Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide the title flux with considerably enhanced desulfurization power by adding aluminum fluoride to a lime-alumina type flux.
CONSTITUTION: The flux consists of CaO; 30W70 wt%, Al2O3; 10W60 wt% and AlF3; 5W50 wt%, or further contains SiO2; 0.1W20 wt%.
EFFECT: Because of high slagging rate and superior melt fluidity, the flux shows superior desulfurization performance. It is simply refined, little erosion of furnace material occurs, and CaC2 is not formed, thereby resulting in no trouble such as difficulty in dissolution. Since efficient desulfurization can be performed, metallurgically superior ingots can be manufactured.
