back pressure, by employing an arrangement in which an exhaust-gas by-pass valve in turbocharger is opened also when transmission is shifted to its overdrive position.
CONSTITUTION: Pressure at the outlet of turbocharger compressor is introduced via inlet port 13 to chamber 11a of actuator 11 defined by diaphragm 12, whereas another chamber 11b of actuator 11 is communicated to the atmosphere via opening 11c. An exhaust-gas by-pass valve 15 is connected via rod 14 to diaphragm 12, so that by-pass passage 3 by-passing turbocharger turbine is opened and closed by the valve 15. Annular space 16 is formed in chamber 11b and an annular member 17 is in turn fitted in the annular space 16 so that it is freely movable in the longitudinal direction of actuator 11. Between the annular member 17 and diaphragm 12, there is interposed a spring 22. Further, an oil chamber 23 defined by the annular member 17 and casing is connected with a pipe 24 communicated to oil pump and a pipe 25 having an electromagnetic valve 26 which is energized when transmission is shifted to its overdrive position.
