Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a tetrahydrofuran derivative, etc. useful as an intermediate of pharmaceuticals, etc., in high purity and yield, by the reaction of 2-alkoxytetrahydrofuran derivative, etc. with an enol derivative in an inert solvent in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: The tetrahydrofuran (or pyran) derivative III is prepared by reacting a 2-alkoxytetrahydrofuran (or pyran) derivative I (n is 1, 2: R is H, alkyl, aryl, aralkyl; R' is lower alkyl) with an enol derivative II [R1-3 are H, alkyl, aryl, aralkyl; or two of them may together form a ring; X is -Si(R")3, -CO-R'" (R" is lower alkyl; R'" is lower alkyl, aryl, etc.), in an inert solvent such as halogenated hydrocarbon, in the presence of a Lewis acid such as TiCl4, at -100 - +25°C.
