Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:N-Alkenylmoranoline derivative of formula I [R is II (n is 1-3), III], and its acid addition salt.
USE: Remedy and prophylaxis for hyperglycemia and various diseases caused by hyper-glycoplasmia. Strong activity to inhibit the increase of blood sugar level.
PROCESS: The compound I is prepared by reacting moranoline with an active alkenyl group reagent such as alkenyl halide, alkenylsulfonic acid ester, etc., in a polar solvent such as water, alcohol, DMSO, DMF, etc., or in an emulsified medium containing the above polar solvent and a non-polar solvent such as benzene, hexane, etc., in the presence of an acid trapping agent such as alkali hydroxide, alkali carbonate, alkali bicarbonate, etc., at room temperature or with heating. When the reaction is carried out in the emulsified medium, it is preferable to add a phase transfer catalyst such as a cationic surface active agent, to the reaction system.
