Abstract
PURPOSE: To efficiently recover Tl of high purity from a Tl-contg. substance by pulping TlCl with water added, blowing Cl into the pulp to convert the TlCl into TlCl3, and recovering Tl.
CONSTITUTION: Sulfuric acid is added to a lead electrolytic soln. to separate lead in the soln. as lead sulfate, and hydrochloric acid is added to the residual Tl-contg. soln. to form TlCl. The TlCl is separated from the soln. by filtration and adding water to make pulp of 100W300g/l concn. Cl gas is blown at about 100ml/min rate into said pulp for about 4hr to prepare a soln. contg. dissolved TlCl3 of high concn. for leaching. A metal such as Zn which is electrochemically baser than Tl is then added to said soln. to form spongy Tl, and this Tl is subjected to dissolution treatment with sulfuric acid. Dissolution treatment with NaOH is continuously carried out at about 400°C, and the resulting Tl is separated from soda brine.
