A metal such as Al, Mg or Ti, or an alloy thereof is charged into crucibles 4 from feeder 3 and melted by heating with work coils 5. As the metal is melted, fiber 2 is run by being wound in the arrow direction, and the metal is vacuum- deposited on fiber 2 by ion plating to manufacture deposited carbon fiber 2'.
