Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide the title apparatus for vaccum-depositing continuously and uniformly a metal or an alloy thereof on carbon fiber by ion plating, by arranging a plurality of crucibles for evaporating the metal in series at intervals in the progress direction of the carbon fiber. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of evaporation crucibles 4 are arranged in vacuum vessel 1 for ion plating in series at intervals in the progress direction of carbon fiber 2. A metal such as Al, Mg or Ti, or an alloy thereof is charged into crucibles 4 from feeder 3 and melted by heating with work coils 5. As the metal is melted, fiber 2 is run by being wound in the arrow direction, and the metal is vacuum- deposited on fiber 2 by ion plating to manufacture deposited carbon fiber 2'.
