Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a developed sharp image with the use of one component developeing agent by accomplishing the development with the use of first an insulating developing agent feeder having a surface insulating property higher than 10<6> ohms cm and a conductive developing agent feeder having a surface insulating property lower than 10<5> ohms cm and supplied with a bias voltage. CONSTITUTION:A first developing roller 9 is formed on its shaft with an insulating elastic layer 9a covered with silicone rubber. The elastic layer 9a is made of an insulating substance higher than 10<6> ohms cm so that an image having an edge effect can be obtained. The image developed by the first developing roller 9 is then developed with the use of a second developing roller 10. This second roller 10 has its surface made of a conductive elastic layer 10a which has an intrinsic resistivity lower than 10<5> ohms cm and which is prepared by mixing a conductive substance such as carbon into the elastic substance used in the first roller 9. Moreover, the second roller 10 is supplied from a power source 13 with a bias voltage which is equal to or slightly higher than the residual potential upon a photosensitive drum 7.
