Abstract
PURPOSE:To enrich Mn content in hot-metal and increase Si content at a low cost, by adding Mn ores to hot-metal discharged from blast furnace, and adjusting the basicity of molten slag. CONSTITUTION:Mn ores are added to molten blast furnace metal in a hot-metal trough or an agitating vessel. Fe2O3, FeO, MnO, etc. in the ores are reduced by Si in the hot-metal to become Fe and Mn, so that the Mn content in the hot-metal is increased. At the same time, Si is oxidized to SiO2 to turn into slag, thereby decreasing in quantity. When making a steel by oxygen blowing of this hot-metal in an inverter, Si as heat source decreases, but the quantity of SiO2 increasing in the inverter slag is small, so that the required amount of CaO slag making agent may be small, without risk of damaging the basic refractory lining. In this case, CaO is added to the molten slag on the hot-metal, and the basicity is adjusted to 1.0-2.0, and the reducing rate of MnO in the Mn ores may be increased. Since expensive ferro-alloy such as Fe-Mn in not used, the hot-metal may be enriched in Mn at a low cost.
