Abstract

PURPOSE:To raise both desulfurization and dephosphorization efficiencies as well as to make the discharge of slag easier by a procedure in which a slag-softening agent is added to molten pig iron after being taken out of furnace and then a desulfurizing agent and/or a dephosphorizing agent is added with stirring. CONSTITUTION:A slag-softening agent, e.g., soda ash, fluirite, a boronic compound, etc., together with a carrier gas, is blown into the molten pig iron 3 in the mixer car 2 from the lance 1 to lower the coagulating temperature and viscosity of the slag 4 for softening. Then, a desulfurizing agent and/or a dephosphorizing agent is injected, together with a carrier gas, into the molten pig iron 3 from the lance 1, where the wettability of the slag 4 and the molten pig iron 3 is made better because of the fluidity of the slag 4 and therefore the desulfurizing and/or dephosphorizing reaction in the molten pig iron 3 is rapidly accelerated. Thus, the desulfurizing agent, etc., used can be contributed to the desulfurizing and/or dephosphorizing reaction without wasteful consumption substantially.
