Abstract

PURPOSE: To let charging be performed only at the portions corresponding to images without increasing the size of the charger by providing charge wires which are selected or charged to the length corresponding to the length of the image part on photoreceptor.
CONSTITUTION: Insulation parts 2, 3 are provided at both ends of a shield body 1 of channel form in section with an opening in one way and a charge wire 4 whose entire part is composed of a conductor and charge wires 5, 6 whose portions beyond separating points 7, 8 are constituted by insulation parts 9, 10 are stretched between these insulation parts 2, 3. With such constitution, the control part is operated by a copy size magnification selection mechanism or paper sise detection mechanism to select an adequate charger length and select any of input terminals 11, through which a voltage is applied. Hence, the developer will not deposit on the non-image part, the burden of cleaning device will be reduced and the fatigue of the photoreceptor may be prevented.
