Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a composite contact point of long life which is protected from fusion, adhesion and deformation in opening and closing of heavy load and has stabilized low initial contact resistance by dispersing WC particles in an Au-Cu alloy to composite strengthening the alloy.
CONSTITUTION: Cu layer 2 and Si layer or Ni layer 3 are formed on Fe type contact point base metal 1 to make ground 4. The surface of ground 4 is covered with contact point surface layer 5 made of AuCu-WC alloy contg. about 30W50 vol% of coprecipitated WC particles of a diameter below about 10μ. Layer 5 is formed as follows: WC particles are mixed into an AuCu alloy plating soln. with stirring and composite electroplating is carried out to uniformly disperse the WC particles in an AuCu alloy. Thus, a composite contact point of high performance is obtd. which is protected from fusion, adhesion and deformation in opening and closing of heavy load. By forming a pure Au layer on layer 5, oxidation of Cu in the alloy layer is prevented, and hence contact resistance is stabilized furthermore.
