PURPOSE: To enhance the pitting corrosion resistance of a corrosion resistance Al-Mg alloy or an Al-Mn alloy with superior workability by adding a specific amt. of Zn.
CONSTITUTION: An Al-Mg alloy with superior strength and corrosion resistance or an Al-Mn alloy with relatively high strength, superior workability and corrosion resistance still has a disadvantageous point with respect to pitting corrosion resistance. By adding 0.05W1.0 wt% Zn, the thickness of an oxide film with superior corrosion resistance naturally formed on the alloy surface is held as thin as possible. Thus, the corrosion form of the alloy is turned to general corrosion, controlling local dissolution and pitting corrosion.
