Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a liquid metal pump wherein the installation of an overflow column is eliminated by providing a partition plate which vertically moves with the changes in liquid metal surface so as to open and close an overflow nozzle, and eliminating the engulfing of an inert argon gas by a discharge sodium solution.
CONSTITUTION: When a free liquid sodium surface 4 is below an overflow nozzle 5, a float 14 falls by its empty weight to a site at which the float 4 is stopped by a lower stopper 17, and a partition plate 15 fully opens an open section of the overflow nozzle 5. When the liquid surface 4 elevates and a sodium liquid is discharged outside the pump through the overflow nozzle 5, the float 14 elevates. The partition plate 15 opens a sodium section alone at the open section in the overflow nozzle 5 and plugs an inert argon gas flow passage. Thus, the discharge of inert argon gas the engulfing of the inert argon gas by the sodium liquid discharged is eliminated.
