Abstract

PURPOSE: To accomplish effective dehydration and post-treatment through pH control close ti the neutral level with an acid silicate sol and lime emulsion added to a mud, sludge or the like with a high water content.
CONSTITUTION: A mud 13 in a tank 12 is fed to inlet port 3 of a screw conveyor 1. Then, while an acid silicate sol is being poured, the sludge 13 is moved in a rapid agitation area 9 undergoing a rapid stirring with a ribbon screw 7 and a padle 6. A lime emulsion is poured into the sludge 13 from a tank 19 near the final end of the area 9 and rapidly stirred to control the pH thereof close to 7 for example. The sludge thus gelated is moved in a slow agitation area 10 while slowly stirred with a screw 8. The sludge, still with a high water content, is discharged out from an outlet port 4 as a neutral gel of 7 in pH.
