Abstract

(57)【要約】 【目的】 コンピユータ・システムのユーザの指紋を検
閲することにより、コンピユータ・システム中の秘密情
報の無断使用を保護する方法及び装置を与える。 【構成】 ユーザが選択するタツチ感知フイールドがコ
ンピユータ・デイスプレイ５０に与えられる。ユーザの
指先でそのフイールド５４、５６の１つを選択すると、
ユーザの指紋は分析され、権限を与えられた人の指紋の
リストと比較される。その指紋が検閲をパスすると、ユ
ーザは所望のプログラムへのアクセスを与えられる。こ
のアクセスは、複数のパスワードを用いることなく情報
の複数のレベルに与えることができる。

【発明の詳細な説明】
【０００１】
【産業上の利用分野】本発明は、グラフイツク表示を必
要とするユーザ・インターフエースに係り、より詳細に
言えば、デスクトツプ型装置の図形的なオブジエクトを
操作し、関連するデータにアクセスするために、タツチ
・スクリーンにより指紋を認識するユーザ・インターフ
エースに関する。
【０００２】
【従来の技術】最近のコンピユータ・システムは、グラ
フイカル・ユーザ・インターフエースを使用することに
よつて、ユーザにとつて一層親しみ易いものとなつた。
このようなユーザ・インターフエースは、コンピユータ
中のプログラムを使用するユーザに対して一層感覚的な
操作方法を与える。コンピユータのオペレータは、例え
ば、プログラムのコマンドを打鍵してプログラムを呼び
出すのではなく、図形的なオブジエクトの選択、つま
り、アイコンを選択することによつてプログラムを呼び
出す。従つて、コンピユータのオペレータは、通常、感
覚的でなく、しかも、難解なプログラム・コマンドを記
憶する必要がない。
【０００３】コンピユータが益々広く普及したことに伴
つて、重要情報、または、機密情報を含むより多くの情
報がコンピユータに格納されることになつた。データを
アクセスするためにコンピユータ・システムに「潜入」
する能力を備えた多くの人達がいることは、既に広く知
られている。権限のない人がコンピユータ中のデータを
獲得するのを阻止するために種々の方法がある。このよ
うな目的に対して、通常、パスワードが使用されてい
る。オペレータは、例えば、データへのアクセスが与え
られる前に、所定のコード・ワード、または、一連の打
鍵操作による打鍵が要求される。若し、パスワードが承
認されたならば、次に、オペレータは、所望のようにデ
ータを獲得でき、あるいは、プログラムを実行すること
ができる。しかし不幸なことには、上述したように、コ
ード・ワード、または、パスワードを破る能力を備え
た、コンピユータ・システムに対して無法に介入できる
多くの人達がいる。
【０００４】パスワードの使用に加えて、入力について
権限を与える他の技術は、識別カードの使用に関する米
国特許第４５９９５０９号と、暗号の使用に関する米国
特許第４６９１３３５号とに開示されている。
【０００５】複数の人が単一の入力装置にアクセスする
場合、権限のないアクセスが行なわれる可能性がある。
例えば、オペレータは、通常、始業時間において端末装
置を始動して、適当なパスワードでオペレータ自身の署
名を入力する。従つて、そのオペレータに許容されてい
るすべてのプログラムに対して、その端末装置を使用す
る人によるアクセスが許容されるであろう。若し、オペ
レータが端末装置に在席していなければ、アクセスの権
限を持つ人でも、アクセスの権限を持たない人でも、そ
の端末装置からデータを獲得することができる。従つ
て、アクセスの権限を与えられた人だけを対象として、
コンピユータ・システムが個々のフアイル、またはプロ
グラムへのアクセスを付与する方法及び装置が必要であ
る。
【０００６】ユーザに対してより親しみ易いシステムを
作る要求の下において、タツチ・スクリーンの技術は、
タツチ・スクリーン面の図形的なオブジエクト上にユー
ザの指を直接タツチする（押し付ける）ことによつてオ
ブジエクトの直接的な選択を可能にする。加えて、参照
用の指紋に対して、実際の指の指紋を比較することので
きる公知の装置がある。従つて、指紋認識装置は存在す
るけれども、タツチ・スクリーン上で指紋を認識するこ
とによつて、コンピユータ・システム及びその中の個々
のプログラムにアクセス可能な方法及び装置は現在知ら
れていない。
【０００７】
【発明が解決しようとする課題】本発明は、コンピユー
タ・システムへのアクセスに関する従来技術の問題を解
決した新規なアクセス方法及び装置を与える。本発明
は、オペレータに事前に権限を与えるということを基礎
にして、複数のオペレータによつて、コンピユータ・シ
ステムが単一の入力装置を介して個々のフアイル、また
は個々のプログラムへのアクセスを与える技術に関す
る。
【０００８】
【課題を解決するための手段】本発明の特徴に従つて、
コンピユータ・システムへのアクセスを獲得する方法が
与えられる。認識装置が本発明のコンピユータ・システ
ムにリンクされる。本発明に従つたコンピユータ・シス
テムへのアクセスは、ユーザにより認識装置へ与えられ
た受容可能な応答に基づいて行なわれる。
【０００９】本発明の１つの実施例は、認識装置は指紋
を認識する装置である。図形的なオブジエクトを介して
画面に直接にタツチすることによつて、ユーザは、権限
を与えられた人の指紋のフアイルと一致した場合に限つ
て、識別されたプログラムへのアクセスが与えられる。
若し、一致がなければ、そのプログラムへのアクセスは
否定される。従つて、単一の端末装置の複数のユーザ
は、該ユーザがアクセスの権限を与えられたプログラム
だけから情報を得ることができる。

【作用】単一の端末装置の複数のユーザがアクセスの権
限を与えられたプログラムだけからの情報を得ることが
本発明の技術的な利点である。更に、若し、権限を与え
られているならば、複数個のパスワードを用いることな
く、情報の複数のレベルにアクセスを与えることができ
るのが本発明の他の技術的な利点である。

【実施例】図１を参照すると、本発明を実施するために
使用されるデータ処理システム８の模式図が示されてい
る。図１から理解できるように、データ処理システム８
は、ローカル・エリア・ネツトワーク（ＬＡＮ）１０及
び３２のような複数個のネツトワークを含むことがで
き、各ネツトワークは、複数個の独立したコンピユータ
１２及び３０を含むことが望ましい。勿論、ホスト・コ
ンピユータに接続された複数個のインテリジエント・ワ
ークステーシヨン（ＩＷＳ）を各ネツトワークに対して
使用することができるのはこの道の専門家であれば容易
に理解できるであろう。このようなデータ処理システム
において通常用いられているように、これらの独立した
各コンピユータはストレージ装置１４、及び／又はプリ
ンタあるいは出力装置１６に接続することができる。
【００１２】また、データ処理システム８は、通信リン
ク２２によつてＬＡＮ１０に接続されるのが望ましいメ
ーンフレーム・コンピユータ１８のような複数個のメー
ンフレーム・コンピユータを含むことができる。また、
メーンフレーム・コンピユータ１８は、ＬＡＮ１０のた
めの遠隔地のストレージ装置として用いられるストレー
ジ装置２０にも接続されている。同様に、ＬＡＮ１０は
通信リンク２４を介したサブシステムの制御装置／通信
コントローラ２６及び通信リンク３４を経てゲートウエ
イ・サーバ２８に接続されている。ゲートウエイ・サー
バ２８はＬＡＮ３２とＬＡＮ１０とをリンクするのに使
用する独立したコンピユータ、または、ＩＷＳであるの
が望ましい。
【００１３】ＬＡＮ３２及びＬＡＮ１０に関して、複数
個の文書またはリソース・オブジエクトは、ストレージ
装置２０中に保管され、そして、保管されたリソース・
オブジエクトのためのリソース・マネージヤまたはライ
ブラリ・サービスとしてのメーンフレーム・コンピユー
タ１８によつて制御される。勿論、メーンフレーム・コ
ンピユータ１８はＬＡＮ１０から物理的に遠く離れた距
離に設置することができることや、同じように、ＬＡＮ
１０はＬＡＮ３２から遠く離れた距離に位置付けること
ができることは当業者であれば容易に理解できるであろ
う。例えば、ＬＡＮ３２をカリフオルニア州に設置し、
ＬＡＮ１０をテキサス州に設置し、そして、メーンフレ
ーム・コンピユータ１８をニユーヨーク州に設置するこ
とができる。
【００１４】次に、図２を参照すると、独立したコンピ
ユータ１２及び３０（図１参照）に用いられているよう
な監視装置４０及びキーボード４２が示されている。監
視装置４０の画面４４上に表示されているように、参照
数字４６で示されているような要求メツセージ「パスワ
ードを入力せよ」が表示されている。監視装置４０を介
してアクセス可能なデータへのアクセスを獲得するため
に、オペレータは、キーボード４２を用いて画面４４上
に与えられた余白中に、権限を与えられたパスワードを
打鍵しなければならない。本明細書において、用語「オ
ペレータ」はコンピユータ・システムに設置されたコン
ピユータ・プログラムを使用する人を定義する用語であ
る。また、用語「ユーザ」は、「オペレータ」と同じ意
味で相互に使用される。適正なパスワードが打鍵され、
入力され、受付けられた後、オペレータは、通常、パス
ワードにより使用可能な情報にアクセスする。従つて、
若しオペレータが不正なアクセスに対する保護措置を講
じることなく監視装置４０から離席したならば、権限の
無い人がその端末装置を介してデータへのアクセスを獲
得する。
【００１５】図３を参照すると、独立したコンピユータ
１２及び３０（図１参照）で使用されているような監視
装置５０及びキーボード５２が示されている。従来の技
術とは対照的に、本発明はただ１つのコード・ワード
（または複数のレベルのコード・ワード）を入力するこ
とのみによつては監視装置５０を通して使用可能なすべ
てのデータへアクセスを与えない。監視装置５０及びキ
ーボード５２により動作されるコンピユータ・システム
が活性化された後、タツチ・スクリーンのフイールド
（これは、文章または図形を含む）がオペレータに表示
される。例えば、タツチ・スクリーンのフイールド５４
は親展（confidential）フアイルへのアクセス用に与え
られ、タツチ・スクリーンのフイールド５６は秘密(sec
ret)フアイルへのアクセス用に与えられ、タツチ・スク
リーンのフイールド５８は非秘密(unclassified)フアイ
ルへのアクセス用に与えられている。加えて、タツチ・
スクリーンのフイールド６０、６２、６４、６６及び６
８は夫々プログラムまたはデータＡ、Ｂ、Ｃ、Ｄ及びＥ
へのアクセス用として与えられている。タツチ・スクリ
ーンのフイールド５４、５６、５８、６０、６２、６
４、６６または６８の内の１つによつて表示された任意
のデータまたはプログラムへのアクセスを獲得するため
にオペレータはオペレータの指をタツチ・スクリーンの
フイールドの上にタツチしなければならない。オペレー
タの指をタツチ・スクリーンのフイールドにタツチする
と、監視装置５０に接続された指紋認識装置が、権限を
与えられたアクセスか否かのチエツクを行なう。若しそ
のオペレータがそのデータまたはプログラムへのアクセ
スに権限を与えられているならば、所定のデータまたは
プログラムがオペレータに与えられる。任意の１人のオ
ペレータに対して、監視装置５０に与えられた１つ以上
のプログラムまたはフアイルへのアクセスについて権限
を与えることができる。同様に、１つの部門あるいは集
団中のすべてのオペレータは、これらのオペレータがア
クセスの獲得を希望する特定の情報に対して権限を持つ
場合に限つて、監視装置５０を介してデータまたはプロ
グラムにアクセスすることができる。本発明を使用する
ことによつて、監視装置の前に、権限を持つオペレータ
が在席していない場合に、データへのアクセスに権限を
持たない人による端末装置の使用でデータが改ざんされ
る可能性を減少する。また、時間的な遅延を使用するこ
とによつて、権限を持つオペレータが不在の場合に特定
のプログラム（既に開始されている）に対する無権限の
アクセスを最小限にとどめることができる。
【００１６】図４を参照すると、本発明を適用するため
に必要な装置の相互関係を説明するためのブロツク図が
示されている。画面上の与えられた位置における指によ
るタツチを検出するマルチ・ポイント・タツチ感知面７
０が監視装置５０（図３参照）に与えられている。タツ
チに関するデータを転送するためにアナログ・デイジタ
ル・コンバータ７２がタツチ感知面７０とタツチ・ドラ
イバ７４との間に設けられている。タツチ・ドライバ７
４から２つの通路がアクセス・ゼネレータ７６に向けら
れている。第１の通路において、グラフイカル・ユーザ
・インターフエース７８は、どのアイコンが選択された
かを表示する。次いで、選択されたアイコンについての
情報は処理用のアプリケーシヨン８０に送られる。第２
の通路において、タツチ・ドライバ７４は指紋アナライ
ザ８２と通信する。指紋のイメージは、公知のように、
指紋の独特さを判別するのに適する形式でアナライザ８
２に通信される。オペレータがタツチ・スクリーンのフ
イールド、つまり、アイコンに触つた後、アクセス付与
装置７６中にある関連された「アイコン毎の」アクセス
・テーブルに対して、指紋のテンプレートが比較され
る。このテンプレートの比較結果が、特定された信頼性
レベルに到達しているならば、オペレーテイング・シス
テム８４及びアクセス方法８６を通して、手操作による
アクセスが許容される。次に、オペレータにより処理さ
れる適当なプログラム、またはデータが不揮発性ストレ
ージ装置８８から得られる。
【００１７】図５を参照すると、本発明の方法の実施例
の流れ図が示されている。本発明の実施例の方法は、参
照数字１００で示した開始ブロツクで始まり、ブロツク
１０２におけるユーザとの間の対話を待つ。決定ブロツ
ク１０４において、「終了プログラム」が検出されたか
否かが決定される。決定ブロツク１０４における決定が
イエスならば、本発明の処理は終了ブロツク１０６で終
了する。決定ブロツク１０４における決定がノーなら
ば、ブロツク１０８において、選択されたオブジエクト
を識別するためにオペレーテイング・システムが問い合
わされる。
【００１８】次に、決定ブロツク１１０において、オブ
ジエクト識別子は、指紋によるアクセス権限の付与を要
求するものか否かが決定される。若し、決定ブロツク１
１０の応答がノーであれば、ユーザとの対話を待つため
のブロツク１０２に戻る経路を従えたブロツク１１２に
おいて、選択されたオブジエクトに関連したプログラム
（制限なしのプログラム）が呼び出される。若し、決定
ブロツク１１０の応答がイエスであれば、ブロツク１１
４において、指紋のイメージがタツチ・ドライバから得
られる。
【００１９】決定ブロツク１１６において、指紋のイメ
ージは認識の信頼性の閾値に適合するものか否かが決定
される。若し、決定ブロツク１１６の応答がノーであれ
ば、ブロツク１０２に戻る経路を従えたブロツク１１８
において、エラーのメツセージがユーザに戻される。若
し、決定ブロツク１１６の応答がイエスであれば、決定
ブロツク１２０において、一致した指紋のイメージがア
クセス・テーブルの領域内で見出されたか否かが決定さ
れる。若し、決定ブロツク１２０の応答がノーであれ
ば、ブロツク１０２に戻る経路を従えたブロツク１１８
において、エラーのメツセージがユーザに戻される。若
し、決定ブロツク１２０の応答がイエスであれば、決定
ブロツク１２２において、アクセス・テーブルは、認識
されたユーザと選択されたオブジエクトとの適合を含ん
でいるか否かが決定される。若し、決定ブロツク１２２
の応答がノーであれば、ブロツク１０２に戻る経路を従
えたブロツク１１８において、エラーのメツセージがユ
ーザに戻される。若し、決定ブロツク１２２の応答がイ
エスであれば、決定ブロツク１２４において、アクセス
・テーブルは、このユーザに対してアプリケーシヨンの
使用制限を含んでいるか否かが決定される。若し、決定
ブロツク１２４の応答がイエスならば、ブロツク１０２
に戻る経路を従えたブロツク１２６において、選択され
たオブジエクトに関連したプログラム（制限付きのプロ
グラム）が呼び出される。若し、決定ブロツク１２４の
応答がノーであれば、ブロツク１０２に戻る経路を従え
たブロツク１１２において、選択されたオブジエクトに
関連したプログラム（制限なしのプログラム）が呼び出
される。

【発明の効果】本発明を実施した結果として、アクセス
される端末装置及びプログラムの秘密保護は著しく改善
される。端末装置を介して利用可能なデータにアクセス
するためには、ユーザはアクセスの権限を与えられてい
なければならず、そして、指紋によつて実際に証拠付け
られた権限あるユーザでなければならない。端末装置が
始動された後でも、ユーザは、権限のない者が重要な情
報へアクセスすることを心配することなく、自身の端末
装置から離席することができる。端末装置により秘密の
プログラムを実行する権限を持つているユーザが、その
端末装置から離れたとしても、権限のない他のユーザは
他のデータにアクセスすることはできない。更に、タイ
マを備えることによつて、権限のない者が端末装置に着
席せずにアクセスすることは排除される。

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】コンピユータ・システムへのアクセスを獲
    得する方法において、 コンピユータ・システムに認識装置をリンクするステツ
    プと、 ユーザにより上記認識装置へ与えられた受容可能な応答
    に基づいてコンピユータ・システムへのアクセスを許容
    するステツプとを具備するアクセスの獲得方法。
  2. 【請求項２】上記リンクするステツプは、指紋の認識装
    置を設けるステツプを含むことを特徴とする請求項１に
    記載のアクセスの獲得方法。
  3. 【請求項３】コンピユータ・システムにおけるデータの
    可用性を操作する方法において、 ユーザの指先によつて、コンピユータ・システムに表示
    されたタツチ・スクリーンのフイールドを選択するステ
    ツプと、 上記タツチ・スクリーンのフイールドに対して、アクセ
    スする権限を与えられた指紋の表示を含むアクセス・テ
    ーブルと、上記指先からの指紋とを比較するステツプ
    と、 若し上記指紋が、アクセスする権限を与えられた上記指
    紋の１つと一致したならば、アクセスを付与するステツ
    プとを具備するデータの可用性の操作方法。
  4. 【請求項４】コンピユータ・システムへのアクセスを付
    与する装置において、 コンピユータ・システムに認識装置をリンクする手段
    と、 ユーザにより上記認識装置へ与えられた受容可能な応答
    に基づいて、コンピユータ・システムへのアクセスを許
    容する手段とを具備するアクセスの付与装置。
