Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect an uneven scale with high precision by making a vibrator, provided opposing to the uneven scale at a fine interval, resonate at a high frequency and then by varying the resonance frequency of the vibrator under an influenece of a reflected wave, etc., at an even part after moving this vibrating vibrator in parallel along the uneven scale.
CONSTITUTION: Scale 1 is provided with concave grooves 1a at fixed intervals of a scale. Vibrator 2 of a crystal, etc., provided opposing the scale 1 at a fine interval, moves in parallel while keeping the opposing interval constant. Here, high-frequency oscillator 3 exciting vibrator 2 and detector 4 detecting variation of vibration are arranged. Through the oscillation of oscillator 3, vibrator 2 is excited to vibrate and its vibration propagates to the surface of scale 1, but the propagation state of a reflected wave changes where vibrator 2 opposes to concave groove 1a, varying the resonance frequency of vibtator 2. Therefore, the position of the scale can be discriminated with high precision by detecting and judging this variation of vibration by detector 4.
