【発明の詳細な説明】

【従来技術及びその課題】本発明は、日常の婦人衛生用
並びに軽度の日々の分泌物及び排泄物による染みに対す
る下着の保護用に特に適した吸収体に関する。これは、
柔らかくしなやかでありかつ身体及びこれが接着取付け
される肌着と容易に同じ形となり得る非常に薄く軽量で
非常に吸収性のあるパッドを備える。より特別には、こ
の品物は、凹みと接着剤の層とがある肌着側の面を備
え、この接着剤層は凹みのあるこの面と接触しこの面の

【０００２】特に回数の多い軽度の身体排泄物に悩ませ
られる多くに婦人にとって染みからの下着の防護が長年
の問題であったため、従来技術は防護用のパッド及び保
護具に関する特許で満ちている。これらの特許は、一般
に、肌着側の液体不透性の遮断層と重なっている多孔性
の身体接触層、及び身体接触層と遮断層との間の吸収材
料の層を有する層状構成体について記述している。組み
合わせられた保護体を下着の股の部分に固定するため
に、液体遮断層の肌着側に接着剤が取り付けられる。更
に、これが下着に定置されるまで接着剤が何にも接触し
ないように、剥離層が接着剤層に除去可能に貼り付けら
れる。
【０００３】吸収体パッドの構成材料として、従来技術
の身体接触層は、アイ・エヌ・ネスの米国特許第４８８
４７４１９号、ケムパウの米国特許第３０４４４６７
号、ヘンドリックスの米国特許第３４６３１５４号及び
シュナイダーの米国特許第３５７０４９１号により記述
されたような吸収性、多孔質の乾燥不織ウェブ又は目の
粗い形式の材料を含む。かかる材料は粗い組織でありか

上の層から水分が降りて皮膚に対する常に湿った表面と
なる。

２３号のような従来技術の身体接触層は、接着剤で被覆
された疎水性繊維、或いは個々の繊維を互いに融合させ
るように熱及び／又は圧力を受けた疎水性繊維で作られ
た不織布を含む。かかる材料は、吸収が限定され、かつ
吸収及び保持用の下方層への通過を許すように作用す
る。その結果、流体は身体から引き離され、身体接触層
の表面から離れて乾燥感を与える。
【０００５】身体接触層に対する疎水性繊維の使用は下
方の吸収層への流体の通過を許し表面層に湿り気を残さ
ず、長期間にわたる乾燥感により装着者により大きな快
適感を与える。かかる特徴に対する希望は、疎水性材料
に多孔性を与える化学的方法を説明するレベスケの米国
特許第３８３８６９２号により認識された。
【０００６】従来技術により示された吸収層は、通常
は、エス・エル・コポロフの米国特許第４５５２６１８
号と第４５５５１９２号、デー・シー・ホルトマンの米
国特許第４５４４５９６号と第４５３６４３２号、及び
ピー・ケー・チャタージーの米国特許第４４７４９４９
号に記述されたようなパルプフラッフで構成される。
【０００７】或いは、従来技術の吸収層は、マラニーの
米国特許第４７５６７８６号と第４６８４５７０号に記
述されたようなパルプフラッフ及び合成繊維の混合物よ
り構成することができる。又は、吸収層をパルプフラッ
フと共に成型された熱可塑性樹脂とすることができる。

【０００９】吸収層と肌着との間に置かれる液体不透性
の遮断層は、通常は、ポリエチレン、ポリプロピレン、
又は類似材料で作られる。かかる層がアール・コープマ
ンの米国特許第４７３１０６６号に示される。
【００１０】一般に、初期の従来技術は、大量の流体を
吸収するように適正に作られたとき厚くてかさ張る木材
パルプのフラッフで作られたパッドを教えている。本技
術における近年の開発は、（ワイ・レベスケの米国特許
第４５０７１２２号に示されるような）みずごけピート
モスのような材料、及びパルプよりも非常に大量の流体
（吸収体と同重量の流体）を吸収して、より薄い吸収パ
ッドを製造できる超吸収ポリマーのような材料の使用を
教示する。
【００１１】従来技術は、また、吸収層の繊維を高密度
化域とするように一緒に結合させるための熱及び／又は
圧力の適用も教える。流体がかかる高密度化域と接触す
ると、この流体はこの層を通過して流体の導入点から離
れようとする傾向がある。この作用がパッドの失敗の１
原因であるパッドの局部的飽和の阻止を助ける。例え
ば、参考文献として取り入れられたリチャードの米国特
許４０５９１１４号及びペルデルヴィッチ他の米国特許
第４８８６６９７号を参照されたい。
【００１２】パッド構造は、流体が身体接触面にきたと
きに、この流体を吸収層内に流し、パッドを捨てるまで
ここに留めるように設計される。しかし、この構造の肌
着側の層は、通常は流体不透性の遮断層であり、これが
流体がパッドを通って肌着側に流れ続ける場合における
装着者の下着への漏れを防ぐ。
【００１３】かかる従来技術のパッドは、これが取り付
けられた下着を保護するように作用することは疑いない
が、これらは性能の一つの基本分野においては不十分で
ある。これらは、パッドの横方向及び長手方向の縁に向
かって流体を引き、装着者の衣類上へのパッドからの漏
れを許して失敗の可能性を増大させる傾向がある。
【００１４】より近年では、パッドの周囲及び内部の両
方において、パッドの縁への流体の移動及び装着者の下
着への漏れを防止し又は少なくとも妨害する流体遮断部
を形成する吸収パッドが開発された。かかるパッドは多
層構成のものであり、最適には各層に易融性の繊維を含
む。流体遮断部はパッドの総ての層をｚ方向（ここでは
身体側から肌着側に通る方向を呼ぶ）に一緒に熱的に融
合させることにより形成される。熱及び圧力は、易融性
繊維を熔融させて熔融されない繊維の間の隙間の空間内
に流入させるように選択的に加えられる。毛管状の空間
を無くすことにより、融合域を通る流体が無くされ又は
大幅に減らされる。例えば、米国特許第４８８６６９７
号（ペルデルヴィッチ他）、及び本発明と同じ譲受人に
譲渡された米国特願第０７／９６０６６４号「肌着保護
体」を参照されたい。
【００１５】しかし、上述の製品、特に薄手の製品は、
（身体側及び肌着側の両面とも）パッドの外側層が熱と
圧力との加えられた領域において圧縮された状態にさせ
られる。このため、パッドに凹みができる。即ち、パッ
ドを断面で見たときに、パッドの外側表面はパッドの中
心に向かってｚ方向で湾曲するであろう。これは、一般
に、パッドの身体側の表面においては問題ではない。事
実、この表面の高密度化を求めた多くの従来技術の文献
が存在する。
【００１６】しかし、肌着側の表面においては、もしこ
の表面が平らでなければ問題が発生する可能性がある。
通常の商業的な実施においては、パッドを、使用中、適
所に保持するために肌着側の面に貼り着ける位置決め用
接着剤が探求された。かかる接着剤は、典型的には、ま
ず接着剤を剥離紙に塗布し更に転写塗布する方法により
塗布される。次いで、剥離紙の接着剤側がパッドの肌着
側の面と接触させられる。典型的にはシリコンを塗布さ
れた剥離紙は剥離エネルギーが低いので、接着剤はパッ
ドの肌着側の面に優先的に着くであろう。更に、接着剤
は、使用中にパッドの肌着側の面に優先的に着くように
選択され、従ってパッドが装着者の下着から外されたと
きは、接着剤は装着者の衣服には残らないであろう。か
かる製品及び方法はバリンスの米国特許第４３３５０２
６号、コープマンの米国特許第４５５４１９１号、プロ
クター・アンド・ギャンブルに譲渡された米国特許第４
９４６５２７号、キンバリー・クラークに譲渡された米
国特許第４６１５６９６号により示される。これら特許
の総てはここに参照文献として取り入れられる。
【００１７】しかし、もし肌着側の面に１個又は複数個
の凹みが含まれたならば、接着剤は、剥離紙からパッド
に転写されたときに、この凹みを横切って隙間を跨ぎ、
凹みを定めている表面とは接触しないであろう。その結
果、この凹み部分の接着剤は、パッドから剥離紙を剥が
すとき取り去られるか、或いは更にありそうなことであ
るが、使用後にパッドを外すときに装着者の衣服に優先
的に付着するであろう。本発明はこの問題を解決する。
【００１８】更に、吸収パッドの層を一緒に融合する段
階において、肌着側の層（遮断層）に小さな穴（ピンホ
ール）ができることが普通であることが見いだされた。
このため、流体がパッドの縁に向かって流れないように
する流体遮断体の形成の際に、ｚ方向に遮断体を通る失
敗の機会が増大する。従って、遮断層にピンホールがで
きた場合に、流体がこの穴を通って流れないようにする
方法を見いだすことが必要である。本発明はこの問題を
解決する。
【００１９】
【課題を解決するための手段】本発明の使捨て式の保護
体は、身体接触面、吸収層、液体遮断部、パッドを肌着
に取り付けるための接着剤層、及び使用前における接着
剤層の保護のための剥離紙を備えた薄くて高度の吸収性
のパッドを備える。このパッドは、更に周囲又はその近
く及びパッドの中央により近い部分に高密度にされた領
域を備え、この領域は高密度化域における個々の繊維間
の隙間空間を流体が容易には通過し得ないように総ての
パッド層を一緒に融合して作られる。高密度化域は、流
体がパッド上に導かれ又は置かれたときにパッドの縁に
流れることを防止し又は妨害するように連続して作られ
る。更に、肌着側の面には、高密度化域において、肌着
側の面がパッドの断面中心の方に湾曲する凹みがある。
【００２０】本発明は、パッドの３層の総て−身体接触
層、吸収層、及び肌着側の層−を一緒に融合させるよう
に熱と圧力とを加え、更に肌着側の層に接着剤層を展着
し、接着剤層は総ての層が一緒に融合された領域におい
て肌着側の層と接触するパッドの製造方法も含む。
【００２１】本発明は、パターンロール、アンビルロー
ル、及び転写ロールを備え吸収体製品の凹んだ領域に接
着剤を展着する装置にして；各ロールの長手方向軸が他
のロールと平行であり、アンビルロールと転写ロールの
各がパターンロールと回転組合いをさせられ、アンビル
ロールは平滑な表面を有し、パターンロールはパターン
ロールから半径方向外向きに伸びているがアンビルロー
ルとは接触しない隆起を有し、そして転写ロールはパタ
ーンロールよりも軟質な材料のものである装置も含む。

【実施例】特に図面を参照し説明すれば、図１は本発明
のパッド１０を平面図で示す。図示されたパッドは、パ
ッドの周囲の近くの外側流体遮断部１３を有し、これ
は、パッド上に置かれた流体がパッドの縁に流れること
を防ぎ又は非常に妨げるように作用する。
【００２３】図２ないし４を参照すれば、流体遮断部１
３の内部の別の流体遮断部１４と１４ａとが示される。
これら遮断部の目的は、パッドを個別吸収域１５ａと１
５ｂとに分割又は区画化すること、及び流体が流体遮断
部１３を通って移動する可能性を減少させることであ
る。その他の多くの企画を提示できるであろう。
【００２４】図５を参照すれば、パッド１０は、身体接
触面１２のあるカバー層１１を有し構成される。１実施
例においては、カバー層１１は、ステープル疎水性紡織
繊維で形成された不織布ウェブを備える。かかる繊維
は、個々の繊維の総てが樹脂被覆で実質的に被覆され、
ウェブが満たされない隙間を残して繊維の交点を一緒に
接合するように、水に不溶性のゴム状の繊維接合用樹脂
で被覆することにより一体化することができる。
【００２５】カバー層１１は、接合されたステープル疎
水性繊維ウェブの表面上又は一体のパッド構造内の結合
繊維の高位ウェブの最外側表面を被覆している多孔性の
実質的に平らな可撓性ポリマーより作ることができる。
かかる面は重合体被覆の平坦度のため非常に柔らかくか
つ滑らかな触感を有し、接触することが心地よい。
【００２６】しかし、カバー層１１の繊維は、好ましく
は熱可塑繊維、又はより好ましくは異なった融点を有す
る２種又はそれ以上の熱可塑性繊維の混合物である。少
なくも一つの種類の繊維に熔融に十分な熱及び圧力を加
えると、残りの熔融していない繊維は多孔性ウェブに熱
的に接合され又は一緒に融合される。この処理段階は、
ここに参考文献として組み入れられたローリツェンの米
国特許第４６２２０８９号に、より完全に説明される。
【００２７】カバー層１１を作るに満足であることが見
いだされた繊維状材料は、識別可能な熔融温度を有する
２種の熱可塑性繊維の混合物であることが見いだされ
た。２成分繊維、熱可塑性繊維の内部コアを有する複数
種の繊維が処理及び性能の見地から作業に最良の繊維で
あることが見いだされた。この場合、この内部コアは、
例えばコアよりかなり低温の熔融温度を有する熱可塑
物、例えばポリエチレンの外側シールで囲まれた熱可塑
性繊維、例えばポリエステルである。かかる繊維状材料
は、ローリツェンの米国特許第４６２２０８９号により
示される。カバー層１１用の材料はパルプのフラッフと
熱可塑性繊維、例えばポリプロピレンと一緒に形成され
た混合物となし得ることも考えられる。
【００２８】デニールで約１.０から約４.０の範囲のカ
バー層１１用繊維状材料の使用が許容されることが見い
だされた。快適性の見地からの優秀な性能は、デニール
で約１.５から約３.５、又は最も好ましくはデニールで
約１.５から約２.０で得られると信じられる。現在で
は、１.８デニールで商業化が開始しようとしている。
【００２９】カバー層１１用の繊維の長さは、約１２.
７mm（約０.５インチ）から約６３.５mm（約２.５イン
チ）の範囲ならば満足であることが見いだされた。
【００３０】得られたウェブは、薄く、柔軟で、弾力が
あり、多孔性でかつ織物状の布であり、その頂面は柔ら
かでかつ平滑で快い触感の品質である。このウェブは、
本発明のパッド１０の製造工程内に直接かつ連続的に供
給することができる。或いは、これは後の使用のために
集めて蓄積することができる。
【００３１】カバー層１１の直下で、この層に、熱可塑
性繊維の混合物を含んだ吸収層１６が熱接合される。吸
収層１６の熱可塑性繊維は異なった融点を有する２種又
はそれ以上の熱可塑性繊維の混合物であることが好まし
い。２成分繊維、熱可塑性繊維の内部コアを有する複数
種の繊維が、処理及び性能の見地より作業に最適の繊維
であることが見いだされた。この内部コアは、例えばコ
アよりかなり低温の熔融温度を有する熱可塑物、例えば
ポリエチレンの外側シールで囲まれた熱可塑性繊維、例
えばポリエステルである。これの上側のカバー層１１と
同様に、少なくも１種類の繊維を熔融するに十分な熱と
圧力とを加えたとき、残りの熔融されない繊維は多孔質
ウェブに一緒に熱接合され又は融合されるであろう。
【００３２】熱可塑性繊維を有するセルローズパルプ繊
維を吸収層１６内に含むことも好ましい。熱可塑性繊維
は、更なる処理なしに本質的に疎水性であるので、吸収
層１６は、何かの疎水性材料なしではカバー層１１から
流体を効果的に引き去ることはできないであろう。流体
を吸収するために十分なパルプを持つことが重要であ
る。しかし、以下完全に説明されるように、十分な量の
熱可塑性繊維を有し、層が（以下、より十分に説明され
るであろうように）熱接合されたときに、ウェブの隙間
の空虚な空間を満たすように熱可塑物を十分に熔融する
こともまた重要である。効果的な吸収のためのパルプの
受入れ可能量は重量で約２０％から約９５％である。反
対に、熱可塑性繊維の受入れ可能量は重量で約５％から
約８０％である。パルプの好ましい量は重量で約２０％
から約６０％の範囲である（熱可塑性繊維は約４０％か
ら約８０％の範囲である）。パルプのより好ましい量は
重量で約２０％から約４０％である（熱可塑性繊維は約
６０％から約８０％の範囲である）。
【００３３】熱可塑性物とパルプとの比率を特徴付ける
別の方法は、カバー層１１と吸収層１６との双方のパル
プと熱可塑性繊維との総量で見ることである。これらは
熱接合され、かつ（以下、より完全に説明されるであろ
うように）各層の熱可塑性繊維の幾分かを熔融して互い
に融合させることが望ましいので、カバー層１１を吸収
層１６と一緒に接合したとき、重量で少なくも３５％の
熱可塑性繊維があることが好ましい。両層の熱可塑性繊
維が重量で少なくも約６０％あることが更に好ましい。
【００３４】吸収層１６の形成の際に、材料は、これを
本発明のパッド１０の製造過程内に直接的かつ連続的に
供給することができ、又は収集し後で使用することがで
きる。カバー層１１と吸収層１６との間の接合は、層を
互いに接触させこれらに圧力と熱とを加えることにより
達成される。これは、更に、カバー層１１と吸収層１６
との更なる熔融を生じ、冷却したときに層の相互の熱接
合が得られる。この方法は後で更に詳細に説明される。
【００３５】保護体の吸収部分は、言うまでもなく、頂
部表面として多孔質の平らな可撓性のポリマー被覆を有
し一体に形成されたパッド部材の中央部分となし得るこ
とが認められるであろう。本発明の別の実施例において
は、保護体の吸収部分は、流体容量の増加又はパッド体
積の最小化のために、種々の水分固定材料、例えば超吸
収剤又はピートモスを利用できる。かかる材料は、ここ
に参照文献として組み込まれたワイ・レベスケの米国特
許第４５０７１２２号、エス・ダビの米国特許第４４９
４９６３号、アイ・エス・ネスの米国特許第４８８０４

号に示される。
【００３６】吸収層１６の製造に満足であると見いださ
れた融合可能な繊維材料は、カバー層１１に使用された
ものと同じ繊維材料である。ポリエステル／ポリエチレ
ンの２成分繊維が製造及び性能の見地より作業に最良の
繊維であることが見いだされた。カバー層１１に約１.
８デニールの繊維を使用することにより快適度が改良さ
れることが見いだされたが、吸収層１６にこのデニール
の繊維を使用することは必要ない。約１.０から約４.０
の範囲の適宜デニールで満足であるが、費用の点から約
２.５から約３.５のデニール、又はより好ましくは約
３.０デニールが許容製造費用に対して良好な性能を産
むであろう。
【００３７】吸収層１６の繊維の長さは、約１２.７mm
（約１インチ）から約６３.５mm（約２.５インチ）の範
囲にあれば満足であることが見いだされた。
【００３８】カバー層１１と吸収層１６との間の主要な
差異は、吸収層１６におけるパルプの存在及びカバー層
１１におけるより細いデニールの繊維の可能性であるこ
とが明瞭である。しかし、各層についてのデニール範囲
が重なっているので、カバー層１１と吸収層１６の双方
に同一デニールの繊維を使用することが可能でありかつ
許容できる。かかる場合には、分離しかつ異なった２層
とすることは必ずしも必要ではない。代わりに、身体接
触面と遮断層１７に面する面とを有する一つの層を使用
するパッドを構成することが可能である（これは後で更
に詳細に説明される）。しかし、このような場合には、
身体接触面にはパルプを無くすべきことが記憶すべき重
要なことである。身体接触面の主な機能の一つは、流体
が表面に留まらないで下の吸収材料に流れるように本質
的に疎水性の面を提供することである。このため、（こ
れまでの２層の代わりに）１層を持ったパッドを作ると
きは、ウェブは少なくも第１のミルに対しては１００％
熱可塑性繊維で置くべきである。その後、上述のパルプ
と熱可塑性繊維との混合物を使用すべきである。
【００３９】柔らかで曲げ易い流体不透性の層の形式の
遮断層１７が吸収層１６の直下でこれに熱接合される。
かかる層は蒸気透過性又は蒸気不透性のいずれともする
ことができ、これは公知である。かかる遮断体は、通常
は、ポリエチレン及び低融点ＥＶＡのような２種の熱可
塑性材料の混合物である。アール・コープマンの米国特
許第４７３１０６６号はかかる遮断層を適切に示し、か
つここに参照文献として組み込まれる。
【００４０】典型的には、遮断層１７は購入され、ロー
ルからパッド１０の製造過程内に供給される。遮断層１
７は、吸収層１６のカバー層１１とは反対側の面に接触
させられる。遮断層１７と吸収層１６との接合は、これ
らに圧力と熱とを加えることにより達成される。これに
より、吸収層１６の繊維の更なる熔融が生じ、冷却され
たとき層は互いに熱接合された状態になる。後でより完
全に説明されるこの接合段階は、カバー層１１と吸収層
１６との間の接合段階と同時に行うことができる。
【００４１】吸収層１６及び遮断部１７が一緒に置かれ
る前にどちらかの層に接着剤被覆が行われていると、両
者間の改良された接触が得られる。この接着剤は、層を
互いに接合するために圧力と熱とが加えられる領域には
ある必要はない。しかし、接合の生じない領域において
は、接着剤は層間の接触を改良するであろう。かかる接
着剤は本技術においてよく知られている。その例は、参
照文献としてここに組み入れられた米国特許第４５２６
５７７号である。
【００４２】吸収層１６と遮断層１７との間の面積の少
なくも２０％への接着剤の塗布により適切な接合が得ら
れるであろう。好ましくは、この面積の少なくも５０％
に接着剤を塗布すべきである。いずれにせよ、接着剤の
面積の各増加ごとに接触を改良し、又は多分少なくも層
間の分離を減らすであろう点に注意すべきである。
【００４３】接着剤層１８は、典型的には、感圧接着剤
を含み、これは本技術において知られかつここに参照文
献として組み入れられたアール・コープマンの米国特許
第４５５４１９１号及びアイ・ジェー・ビリンスの米国
特許第４３３５０２６号において適切に示される。接着
剤層１８は、使用中、装着者の下ばきに適正に位置決め
されたパッドを保持する。この層は遮断層１７に塗布さ
れ、かつ包装のため、使用の直前に容易に取り外せる剥
離紙１９で覆われる。
【００４４】接着剤層１８の接着剤がその受ける条件下
及びこれが接触するであろう織物上で有効に機能するた
めには、接着剤自体の選択が重要であるばかりか、複雑
な接着剤システムもまた、面の付着力、追従性、被覆重
量、裏打ち付着力及び裏打ち強度が釣り合うようにしな
ければならない。これが取り付けられた肌着から奇麗に
剥がせるように、肌着に対する付着力は接着剤自体の凝
集力、その裏打ち材料への接着強度、及び合成構造の固
有強度より弱くなければならない。
【００４５】接着剤層１８は、水蒸気に対して透過性又
は不透性で、かつ普通に下着に作られる織物にしっかり
と取り付けることができ、更に織物の被害又はその上に
目立つような接着剤のかすを残すことなくこれから容易
に剥がし得る接着剤を備えることが好ましい。
【００４６】接着剤層１８は、通常は転写塗布法により
塗布される。この場合、接着剤層１８はまず剥離紙１９
に塗布され、次いで接着剤／剥離紙の組合せが裏打ち層
１７に着けられる。剥離紙１９は本技術において公知で
あり、通常はシリコン樹脂で被覆される。シリコン被覆
は例えば裏打ち層１７の材料と比較して比較的低い剥離
エネルギーを有するためである。
【００４７】剥離紙１９は裏打ち層１７より低い剥離エ
ネルギーを有するので、接着剤層１８は、剥離紙１９が
剥がされたときに優先的に裏打ち層１７上に付着するで
あろう。これが事実であるためには、裏打ち層１７に接
着剤層１８を転写するときに、置かれた接着剤を裏打ち
層１７と接触させなければならない点に気を付けること
が重要である。裏打ち層１７は一般に平らであるため、
これは通常は問題でない。しかし、流体遮断部１３及び
１４が形成されたときは、裏打ち層１７の肌着側の面２
１に凹み２０ができる。普通の転写塗布法を使用する
と、接着剤層１８は、図７に見られるように凹みの面２
２と接触しない。こうして、接着剤層１８は凹み２０を
跨ぐであろう。
【００４８】接着剤層１８は、凹み２０を跨ぐため、こ
れが剥がされるとき剥離紙１９に付着して取れてしまう
であろう。或いは、接着剤に十分な形状保持性がある
と、接着剤はパッドが外されたとき装着者の衣服と接触
しこの上に残るであろう。従って、接着剤層１８に対し
ては、これの発生を防止するために、凹み２０のある裏
打ち層１７の輪郭に追随することが重要である。
【００４９】別の重要な点は、流体遮断部１３と１４と
が形成されるときに、裏打ち層１７に小さな穴ができる
ことである。凹み２２と接触するように接着剤層１８を
展着させることにより、接着剤はこれらの穴を効果的に
塞ぎ裏打ち層１７の遮断の完全性をそのままに保つであ

【００５０】パッド１０の構成部品は、図７に示された
図式図に従って組み立てられヒートシール法により一体
化される。次いで、パッド１０が外側流体遮断体１３に
沿った形状及び寸法に切り揃えられる。
【００５１】この方法は、カバー層１１と吸収層１７と
を一緒に置くことから開始される。この二つの層は、選
択的にカバー層１１にパターンを印刷するパターン型押
し装置（図示せず）内に送り込まれる。次いで、カバー
層／吸収層の組合せに裏打ち層１７が供給される。しっ
かりと接触させるために、接着剤が裏打ち層１７の適用
の直前に塗布される（図示せず）。接着剤が塗布される
と、裏打ち層１７と吸収層１６との間で確実に適切な接
触をするように、この３層は僅かな圧力を受ける。
【００５２】次いで、パッド材料は、シーリングステー
ション２３内に供給されここで圧力と熱とが加えられ
る。圧力と熱とは、温度がカバー層１１、吸収層１６及
び遮断層１７の熱可塑性材料のうちの低い方の融点を越
すがこの３層のうちの残りの層の熱可塑性材料の融点は
越さないように制御される。
【００５３】シーリングステーション２３は、パターン
ロール２４、アンビルロール２５及び転写ロール２６よ
り構成される。パターンロール２４は、パッド材料がパ
ターンロール２４とアンビルロール２５との間を通過す
るときにこの材料上に流体遮断部１３と１４のパターン
を与える突起すた表面を有する円柱状のロールである。
パッド材料は、パターンロール２４とアンビルロール２
５との間のロール間隙間から出た後、パターンロール２
４と接触したままであり、これが流体遮断部１３及び１
４の熱に暴露される時間を長くする利点を与える。
【００５４】温度と圧力とを高することは層を一緒に融
合させるには有利であるが、温度及び／又は圧力が高す
ぎると、パッド構造に余りにも多くのピンホールが発生
し、これが失敗の原因となる。例えば、毎分４００−６
００個のパッドを製造する場合は、パターンロール２４
の温度を約３２.２℃（約９０゜Ｆ）から約２０４.４℃
（約４００゜Ｆ）、好ましくは約３７.８℃（約１００゜
Ｆ）から約１２１.１℃（約２５０゜Ｆ）の範囲内に保つ
ことが重要であり、また、アンビルロール２５の温度
は、周囲温度から約９３.３℃（約２００゜Ｆ）、好まし
くは約３２.２℃（約９０゜Ｆ）から約６５.６℃（約１
５０゜Ｆ）の範囲内に保つことが重要である。更に、２
個の直径１５２.４mm（６インチ）の圧力円筒を有する
装置においては、この圧力を約０.０７kg/cm2（約１ps
i）から約４２.１９kg/cm2（約６００psi）の範囲内、
好ましくは約０.７０kg/cm2（約１０psi）から約１０.
５５kg/cm2（約１５０psi）の範囲内に保つことが重要
である。より好ましくは、圧力は約０.７０kg/cm2（約
１０psi）から約５.６３kg/cm2（約８０psi）の範囲内
に保つべきである。
【００５５】関連した別の変数は、パターンロール２４
とアンビルロール２５との間の隙間の距離である。隙間
距離が小さくなるとパッドの層間の融合が改善される。
しかし、同時にピンホール発生の可能性もまた増大す
る。従って、ポリエステル／ポリエチレンの２成分繊維
の場合は、この隙間距離を約５.０８mm（約０.２イン
チ）以下に保つことが重要である。パンティ保護体とし
て使用される比較的薄いパッドについては、この隙間距
離は、０と０.１２７mm（０.００５インチ）との間であ
ることが好ましい。しかし、隙間距離変数は得られたパ
ッド１０の厚さ及びパッド１０を作る種々の層の厚さに
依存するであろうことを念頭におくべきである。
【００５６】次に、接着剤層１８と剥離紙１９との組合
せ体が転写ロール２６に掛けられる。転写ロール２６は
多くの理由でパターンロール２４と回転組合いをする。
パッド材料がパターンロール２４の高くなった面又は隆
起部に対して滑り又は不一致となることのないように保
つことが重要である。更に、転写ロールはパッド材料に
僅かの圧力を与えることができ、これにより、形成され
たばかりの凹み２０に流体遮断部１３と１４の接着剤層
１８を接触させる。そこで、剥離紙１８が一般に弾性的
でなくかつ凹み２０の輪郭に追随しない場合でも、接着
剤層１８はこの輪郭に追随するであろう。転写ロール２
６は、硬度が約２０から約７０、より好ましくは約３５
から約５５の、好ましくは弾性体、より好ましくはシリ
コンである。転写ロール２６により生じた圧力は、一般
に約０から約１４.０６kg/cm2（約２００psi），より好
ましくは約３.５２kg/cm2（約５０psi）から約１０.５
５kg/cm（約１５０psi）の範囲である。より高い圧力を
使用することができるが、これは転写ロール２６を疲労
させ早期摩耗を起こさせるであろう。
【００５７】接着剤層１８と剥離紙１９とを着けた後
で、パッド材料を更にカレンダー２８に掛けることが必
要である。転写ロール２６の唯一の実際の接触はパター
ンロール２４の隆起したパターンと関連するので、接着
剤層１８は流体遮断部１３及び１４においてのみ裏打ち
層１７としっかり接触することができる。更なるカレン
ダー段階は、その他の点における接着剤層１８と裏打ち
層１７との間の適切な接触を確実なものとするであろ
う。接触を強制するに要する圧力はパッドのが他の部分
を押し潰してその吸収性能を低下させるので、流体保護
部１３と１４の位置における接着剤層１８と裏打ち層１
７との間の接触を強制するためにカレンダー２８を使用
しようとすることは好ましくないと指摘することが重要
である。
【００５８】パッド材料はカレンダー２８を出た後、切
断ステーション（図示せず）に送り込まれる。その後
で、形からはみ出した余分の材料が切り取られ、最終の
パッド１０が包装される。
【００５９】パッド１０は、遮断部内の融合材料を実際
に少しも取り去る事なくできるだけ外側流体遮断部１３
に接近して切り揃えられることに注意すべきである。し
かし、外側の周囲に沿っていくらかの未融合材料の部分
を残すことが好ましい。この未融合材料は熔融した流体
遮断部より密度が小さくかつ触って相当に柔らかであ
る。
【００６０】本発明の主な特徴および態様は次の通りで
ある。
【００６１】１．身体接触面を有する吸収層；接着剤
層；及び吸収層と接着剤層との間の流体不透性の肌着側
裏打ち層を備え；吸収層は熱可塑性繊維で構成され；吸
収層と裏打ち層とは互いに熱接合され；肌着側裏打ち層
は肌着側の面を有しこの面は凹まされた面により定めら
れた凹みを有し；そして接着剤層は凹まされた面と接触
している吸収パッド。
【００６２】２．熱可塑性繊維で構成されたカバーを更
に備えた上記１の吸収パッド。
【００６３】３．熱可塑性繊維が２成分繊維である上記
１の吸収パッド。
【００６４】４．吸収層と裏打ち層とが、周囲に近くな
い場所で互いに熱接合される上記１の吸収パッド。
【００６５】５．吸収体が更にパルプフラッフより構成
される上記１の吸収パッド。
【００６６】６．１個又は複数個の凹みを含んだ少なく
も一つの面を有する基層上に接着剤の層を塗布する方法
であって、各凹みが基層の表面と同じ平面にない底面を
有する方法にして、 ａ．転写層に接着剤の層を塗布し； ｂ．接着剤層を凹みを含んだ基層面と接触させ；そして ｃ．接着剤層が凹みの底面と接触するように強制するに
十分な圧力を加える諸段階を含んだ方法。
【００６７】７．基層のカレンダー作業段階を更に含ん
だ上記６の方法。
【００６８】８．パターンロールが約７２.２℃（約９
０゜Ｆ）から約２０４.４℃（約４００゜Ｆ）の温度で運
転される上記６の方法。
【００６９】９．加えられる圧力が、０.０７kg/cm
2（１psi）から４２.１９kg/cm2（６００psi）を与えて
いる２個の直径１５２.４cm（６インチ）の圧力円筒に
より加えられるのもに等しい上記８の方法。
【００７０】１０．凹みがパターンに配列され、凹みの
パターンに適合しかつ一致するパターンに配列された１
個又はそれ以上の隆起により圧力が加えられる上記６の
方法。 １１．基層が凹みを含んだ面と反対側に第２の面を有し
この第２の面上に圧力が加えられる上記６の方法。
【００７１】１２．接着剤層を凹みの底面と接触させる
に十分な圧力を基層の面に加える段階を更に含んだ上記
６の方法。
【００７２】１３．パターンロール、アンビルロール、
及び転写ロールを備えた吸収体製品に接着剤の層を塗布
する装置にして；パターンロールはこれから半径方向に
伸びている隆起を有し；パターンロール、アンビルロー
ル、及び転写ロールの各はそれぞれの回転中心となる長
手方向中心線を有し；パターンロールの長手方向中心
線、アンビルロールの長手方向中心線、及び転写ロール
の長手方向中心線が互いに平行であり；パターンロール
はアンビルロールと反対の方向に回転し；パターンロー
ルは転写ロールと反対の方向に回転し；パターンロール
はアンビルロールから間隔を空けられ；そして転写ロー
ルはパターンロールの隆起と回転係合している装置。
【００７３】１４．カレンダーを更に備えた上記１３の
装置。
【００７４】１５．パターンロールが、更に、パターン
ロールから半径方向に伸びかつアンビルロールと回転係
合している圧迫帯域を備える上記１４の装置。
【００７５】１６．パターンロールの隆起がアンビルロ
ールと接触していない上記１４の装置。

Claims (4)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】 身体接触面を有する吸収層；接着剤層；
    及び吸収層と接着剤層との間の流体不透性の肌着側裏打
    ち層を備え；吸収層は熱可塑性繊維で構成され；吸収層
    と裏打ち層とは互いに熱接合され；肌着側裏打ち層は肌
    着側の面を有しこの面は凹まされた面により定められた
    凹みを有し；そして接着剤層は凹まされた面と接触して
    いることを特徴とする吸収パッド。
  2. 【請求項２】 １個又は複数個の凹みを含んだ少なくも
    一つの面を有する基層上に接着剤の層を塗布する方法で
    あって、各凹みが基層の表面と同じ平面にない底面を有
    する方法にして、 ａ．転写層に接着剤の層を塗布し； ｂ．接着剤層を凹みを含んだ基層面と接触させ；そして ｃ．接着剤層が凹みの底面と接触するように強制するに
    十分な圧力を加える諸段階を含むことを特徴とする方
    法。
  3. 【請求項３】 パターンロール、アンビルロール、及び
    転写ロールを備えた吸収体製品に接着剤の層を塗布する
    装置にして；パターンロールはこれから半径方向に伸び
    ている隆起を有し；パターンロール、アンビルロール、
    及び転写ロールの各はそれぞれの回転中心となる長手方
    向中心線を有し；パターンロールの長手方向中心線、ア
    ンビルロールの長手方向中心線、及び転写ロールの長手
    方向中心線が互いに平行であり；パターンロールはアン
    ビルロールと反対の方向に回転し；パターンロールは転
    写ロールと反対の方向に回転し；パターンロールはアン
    ビルロールから間隔を空けられ；そして転写ロールはパ
    ターンロールの隆起と回転係合していることを特徴とす
    る装置。
  4. 【請求項４】 請求項２の方法により製造された吸収体
    製品。
