Abstract
PURPOSE:To avoid the local heating for the tube body even with the high voltage applied and thus to secure the steady and large amount output for the laser beam for a long period of time by forming the tip part of the electrode to become the cathode of the flash lamp into a conical shape. CONSTITUTION:With application of the voltage between a pair of electrodes 4 and 5 of flash lamp 1, the discharge current is caused between the end faces of electrode 4 and 5 as shown by the chained lines in the figure. As tip face 5a of electrode 5 to become the cathode features a circular and smooth shape with a smaller diameter than the inner diameter of tube body 3, the discharge is caused in a circular arc or ring shape from the ridgeline formed by the tip face (a). As a result, the density of the discharge current per unit area at electrode 5 is much less than that generated in concentration to one discharge point, thus preventing electrode 5 from being heated locally and then fused and dispersed away. Furthermore, the ridgeline formed by electrode 5a is distant away from the inner circumference surface of body 3 by a fixed distance, so that the heat caused by heating the ridgeline does not transmit body 3 easily and is dispersed away outside body 3. As a result, the steady function of flash lamp 1 can be maintained for a long time.
