Abstract
PURPOSE: To automatically forecast the transition of the road surface state by retaining the microwave transmission level constant and observing the received reflected wave level from the substance of the road surface.
CONSTITUTION: A microwave transmitter 5 transmits constant level of a vertically polarized microwave toward the road surface at substantially the same point as the measuring point of an infrared radiation thermometer 4. On the other hand, a microwave receiver 6 is mounted at the position where it receives the microwave regularly reflected on the road surface 1a and transmits the received microwave through a cable 7 to a data processor 8. The data processor 8 utilizes the calculating function of the microprocessor or the like to process the measured road surface temperature, atmospheric temperature and received microwave signal so as to forecast the freezing of the road surface 1a.
