Abstract
PURPOSE:Molten pig iron is treated in ladel to be oxidized and desilicated removing slag of high SiO2 content. Then sintered ore is added to the molten metal which is agitated to remove phosphorus present in the molten steel by oxidation thereby providing low phosphorus pig iron. CONSTITUTION:Molten pig iron is charged in a ladel having an agitator and an oxigen-blowing lance pipe is dipped into the molten metal. While agitating the molten metal, oxygen is blown through the lance into the molten metal to oxidize mainly Si. Slag that is caused to contain increased amount of SiO2 is removed, then sintered ore, dephosphorizing agent, is added to the molten metal which is being agitated. The phosphorus present in the molten metal is oxidized by iron oxide in the sintered ore to form P2O5, which combines with CaO in the sintered ore to be stabilized in the slag. The slag is exhausted leaving low phosphorus pig iron useful in steel production.
