CONSTITUTION: A slag layer containing 4 to 10 wt% MgO and having a basicity (MgO + CaO)/SiO2) of more than 1 is formed on the surface of molten metal charg ed into a molten metal container for mixer, mixing car, etc. Thus, the melting d amage to the MgO bricks can be effectively prevented without impairing the fluid ity of slag. The method exhibits its great efficiency particularly for basic furnaces.
