Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a copy image free from uneven transfer and fog, by providing a transfer-preceding corona discharger between a developing device and a transfer charger in order to apply a specified bias voltage.
CONSTITUTION: Surface potential of photoreceptor 1 after development is +700V and +200V, respectively. Discharge electrode 4 is covered with discharger shield 5, and subjected to about 6kV AC voltage. Tungsten wires are stretched as a control grating at the position of the opening of discharger on the side of photoreceptor 1, and connected to bias voltage source 7. Bias voltage between the light and dark area voltage of photoreceptor 1 is selected in order to form an accelerating electric field and a restricting electric field of corona ions between the surface potential of photoreceptor 1 and the control grating. As a result, the dark area toner is charged more negatively to enhance transferability, and only the toner attached to nonimage areas is converted into a reverse polarity, thus permitting uneven transfer and fog to be prevented.
