Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform rapid and highly accurate measurement by generating resonance acoustic vibrations within a hermetic case by a bar-form resonating member and measuring thermal diffusivity by the use of opto-acoustic effect.
CONSTITUTION: Electromagnetic waves such as laser light or other having been amplitude-modulated at high frequencies by a chopper or the like are absorbed in the absorption layer of a sample 1b through the electromagnetic wave incident window 3 of a hermetic case 2. This causes the acoustic vibrations owing to the pressure waves to be generated in the hermetic space of the case 2 by the evolution of heat of the sample 1a corresponding to the modulation frequencies. The vibrations are resonated by the bar-form resonating member of the specified size and shape in the case 2 and the amplitude of acoustic vibrations inversely proportional to the modulating frequencies become high sound pressure without any decrease in their amplitude. Hence, this sound pressure is detected at good S/N with a sound pressure detecting part 5. In addition, it is possible to process the detected value with a lock-in amplitude of a short time constant, thus the rapid and highly accurate measurement of thermal diffusivity owing to opto-acoustic effect may be performed.
