NEW MATERIAL:1-Methylsulfinyl-1-methylthio-2-(N-alkylpyrrolyl-2-) ethylene of formulaI(R is lower alkyl, preferably methyl).
EXAMPLE: 1-methylsufinyl-1-methylthio-2-(N-methylpyrrolyl-2)ethylene.
USE: Intermediates of tolmetin,[N-methyl-5-(p-toluoyl)pyrrolyl-2], an autiflammatory agent.
PREPARATION: The reaction between an aldehyde of formula II and formaldehyde dimethylmercaptal-s-oxide of formula III is carried out in the presence of a strong base to afford the objective compound of formulaI. The resulting product is reacted with acetic anhydride, treated with an amine and hydrolyzed by an alkali to give (N-methylpyrrolyl-2) acetic acid that is useful as the starting material of tolmetin.
