Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable immediate response of ignition timing of an automotive engine to lag side particularly when the engine is abruptly accelerated from normally running state in a vacuum spark advancing system to improve the response characteristics of the engine at idling time. CONSTITUTION:When an automotive engine is abruptly accelerated from normally running state, large quantity of air is introduced into an intake manifold 20 with the result that both an advance port 12 and the manifold 20 become substantially the atmospheric pressure. The atmospheric air supplied from the port 12 is immediately introduced through a passage 71 into second chamber 61, but the atmospheric air supplied from the manifold 20 is gradually introduced through an orifice 40 into first chamber 60 resulting in residual vacuum in the chamber 60 for a while. Thus, a diaphragm piston 59 is downwardly displaced to cause a valve 67 to open a passage 63. Accordingly, the atmospheric air in the chamber 61 is introduced through third chamber 62 from an output port 54 into a vacuum advancer 31 so as to cut vacuum spark advance.
