Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable to measure the measuring unit apart from the measured objective, by using the scattered rays in which rays are scattered on the surface of measured objective after direct contact, in the measuring unit for the surface level such as liquid with rays such as laser. CONSTITUTION:The laser rays 4 in amplitude modulation with the signal from modulation wave oscillating section are radiated on the liquid surface 5 from the light transmission section 2, and a part 7 of the scattered light is received at the photo detection section 9, and it is fed to the processing section 10 after amplification and demodulation. The processing section 10 checks the phase difference between the signal from the modulation wave oscillating section and from the photo reception section 9 to obtain the distance from the photo transmission section 2 to the liquid surface 5 based on it. Thus, the surface level of liquid can be measured with the measuring unit apart from measured object. To compensate the effect to the said phase difference due to ambient temperature, the laser 11 propagating known distance is used.
