Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 A.産業上の利用分野 本発明は、一般にコンピュータ・ネットワークに関し、
より詳しくは上記ネットワークを管理する改良された方
法に関するものである。
B.従来の技術 コンピュータ・ネットワークの増殖につれて、同ネット
ワークを管理・制御するより効率のよい方法が必要とな
ってくる。ネットワーク・ノードの追加及び削除によっ
てネットワークの形態が絶えず変化する大型メッシュ・
ネットワークでは、特にその必要が差し迫っている。こ
うした追加及び削除は、ネットワークの拡大や縮小によ
ることも、ノードまたはリンクでの通信障害によること
もある。こうしたネットワークは動的な性質をもつの
で、変化するネットワークを調整し、その管理サービス
を行なう、動的管理手法が望ましい。
通信ネットワークは、典型的な場合、複数のノード及び
各ノードを相互接続する通信リンクから構成される。ノ
ードは、情報受入れ場所（発信元ノード）、情報受信場
所（宛先ノード）、または発信元から宛先にメッセージ
をパスする中間ノードとして働く。各ノードは、そのノ
ードと相互作用して指定されたタスクを実行できるよう
にする、複数の機能を備えている。
ノードが備えている多数の機能の１つが、「管理サービ
ス（MS）機能」である。この機能は、通常ノードのシス
テム支援制御点（SSCP）に存在する。この機能は、ネッ
トワークに関する管理情報を集めて、それを操作員に報
告する。たとえば、あるタイプの管理サービスは、ネッ
トワークのエラー状態を扱うものである。ネットワーク
のエラー状態が発生すると、管理サービスは、その状態
を知らされる。管理サービスはそのことをネットワーク
操作員に知らせ、操作員はエラー状態を矯正すべく適切
な処置を講じる。
現在、ネットワークは「定義域」に基づいて管理されて
いる。すなわち、ネットワークが別々の定義域に区分さ
れ、各SSCPがそれ自体の定義域内の資源に関して管理サ
ービスを行なう。定義域間管理は行なわれない。しか
し、よりよいネットワーク管理を実施するために定義域
間管理が望ましいことがある。たとえば、ネットワーク
が比較的多数の定義域からなり、各定義域ごとに１人ず
つ操作員が必要な場合は、定義域間管理が望ましい。
C.発明が解決しようとする課題 したがって、本発明の全般的目的は、従来よりも効率よ
くネットワークを管理する方法を提供することである。
本発明のより具体的な目的は、定義域間管理を提供する
ことである。
本発明のもう１つの目的は、ネットワークの変化を補償
するように適合された動的管理サービス機能を提供する
ことである。
Ｄ課題を解決するための手段 上記の目的は、ネットワークを、焦点（FP, Focal Poin
t）ノードと呼ばれる管理ノードと、非焦点（NFP, Non-
Focal Point）ノードと呼ばれる被管理ノードとに区分
することによって達成される。各FPノードに、そのFPノ
ードによって管理されるNFPノードをリストした「制御
面（SOC, Sphere Of Control）テーブル」を設ける。ネ
ットワーク内でノードが活動状態になると、FPノードは
それを知らされる。FPノードはそのSOCテーブルを探索
して、そのノードがリストされているかどうか調べる。
そのノードがリストされている場合、FPノードはそのNF
Pの「焦点」になりたいと要求する要求メッセージを生
成し送出する。それが受け入れられる場合、NFPノード
は肯定応答を出す。それらのNFPノードを明示的にリス
トするFPノードは、主FPと呼ばれる。その後、許可され
たタイプの管理サービスに関する情報メッセージは、PF
ノードとNFPノードの間で自由に交換される。
要求メッセージには、少なくとも（ａ）主FPになりたい
との要求、（ｂ）副FPになりたいとの要求、（ｃ）バッ
クアップFPになりたいとの要求の３種がある。バックア
ップになりたいとの要求は、FPノード相互間で使用され
る。
本発明の１つの態様では、FPノードを、他のFPノードの
SOCテーブルにリストされていないNFPノードに関する管
理サービスを行なうように指定することができる。この
FPノードは、副FPと呼ばれる。副FPは、NFPノードがそ
のSOCテーブルに含まれていないとしても、NFPノード
に、「副FPになりたいとの要求」メッセージを出す。こ
の場合、メッセージ（ｂ）が選ばれる。このメッセージ
は、主FPに割り当てられていないNFPノードに関する管
理サービスをもたらす。
E.実施例 第１図は、本発明の教示を含む通信ネットワークの構成
図である。第１図のネットワークは、ノードの数に関し
ては例示的なものにすぎず、本発明の範囲や教示をいか
なる形でも限定するものではない。このネットワーク
は、当該の通信リンクによってネットワーク・ノード
（NN）に結合された複数の端末ノード（EN）10′、1
6′、16″、18′、18″、20′を含む。端末ノードは、
パーソナル・コンピュータ、印刷装置、ワード・プロセ
ッシング・ステーション、コンピュータ等の装置を含む
ことがある。端末ノードであるコンピュータその他のデ
ータ処理装置は、通常、経路指定等のネットワーク機能
には関与しない。ネットワーク・ノードは、接続されて
いる端末ノードにネットワーク機能を与えることに関与
する。
第１図をさらに参照すると、ネットワーク・ノードに
は、焦点（FP）ノード10、14と非焦点（NFP）ノード1
2、16、18、20が含まれる。ネットワーク・ノードは、
通信リンクＡ、Ｂ、Ｃ、Ｄ、Ｅ、Ｆ、Ｇによって相互に
接続されている。後ほど説明するが、焦点ノードは非焦
点ノードに関する管理サービスを行なう。言い換えれ
ば、16、18、20、12などの非焦点ノードは、焦点ノード
10、14によって管理またはサービスされる。具体的に
は、FP10はNFP12、NFP16、NFP18を管理またはサービス
する。NFP12、NFP16、NFP18をFP10によって管理される
ことを示すため、これらのノードを破線22、24、26を結
んである。同様に、焦点14は非焦点ノード20を管理し、
破線28で結んである。すなわち、第１図で、実線で結ん
だ線は通信リンクを表し、破線で結んだ線は管理リンク
を表す。管理リンクはネットワーク内の物理回線ではな
いことに留意されたい。これは、管理されるネットワー
ク・ノードと管理するネットワーク・ノードの関係を示
すために使用されるものにすぎず、セッションとも呼ば
れる。
第２図は、焦点ノードの機能的構造を示す。焦点ノード
の構造は、周知のAPPNノードの構造と類似している。AP
PNノードの詳細は、下記の文献に記載されている。
1.「拡張プログラム間通信と拡張対等ネットワーキン
グ、ユーザーの手引き（Advanced Program to Program
Communication and Advanced Peer-to-Peer Networking
Users Guide）」、IBMAS/400システムの解説書、SC21
−9528。AS/400は、インターナショナル・ビジネス・マ
シーンズ・コーポレーションの商標である。
2.「AS/400システム用拡張対等ネットワークング（APP
N）（Advanced Peer to Peer Networking （APPN） for
AS/400 System）」、GC24−3287。これらの解説書を引
用により本明細書に合体する。
ノードの機能的構造は十分に定義されているので、本発
明を実施し理解するのに必要な構成要素についてのみ説
明する。そのため、焦点ノードは、制御点（CP）、適用
業務（APPL）プログラム、論理機構（LU）、経路制御モ
ジュール、SOCテーブル、及び複数のデータ・リンク制
御（DLC）モジュールを含んでいる。データ・リンク制
御モジュールは、焦点ノードから出された各メッセージ
が通信リンクを介して伝送すべく所望のプロトコルで整
列されるように、プロトコル機能を提供する。複数のDL
Cがあることは、FPが様々なタイプのプロトコルを支援
することを示している。経路制御モジュールは、２つの
ノード間でメッセージが交換できるように、経路指定機
能を提供する。CPは、そのノードに関する制御機能を提
供する。たとえば、セッションを制御し、経路を計算
し、ディレクトリー・サービスを行なう。最後に、LU
は、適用業務プログラムがネッワークにアクセスするた
めのインターフェースを提供する。本発明は、通常のAP
PNノードを改変し、適用業務プログラムと焦点管理サー
ビス（FPMS）テーブルを追加することによって改良され
た管理をもたらすものである。本発明はまた、APPNのト
ポロジー・データ・ベース（TDB）を利用する。これら
の各構成要素に関する詳細は後で示す。ここでは、これ
らの構成要素の追加がネットワークを管理するための改
良された方法をもたらすことを指摘するだけに留めてお
く。
第３図は、非焦点（NFP）ノードの機能的構成図であ
る。非焦点ノードは、構造上APPNノード及び第２図に示
した焦点ノードと類似している。そうであるとして、本
発明によって追加された機能についてのみ説明すること
にする。追加させた機能には、非焦点管理サービス（NF
P−MS）プログラムと呼ばれる適用業務プログラムと、F
P許可テーブルが含まれる。追加機能の詳細については
後で説明する。ここでは、追加機能によって、非焦点ノ
ードは焦点ノードに応答して、その非焦点ノードが、エ
ラー条件、警報などの管理サービス情報をその非焦点ノ
ードを制御またはサービスする焦点ノードに送るように
させるメッセージを交換するようになることを指摘する
だけに留めておく。
第４図は、焦点ノードのCPが使用するテーブルを示す。
これらのテーブルには、制御面（SOC）テーブルとFPテ
ーブルが含まれる。第４図はまた、第１図に示したネッ
トワークの例に対応するトポロジー・データ・ベース
（TDB）の例を示す。トポロジー・データ・ベース（TD
B）はネットワーク・ノードの幾何配置を識別するもの
である。それには、ノード及びノード間のリンクのリス
ト、ならびに相互接続リンクが現在活動状態か非活動状
態かを示す状況が含まれる。TDBテーブルは、焦点ノー
ドであれ非焦点ノードであれ、すべてのネットワーク・
ノードに存在することに留意されたい。このTDBテーブ
ルから、ノードは、所与のネットワーク・ノードに対す
る活動状態の接続性があるか否かを判定することができ
る。例を示すと、第４図のTDBは、第１図のネットワー
クのノード及び接続性をリストする。すなわち、このテ
ーブルを見るとわかるように、ネットワーク・ノードFP
10は、リンクＡとＣによってネットワーク・ノードNFP1
2とNFP16に接続されている。同様に、ネットワーク・ノ
ードNFP12は、通信リンクＡ、Ｂ、Ｄを介してそれぞれ
ネットワーク・ノードFP10、FP14、NFP18に結合され、
以下同様である。前述のように、非焦点ノードにも類似
のTDBテーブルが設けられている。本発明で使用できる
トポロジー・データ・ベースのテーブルの例は、米国特
許第4644532号に記載されている。その開示を引用によ
り本明細書に合体する。
第４図をさらに参照すると、FP管理サービス・モジュー
ルは、制御面（SOC）テーブルと焦点（FP）テーブルを
含む。SOCテーブルは、この焦点が管理するすべてのネ
ットワーク・ノードのリストを含んでいる。ネットワー
ク操作員は、SOCテーブルにネットワーク・ノードを動
的に追加または削除することができ、またSOCテーブル
で定義されているすべてのノードの現状況を表示するこ
とができる。SOCテーブルはまた、各ノードの状況（STA
T）も含んでいる。たとえば、NFP12は活動状態にある。
同様に、NFP20は取り消されている（REVOK）。下記の第
１表に、ネットワーク・ノードの状況をリストとそれぞ
れの状況の解釈を示す。それらについては、後節でさら
に詳しく説明する。
上記の第１表を見るとわかるように、非焦点ノードがテ
ーブル中で活動状態とマークされているとき、それを担
当する焦点はそのノードに活動焦点サービスを提供して
いる。非焦点ノードがとり得る他の状態は、第１表に記
載されており、その解釈がはっきり説明されている。し
たがって、第１表に関する説明はこれ以上行なわない。
焦点は、異なる制御面に対して異なる管理サービス機能
を担当することができる。すなわち、１つの焦点が、そ
れが提供する各管理サービス焦点機能ごとに１つずつ、
複数の制御面テーブルを維持することがあり得る。各制
御面テーブルに関連して、焦点管理サービス・モジュー
ルは、FPテーブルと呼ばれるレコードを含んでいる。こ
のテーブルは、焦点タイプ・フィールドと、管理サービ
ス（MS）キー・フィールドのリストを含んでいる。この
レコードは、焦点許可要求メッセージ中で、焦点ノード
から非焦点ノードに送られる。FPタイプ・フィールド
は、そのノードがどんなタイプの焦点かを示し、MSキー
・リストは、この焦点によって提供されるネットワーク
管理サービスを識別する。各MSキーは、特定の管理サー
ビスを識別する。本発明は、主FP、副FP、バックアップ
FPの各FPタイプを定義する。
主FPとは、管理サービス・キー（MSキー）によって識別
されるネットワーク管理カテゴリー用のFPであり、SOC
テーブルで明示的に識別されるネットワーク・ノードに
サービスを提供する。
副FPとは、主FPに指定されなかった（どの主FPのSOCテ
ーブルでも定義されていない）ネットワーク・ノード用
のFPである。
バックアップFPとは、別のFPをバックアップするFPであ
り、主FPが動作していないときにFPとして働く。
下記の第２表に、関連するFPノードが管理サービス・キ
ー・フィールドにリストされた管理サービス用の主FP及
び副FPである。FPテーブルの可能なコーディングの例を
示す。そのノードが支援する管理サービスをコード化す
るため、16進（Ｘ）表記を使用する。本発明の好ましい
実施例では、Ｘ′0000′は、FPが非焦点ノードから送ら
れた警報の受取りを支援することを識別し、Ｘ′0025′
は、FPが問題判別統計情報の受取りを支援することを識
別する。点々で示すように、他の管理サービス・キーを
キー・フィールドにリストすることができる。
後で説明するように、この焦点レコードは要求メッセー
ジと共に非焦点ノードに送られる。
第５図は、第３図の非焦点管理サービス（NFP−MS）ノ
ードに存在する焦点許可テーブルを示す。第３図のTDB
テーブルは、前述のTDBテーブルと同じであり、したが
ってこれ以上説明は繰り返さない。焦点許可テーブル
（第５図）は、焦点名、管理サービス（MS）キー、及び
焦点タイプをリストする。後で説明するように、焦点ノ
ードが要求メッセージを非焦点ノードに送出するとき、
そのメッセージは、焦点名、MSキー、及び焦点タイプを
含んでいる。
非焦点ノードは、要求中で受け取った情報を使って、FP
許可テーブルを更新する。非焦点ノードは、FP許可テー
ブル中の情報を使って、特定の管理サービス・キー（MS
キー）によって定義される特定の管理サービス・データ
を、適切なFPノードに経路指定する。FP許可テーブルは
また、管理サービスが主焦点ノードまたは副焦点ノード
によって提供される場合にその旨を非焦点ノードに通知
する。非焦点ノードは、その非FPノードが既に主FPから
特定のMSキーに対するサービスを受け取っている場合、
副FPから受け取った要求を拒絶する。
第6A図ないし第6E図は、焦点ノードと非焦点ノードの間
で交換されるメッセージのフォーマットを示す。第6A図
ないし第6C図は、一般的な管理サービス・メッセージの
フォーマットを示す。このメッセージ・フォーマットに
は、接頭辞フィールド、経路指定ヘッダ・フィールド、
CP−MSU（管理サービス・ユニット）フィールド、接尾
辞フィールドが含まれる。経路指定ヘッダ・フィールド
は、関係するステーションの原点名と宛先名を含む。例
を挙げると、原点名はメッセージが発するステーション
の名前であり、宛先名はメッセージが送られる先のノー
ドの名前である。CP−MSUフィールド（第6B図）は、さ
らに長さフィールド、一般データ・ストリーム（GDS）I
Dフィールド、管理サービス主要ベクトル・フィールド
に分割される。本発明の好ましい実施例では、GDS ID
フィールドは16進表記Ｘ′1212′を含む。この表記は、
メッセージが管理サービス・タイプのメッセージである
ことを示している。管理サービス主要ベクトル・フィー
ルドは、さらに長さフィールド、MSキー・フィールド、
データ・フィールドに分割される。前述のように、各キ
ーは、FPノードが支援する管理サービスのタイプを示
す。例を挙げると、次のようなMSキーが定義されてい
る、Ｘ′0000′は警報を示す。Ｘ′0025′は問題判別統
計を示す。Ｘ′80F0′はMS能力要求を示す。Ｘ′00F0′
はMS能力回答を示す。これらのキー例示的なものにすぎ
ず、いかなる形でも本発明を制限するわけではないこと
を理解されたい。
第6D図及び第6E図には、焦点ノードと制御面テーブル中
のノードとの間で通信を確立するのに使用される特定の
フォーマットを示す。第6D図のフォーマットは要求のフ
ォーマットであり、第6E図のフォーマットは回答のフォ
ーマットである。言い換えれば、第6D図のフォーマット
は生成されて、ネットワークに入る（すなわち活動状態
になる）非焦点ノードに送られる。「主FPになりたいと
の要求」と「幅FPになりたいとの要求」に同じフォーマ
ットが使われる。第6E図のフォーマットは生成されて、
焦点ノードに戻される。第6D図のフォーマットは、長さ
フィールド、MSキー・フィールド、長さフィールド、要
求識別子フィールド、長さフィールド、FPタイプ・フィ
ールド、及びMSキーのリストを含む。要求フィールド
は、そのメッセージが要求であることを示すコードを含
む。本発明の好ましい実施例では、そのコードはＸ′6
1′である。もちろん、本発明の範囲から逸脱せずに、
他のコードを使用することもできる。メッセージ中の各
長さ（Ｌ）フィールドは、その直後に続くバイト数を示
す。MSキー、FPタイプ、MSキーのリストなどその他のフ
ィールドについては既に説明したので、ここでは繰り返
さない。本発明の好ましい実施例では、FPタイプ・フィ
ールド（第6D図）は、次のようなコーティングを含むこ
とを指摘するだけに留めておく。すなわち、Ｘ′10′は
主FPを表し、Ｘ′20′は副FPを表し、Ｘ′30′はバック
アップFPを表す。同様に、MSキーのリストは、Ｘ′000
0′とＸ′0025′を含む。もちろん、本発明の教示から
逸脱せずに、どちらかまたは両方のフィールドに他のコ
ーディングを入れることもできる。
回答メッセージ（第6E図）は、要求メッセージと構造が
類似している。そのメッセージが回答であることを示す
ために、コートＸ′62′が使用される。回答メッセージ
はまた、結果フィールドを含む。結果フィールドは、要
求が受諾、拒絶、取消しなどされた場合にFPノードに通
知するための情報を含む。本発明の好ましい実施例で
は、Ｘ′10′は受諾、Ｘ′20′は拒絶、Ｘ′30′は取消
しである。MSキーのリストは、非焦点ノードが受諾する
サービスに対するキーのレコードである。
前述のように、非焦点ノードも焦点ノードも、本発明の
管理サービスを提供するのに必要な機能をそのノードに
実行させる、当該の適用業務プログラムを含んでいる。
これらのプログラムについて次に説明する。
第7A図及び第7B図は、焦点ノードに常駐するアルゴリズ
ムまたはプログラムの流れ図である。このプログラムを
実行すると、FPノードは、本発明の教示を実施するのに
必要な諸ステップを実行するようになる。このプログラ
ムは、開始と呼ばれる入口点を含んでいる。プログラム
は、開始からブロック30に進み、焦点ノードがトポロジ
ー・データ・ベース更新メッセージまたはセッション停
止通知または「FP許可取消し」メッセージを受け取るま
でそこで待つ。トポロジー・データ・ベース更新メッセ
ージ（TDU）は、各ネットワーク・ノードに常駐するト
ポロジー・データ・ベースを更新するため、定期的に供
給される。プログラムは次にブロック31に進み、そこで
TDUメッセージを受け取ったかどうか検査する。結果が
「イエス」（Ｙ）の場合、プログラムはブロック32に進
む。ブロック32で、焦点はトポロジー・データ・ベース
を更新し、ネットワークに新しいノードが結合されたか
どうか検査する。プログラムは次に判断ブロック34に進
む。ブロック34で、プログラムは、最近活動状態になっ
たノードがその制御面テーブルで定義されているかどう
か検査する。このテーブルで定義されていない場合は、
プログラムは判断ブロック36に進む。ブロック36で、プ
ログラムは、若干のMSキーに関してFPタイプが副FPであ
るかどうか検査する。ブロック36でＸ焦点タイプが副FP
であった場合、プログラムはブロック40に進む。ブロッ
ク40で、プログラムは「副焦点になりないとの要求」メ
ッセージを生成して送り、ブロック42に進んで、非焦点
ノードからの回答を待つ。
第7A図及び第7B図をさらに参照すると、ブロック34で、
最近活動状態のノードが制御面テーブルで定義されてい
る場合、プログラムは判断ブロック44に進む。ブロック
44で、プログラムは焦点タイプが主FPであるかどうか検
査する。主FPでない場合、プログラムはブロック30に戻
る。そうでない場合は、プログラムはブロック46に進
み、そこで「主焦点になりないとの要求」メッセージを
送出する。ブロック46から、プログラムはブロック42に
進み、そこで非焦点ノードからの応答を待ち、応答を得
ると先へ進む。次いで、プログラムは判断ブロック48に
進む。判断ブロック48で、プログラムは、非焦点ノード
がその焦点を受け入れるかどうか検査する。ノードが焦
点（FP）を受け入れるか否かは、要求に含まれる情報に
よって決まる。具体的には、要求メッセージのFPタイプ
・フィールドとMSキーのリスト・フィールドによって決
まる（第6D図）。メッセージが「副FPになりたいとの要
求」であり、非FPノードが既に同じMSキーに対する主FP
としての別のFPを有する場合は、そのノードは要求を受
け入れない。ノードが要求を拒絶する場合、プログラム
はブロック50に進み、そこでそれが副FPであるかどうか
そのテーブルを検査する。副FPである場合、プログラム
はブロック30に戻る。そうでない場合は、プログラムは
ブロック52に進む。ブロック52で、プログラムはネット
ワーク操作員に拒絶を通知し、制御面テーブル（第４
図）の状況列に拒絶を入力する。ブロック52から、プロ
グラムは開始に戻る。
第7A図及び第7B図をさらに参照すると、判別ブロック48
に関して、非焦点ノードがその焦点を特定のタイプのサ
ービスのためのその焦点として受け入れた場合は、ブロ
ック54に進。ブロック54で、SOCテーブルの状況を「活
動状態」に変更し、ブロック56に進む。ブロック56で、
このとき焦点は、そのノードから非請求管理サービス・
データを受け取ることができる。焦点はまたサービスを
受けるネットワーク・ノードからのデータを検索するよ
うにとのメッセージを送ることができる。
このアルゴリズは、最初にFPプログラムが活動状態にな
るとき、またはSOCにノードが動的に付加されるときに
も使用される。FPプログラムは、活動状態になると、ま
ずTDBを検査し、それに対する接続性が存在するSOCテー
ブル中で定義された各焦点ノードごとに、そのノードが
ネットワークに接合されたばかりの場合と同じアルゴリ
ズムを使用する。SOCテーブルにノードが追加される
と、FPプログラムはまず、そのノードに対する接続性が
存在するかどうか判定し、ブロック41から次に進む。
第7A図及び第7B図をさらに参照すると、ブロック31に関
して、TDUメッセージを受け取っていない場合は、ノー
（Ｎ）経路をとってブロック33に進む。ブロック33で、
「セッション停止通知」を受け取ったかどうか検査す
る。「セッション停止通知」を受け取っている場合は、
ブロック35で、SOCテーブル中のNFPノードの状態を「非
活動セッション・ダウン」に更新し、ブロック37に進
む。ブロック37で、ネットワーク操作員に通知して、開
始に戻る。ブロック33に関して、「セッション停止通
知」を受け取らなかった場合は、ブロック39に戻って、
SOCテーブル中のNFPノードの状況を「取消し」に更新
し、次にブロック37で、前記の機能の実行する。
第８図は、非焦点ノードで使用されるアルゴリズムの流
れ図を示す。開始ブロックから、プログラムはブロック
60に進む。ブロック60で、非焦点ノードが焦点ノードか
ら要求メッセージを受け取る。次にブロック62で、メッ
セージが「主焦点になりたいとの要求」メッセージであ
るかどうか検査する。そうである場合、そのFP許可テー
ブル（第５図）を検査して、そのノードが既に同じMSキ
ーに関して他の焦点とセッションを持っているかどうか
調べる（ブロック64）。そうでない場合は、ブロック66
に進む。ブロック66で、そのノードが焦点に「焦点受
諾」回答メッセージを送る。
ブロック64に関して、ノードが同じMSキーに関して別の
焦点とセッションを持っている場合は、ブロック72に進
む。ブロック72で、現焦点に「焦点許可（AUTH）取消
し」回答メッセージを送る。次いでブロック74で、現焦
点とのセッションを終了する。すべてのセッションは、
各ネットワーク・ノード（NN）中のLU機能によってセッ
トアップされ制御されることに留意されたい。次いでブ
ロック76で、その焦点許可テーブル（第５図）を焦点要
求メッセージ中で受け取った情報からの焦点名、MSキ
ー、及び焦点タイプで更新する。その後、ブロック78
で、ノードは、MSキーによって識別される範疇に関する
非請求ネットワーク管理情報の送信を開始することがで
きる。
第８図とくに判断ブロックをさらに参照すると、ブロッ
ク62での質問に対する回答がノーである場合は、判断ブ
ロック80に進む。ブロック80で、それが「副焦点になり
たいとの要求」であるかどうか検査する。そうでない場
合は、ブロック70で、焦点ノードに「焦点拒絶」回答を
送る。そうである場合は、ブロック80から判断ブロック
82に進む。判断ブロック82で、そのノードが他の主焦点
とセッションを持っているかどうか検査する。回答がイ
エスである場合は、ブロック70に進む。回答がノーの場
合は、ブロック66に進む。非焦点ノードがその焦点ノー
ドとのセッションを失ったときは、このFPノードに関連
するFP許可テーブル中の項目を削除する。これで、本発
明を実施するために使用されるプログラムの説明を終わ
る。
本発明の独特な特徴の一つは、FPノードのSOC中にある
非焦点ノードが動的に変更できることである。このこと
を第９図の流れ制御図に示す。ネットワーク・ノード
は、図面の上端に焦点Ａ、焦点Ｂ、焦点Ｃとして記して
ある。この流れ図の矢印は、それぞれノード間で情報が
流れる方向を示す。すなわち、ステップ１で、焦点Ａは
ノードＣに「主焦点になりたいとの要求」メッセージを
出す。そうするのは、焦点Ａ自体とノードＣの間のセッ
ションを確立し、次いでその要求メッセージを出す焦点
Ａの制御面テーブル中にノードＣがリストされているた
めである。ステップ２で、ノードＣはその要求を受諾
し、焦点Ａに「許可受諾」メッセージを出す。本発明の
好ましい実施例では、ノードＡは、回答メッセージ中で
制御ベクトルＸ′62′コードを発行することによって受
諾を行なう。ステップ３で、焦点ＢはノードＣに「主焦
点になりたいとの要求」メッセージを出す。そうするの
は、ノードＣが焦点ＢのSOCテーブルで定義されたばか
りだからである。焦点ＢはノードＣとのセッションを確
立し、「主焦点になりたいとの要求」メッセージを出
す。ノードＣはその要求を受諾し、２つのメッセージを
出す。その１つは要求を受諾するメッセージで焦点Ｂ宛
であり、もう一つは以前の許可を取り消すもので焦点Ａ
宛（ステップ５）である。この特定の例では、主焦点Ａ
またはＢからノードＣへの要求を順序によって、どの焦
点が許可を持つか、及びどの許可が取り消されるかが決
まることに留意されたい。この特定の例では、第２の要
求を出した焦点が、前の要求より優先されるものと見な
される。もちろん、本発明の範囲または教示から逸脱す
ることなく、他の何らかの種類の優先順位を定めること
もできる。
ある焦点が生成し別の焦点に送ることができる要求メッ
セージの一つは、「バックアップ焦点となりたいとの要
求」メッセージである。バックアップ焦点Ｂ、主焦点
Ａ、及びノードＸなどサービスを受けるノードの間で交
換される通信を、第10図に示す。ある焦点が他の１つま
たは複数の焦点に対してバックアップ機能を提供するよ
うに定義されている場合、図のＢなどをその焦点は、そ
れがバックアップする焦点とのセッションを確立する。
バックアップ焦点「焦点としてバックアップしたいとの
要求」メッセージを送る。焦点Ａなどの受信側焦点は、
それがその焦点をバックアップ焦点としてサポートする
かどうかを示す。その焦点がバックアップ焦点によって
指定されるキーに対する焦点でない場合は、許可は拒絶
される。第９図に関して、ノードＸは焦点Ａの制御面テ
ーブル中にある。焦点Ｂは、焦点Ａに対するバックアッ
プとして、ＡとＢの間のセッションが失われ、再確立で
きないとき、ノードＸとのセッションを確立しようと試
みる。
バックアップ焦点が、主焦点Ａからサービスを受けるノ
ードとセッションを確立するには、バックアップ焦点Ｂ
は、バックアップされる焦点の制御面（あるいは、バッ
クアップが多数の焦点によって提供される場合は、恐ら
くその制御面の一部分）について知っていなければなら
ない。焦点とそのバックアップの間のセッションが失わ
れると、バックアップ焦点はセッションの再確立が試み
る。そのセッションが再確立された場合、ブロック80と
82（第10図の）両方に記載された通信が行なわれる。す
なわち、「焦点になりたいとの要求」メッセージが送ら
れ、サービスを受ける焦点から回答が出される。しか
し、焦点とのバックアップの間のセッションが再確立で
きない場合は、バックアップ焦点はローカル操作員にこ
の状態を知らせてそのバックアップ焦点が、バックアッ
プされる失われた焦点の制御面のその部分にあるすべて
のノードとセッションを確立しようと試みるべきかどう
か操作員が判断できるようにする。操作員が介入が好ま
しいのは、操作員はその主焦点に対する接続性がなぜ失
われたか知っている可能性があり、したがってそのバッ
クアップが必要かどうか知っている可能性があるからで
ある。
バックアップ焦点とバックアップされる制御面中のノー
ドの間のセッションが確立された場合、「副焦点になり
たいとの要求」メッセージがその主焦点の制御面内にあ
る各ノードに送られる。そのノードは、焦点を持ってい
ない場合は副焦点を自分の焦点として受諾し、そうでな
い場合はその要求を拒絶する。
動作 動作に際しては、管理されるまたはサービスを受ける１
組のネットワーク・ノードの名前、各焦点ノードの制御
面テーブル中で定義される。この名前は焦点操作員が動
的に追加または削除することができる。FP SOCテーブ
ル中であるノードが活動状態になると、焦点はそのノー
ドとのセッションを確立し、そのノードに「主焦点にな
りたいとの要求」メッセージを送る。ノードがそれに対
して許可が要求されているキーをサポートする場合、ノ
ードはイエスの回答を出す（要求側を指定されたキーに
対するその焦点として認める）。これらのキーは、特定
の範疇の管理サービス・データを識別することができ
る。許可要求が受諾された場合、そのノードは焦点のデ
ィレクトリ中に項目を作成する（第５図）。焦点のディ
レクトリ中の項目を使って、非請求メッセージに対する
宛先焦点が決定し、または特定の焦点が特定の管理サー
ビス要求をノードに送ることを許可されるかどうか決定
することができる。要求中にパスワードを含めることも
できる。
その焦点がノードからの焦点として受諾されない場合、
その焦点は「焦点になりないとの要求」メッセージを修
正して再提出することができる。すなわち、それに対し
てこの焦点が許可を要求しているキーを変更し、あるい
はその制御面テーブル中でそのノードが焦点要求を拒絶
したことを示し、操作員に通知することができる。焦点
がそのノードに対する焦点として受諾される場合、その
焦点はすべての非請求管理サービス・データを、許可さ
れたキーに対するノードから送られたものとして受け取
る。
焦点は、そのユーザ定義の制御面テーブルに名前が現わ
れる各ノードとのセッションを確立する責任を負う。そ
の例外は、それに対する接続性が存在しないノード、
「主焦点になりないとの要求」メッセージを拒絶したノ
ード、及び別の焦点からサービスを受けるノードだけで
ある。あるノードが新しい焦点を受諾するとき、以前の
焦点に、別の焦点からサービスを受けると通知する。焦
点とその制御面内のノードの間のセッションが失われた
とき、そのノードに対する接続性が存在する場合は、そ
の焦点はそのノードと新しいセッションを確立する。そ
のセッションが失われたとき、非焦点ノードはそのFPノ
ードに関連するFP許可テーブル中の全項目をパージす
る。
F.発明の効果 本発明を使用するといくつかの利点が得られる。それに
は、（１）通信システムの管理が、そのシステムの操作
を担当する人が指定するサイトで実行できること、
（２）それらのサイトが、調整されたシステム定義なし
でローカル位置で定義できること、（３）管理サービス
の焦点間でのネットワークの構成が管理サービスの分野
（すなわち、問題管理、性能、会計管理、構成管理、変
更管理）によって、または分野内で（たとえば、問題管
理内である種の警告はある管理サービス焦点で扱うこと
ができ、他のすべての警告は別の管理サービス焦点で扱
うことができる）行なわれること、（４）ある管理サー
ビス焦点がその特定の管理サービス機能を担当する１組
のノードがシステムの再定義なしに動的に変更できるこ
と、（５）焦点のバックアップを動的に行なえること、
（６）主焦点に割り当てられていないノードが、副焦点
またはデフォルト焦点から焦点サービスを受けることが
できることなどがあげられる。

Claims (1)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】通信ネットワークによって相互接続された
    複数のノードを含むコンピュータ・ネットワークを管理
    する方法において、 （ａ）ネットワークを少なくとも１つの管理ノードと複
    数の被管理ノードに区分するステップと、 （ｂ）管理ノードで、当該管理ノードが管理することの
    予定されている被管理ノードの名前のリストを含む制御
    テーブルを維持するステップと、 （ｃ）各被管理ノードで、当該被管理ノードを管理する
    ことの予定されている管理ノードを特定する標識を少な
    くとも含む管理許可テーブルを維持するステップと、 （ｄ）管理要求メッセージを作成して、管理ノードから
    活動開始した被管理ノードに送るステップと、 （ｅ）管理要求メッセージを受けた被管理ノードから、
    管理要求メッセージを発した管理ノードが当該被管理ノ
    ードの管理を予定している管理ノードであることが確認
    されたときのみ、要求受諾メッセージを発して回答する
    ステップと、 （ｆ）要求受諾メッセージによる回答ののちに、情報メ
    ッセージを作成して当該管理ノードに転送するステップ
    とを有することを特徴とするコンピュータ・ネットワー
    ク管理方法。
