Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a recording medium through energy beam radiation of high contrast and sensitivity suited for high speed recording by containing the specific metal oxides and oxidizing agents thereby providing the recording layer.
CONSTITUTION: Non-transparent metal oxide layers 1 of oxygen starvation state obtained through vapor deposition of compounds such as In2O3, WO3. BaTiO3, etc. in a high vacuum of about 10-5 to 10-6 and layers 2 of oxidizing agents such as MnO2, V2O5, CrO3 are alternately laminated on a substrate 3 to form a recording layer 4 (or both of the abovementioned materials may be mixed). The mole ratios of the abovementined oxides of oxygen starvation state and oxidizing agents are preferably about 0.001 to 1 (particularly 0.01 to 1). The provision of an antireflecting layer, protecting layer on the recording layer 4 is also desirable.
