Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:5-Alkoxy-picolinic acid ester of formula I (R1 is 1W6C alkyl; R2 is phenyl, substituted phenyl, indanyl).
EXAMPLE: 5-n-Butyloxy-picolinic acid 5-indanyl ester.
USE: Hypotensive agent for oral administration.
PROCESS: The compound I can be prepared either by reacting 5-alkoxypicolinic acid II (M is H, metal atom) or its metal salt with phenol or substituted phenol III (R3 is H, lower alkyl, acetyl) in the presence of a condensing agent such as dicyclohexylcarbodiimide, in an organic solvent such as chloroform, dioxane, etc., at 0W40°C, or by reacting 5-alkoxy-picolinic acid halide IV (X is halogen) with the compound III in the presence of a base such as pyridine, triethylamine, etc. in an organic solvent such as chloroform.
