Abstract
PURPOSE: To stably dephosphorize molten steel in a ladle by raising the temp. of the steel with electric heat in the presence of molten slag having a specified composition, adding sodium metasilicate, and agitating the molten steel with an inert gas.
CONSTITUTION: Molten steel from a steel making furnace such as a converter is received in ladle 2, and molten synthetic slag 4 having a CaO/SiO2 ratio of 1W1.5 is added. Electrode 7 is dipped in molten slag 4 and supplied with electric current to heat molten steel 3 and raise the temp. At this time, the lining of ladle 2 is hardly damaged by melting due to slag 4. Sodium metasilicate is then added from hopper 6, and gaseous Ar is blown into steel 3 through lance 8 to agitate steel 3. Thus, the contact of steel 3 with slag 4 is increased, and steel 3 is dephosphorized with Na2O in the sodium metasilicate.
