Abstract

PURPOSE: The esterification reaction of 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanol with mandelic acid is conducted in the presence of at least one salt of metals of group Ib, IIb, IV, IVb and VIII in the periodic table as well as an esterification catalyst to produce high-purity title compound in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: In the esterification of 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanol and mandelic acid, at least one salt of metals of group Ib, IIb, IV, IVb and VIII in the periodic table such as Cu, Zn, Ti, Cr, Fe, along with an esterification catalyst as an acid catalyst are employed to produce 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexyl mandelate. The amount of the metal salts are 0.002W3 wt% and the combination of 2 or more kinds of metal salt improves the purification efficiency.
