Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable oxyacid components of selenium to be recovered in high purity and recycled by detaching an anion exchange resin, with an aq. soln. of an acid, used to treat effluent treated with a cation exchange resin.
CONSTITUTION: Oxyacid salts of selenium are contained as principal components in effluent from a process for electrically coloring Al, esp. a process for washing products or a process for washing part of a waste electrolytic soln. This effluent is treated with a cation exchange resin, adjusted to pH≤6, and treated with an anion exchange resin to adsorption-remove the oxyacid components of selenium, e.g. selenous acid, selenic acid and their salts. The components-adsorbed anion exchange resin is then detached with an aq. soln. of a mineral acid, esp. sulfuric acid to recover a soln. contg. above 800 mg/l of selenium components. All or part of this soln. is recycled to the above coloring process. The residual oxyacid components of selenium in effluent from the treatment of the anion exchange resin is maintained at above 1mg/l.
