(57)【要約】 【目的】 非常に多くのストックされたビデオ・イメー
ジ・シーケンスから所望のものを選択してストック・フ
ーテージとする。 【構成】 ビデオ・イメージ・シーケンス及びそのライ
ブラリを記憶したビデオ・ディスク・プレーヤ２６か
ら、先ずライブラリ索引を検索して、候補となる１組の
イメージ・シーケンスの静止画をモニタ３６に表示す
る。この中ら所望のものを選択し、そのイメージ・シー
ケンスをストック・フーテージとしてビデオ番組を制作
する。

【発明の詳細な説明】
【０００１】
【産業上の利用分野】本発明は、ビデオ制作におけるビ
デオ・イメージ・バンク装置、特に、ストリー・ボード
及び／又は編集テープを準備する際に、ビデオ・テープ
のプロデュサが直ちに利用できる非常に多くのストック
・フーテージのイメージ・シーケンスを保存するビデオ
・イメージ・バンク装置の提供にある。
【０００２】
【従来の技術及び発明が解決しようとする課題】テレビ
ジョンは、人々の日常の一部であり、見ているビデオが
おもしろくなければ、人々は退屈する。人々は、総べて
のビデオが通常の放送内容の品質にまで高まることを期
待している。実務用テープや訓練用テープなどを制作す
る小規模なプロデュサにとって、放送局並の品質の番組
を制作する経費は、非常に高い。おもしろいストック・
フーテージ（記録された短い動画で、ちょっとした挿入
などに用いる）を挿入することにより実務番組を目立つ
ようにする平凡な試みは、それに必要とする時間と経費
とによりその利用が制限されるので、満足のいくもので
はない。さらに、かかるストック・フーテージのライブ
ラリを維持するには、多くの異なるビデオ・テープのリ
ールを維持する必要があるので、この維持だけの経費
も、小規模なプロデュサにとっては非常に高い。これら
テープに、仮え索引を付けても、ストック・フーテージ
を制作テープ内に編集する前に、所望のストック・フー
テージを検索しなければならないので、これらテープ
は、利用が困難であり、時間がかかる。ビデオ市場は、
成長し続けているので、安価に制作を行える手段が求め
られ続けている。制作経費を削減する標準的な方法は、
ストック・フーテージを利用することであるが、ストッ
ク・フーテージを探し出し、取り入れる経費と時間と
が、小規模なプロデュサにとっては大きな問題である。
【０００３】特に、実務用制作分野における小規模プロ
デュサにとって、更に関連した問題は、プロデュサが書
き込みのコピーを行わなければならないことであるが、
これはビデオと整合せず、不快となる。よって、かかる
書き込みのコピーを基にした制作は、放送局並の品質で
ないビデオに対する負担としては大げさである。
【０００４】よって、いかなる所望のストック・フーテ
ージを実質的に瞬時に検索して、ストック・フーテージ
を蓄積する経費、及びかかるストック・フーテージが挿
入されるビデオ・テープを制作する経費を削減できると
共に、蓄積したストック・フーテージへの索引として書
き込みコピーを利用できるような、小形でランダム・ア
クセスできるビデオ用ストック・フーテージのストレー
ジ装置が望まれている。
【０００５】したがって、本発明の目的は、非常に多く
のおもしろいストックされたイメージ・シーケンスをビ
デオ・プロデュサに利用できるようにしたものであり、
ビデオ制作用の視覚的効果に対してライブラリ形式であ
るビデオ・イメージ・バンク装置の提供にある。

【課題を解決するための手段】本発明によれば、ライブ
ラリをビデオ・ディスクに蓄積し、コンピュータ・ディ
スクに索引を付けるが、このライブラリは、装置を完全
にするため、適切なオーディオ効果も含んでいる。コン
ピュータ索引は、参照がクロスしているので、ユーザ
は、書き込まれた制作スクリプトのキー・ワード検索に
より、適切なオーディオ及びビデオ・シーケンスを見つ
けることができる。この装置は、標準テキスト形式を受
け付けるので、スクリプトにざっと目を通すことができ
る。また、この装置は、パーソナル・コンピュータと両
立性があるので、ユーザが既に所有している装置を安価
に改造できるという利点もある。ライブラリを自動ディ
スク交換器にセットして、アクセス時間を短縮できる。
ハードウエアには、交換機構がオプションである１組の
ビデオ・ディスクと、マイクロプロセッサ制御器と、デ
ィスク・プレーヤと、コンピュータ表示器とが含まれ
る。制御器用のソフトウェアには、ディスクの視覚情報
を索引するプログラムが含まれる。このプログラムは、
メニュで駆動され、見出しの番号により、イメージ・シ
ーケンスのクロス検索が可能となる。また、イメージ・
シーケンスの静止フレームの番号を表示できる。このプ
ログラムは、書き込まれた制作スクリプトから強調単語
をキー・ワードとしてユーザのためにアクセスでき、可
能なイメージ・シーケンスを識別できる。
【０００７】本発明の他の目的、利点及び新規な特徴
は、添付図を参照した以下の説明より明らかになろう。

【実施例】図１は、本発明のビデオ・イメージ・バンク
装置の第１実施例のブロック図である。このビデオ・イ
メージ・バンク装置１０は、キーボード１４、表示装置
１６及びマイクロプロセッサ１８を有するパーソナル・
コンピュータ１２を基本としている。マイクロプロセッ
サ１８は、ハード・ディスク・ドライブ２０及びフロッ
ピ・ディスク・ドライブ２２を具えている。フロッピ・
ディスク・ドライブ２２により、ビデオ・ライブラリ索
引をハード・ディスク・ドライブ２０にロードする。援
助用ソフトウェアも、ハード・ディスク・ドライブ２０
にロードする。キーボード１４及び表示装置１６に表示
した適切なメニュを用いて、任意に選択したメニュ項目
又はワード・プロセッサのテキスト・ファイル内で強調
したキー・ワードに対応するビデオ・イメージ・シーケ
ンスを有する特定のビデオ・ディスク及びトラックを識
別する。ライブラリ２４からの適切なビデオ・ディスク
を手動でビデオ・ディスク・プレーヤ２６にロードし、
プロセッサ１８の制御により、このディスクの各適切な
トラックからの静止画フレームを表示装置１６に自動的
に表示する。これら静止画フレームから、視覚用にユー
ザが１つのイメージ・シーケンスを選択する。そして、
可能ならば、このイメージ・シーケンスを編集リストの
一部又はワード・プロセッサ・テキスト・ファイルの一
部として蓄積して、ストリー・ボード（話の筋）を作成
し、及び／又はこのイメージ・シーケンスをビデオ・カ
セット３０に記録する。
【０００９】テレビジョン番組制作に詳しくないプロデ
ュサでも、スクリプトを書け、所望のストック・フーテ
ージ素材のキー・ワードを強調する。このマイクロプロ
セッサのプログラムは、ライブラリ索引を示すためにキ
ー・ワードを利用し、強調したキー・ワードを例示する
種々のストック・フーテージを識別する。そして、プロ
デュサは、識別したライブラリ・ディスクから静止画を
表示するが、この静止画は、このディスク上の識別した
ストック・フーテージの各々に対応する。例えば、キー
・ワードが「衝突」の場合、プログラムは、飛行機、自
動車、電車、船などの衝突を含む総べてのストック・フ
ーテージを識別する。再生用に登載された特定のディス
クにある各識別されたストック・フーテージからの静止
画を表示する。プロデュサは、更に検討することを望む
ものを選択する。選択したストック・フーテージをディ
スクから充分に再生できるので、プロデュサは、どのス
トック・フーテージが適切かを判断できる。プロデュサ
が最終的にそのキー・ワードに対する特定のストック・
フーテージを選択すると、このストック・フーテージの
識別が、書き込まれたスクリプト、又はワード・プロセ
ッサ・テキスト・ファイルに挿入されて、ストリー・ボ
ードを形成する。さらに、プログラムは、キー・ワード
及び選択したストック・フーテージを互いに、そしてプ
ロデュサと関連させることにより、発見的に動作するの
で、プロデュサがキー・ワードとして「衝突」を再び強
調すると、このプログラムは、先ず、プロデュサがキー
・ワード及び関連する別なワードとして何を以前に選択
したかを呼び起こす。よって、プロデュサが特定の自動
車衝突を選択した場合、次に、プロデュサはそのキー・
ワードを用いる。プログラムは、その予め選択した自動
車衝突のストック・フーテージ及び他の自動車衝突スト
ック・フーテージを表示用に選択し、船、飛行機及び電
車の衝突を無視する。
【００１０】図２は、本発明の第２実施例のブロック図
であり、この実施例のビデオ・イメージ・バンク装置１
０’は、図１の実施例の場合よりも高価である。この装
置１０’は、専用マイクロプロセッサ（μＰ）３２と、
適切なキーボード３４と、モニタ３６とを一緒に用いて
いる。マイクロプロセッサ３２は、ディスク・プレーヤ
２６を制御すると共に、ビデオ・ディスク・ライブラリ
の限定版を含んだビデオ・ディスク交換器３８も制御す
る。パーソナル・コンピュータを用いても、ソフトウェ
アは、モニタ３６に表示されたメニュから選択された所
望のイメージ・シーケンス、又は強調されたキー・ワー
ドを含む特定のディスク及びトラックを識別するため
に、ハード・ディスク・ドライブ２０にロードされたビ
デオ索引を用いて同様に動作する。各選択したイメージ
・シーケンス（例えば、８以上）からの静止フレームを
モニタ３６に自動的に表示し、オペレータは任意の静止
フレームを選択する。選択したストック・フーテージが
ディスク・プレーヤ２６から動作し、このイメージ・シ
ーケンスが受け入れ可能ならば、これが編集リスト２８
用ハード・ディスク・ドライブ２８に加えられるか、又
はストリー・ボードに挿入される。このシーケンスを放
送局並の品質のテープ４０に蓄積しても良い。
【００１１】図３に示すビデオ・イメージ・バンク装置
１０''の第３実施例は、イメージ・シーケンスのアクセ
ス速度を減らすために、２個のビデオ・ディスク・プレ
ーヤ２６を有する強化したディスク・ストレージを具え
た交換器３８’を用いている。ビデオ・ディスク・プレ
ーヤを有するビデオ交換器は、米国ニューヨーク州ニュ
ーヨーク・シティーのビデオボックス・ネットワーク・
インコーポレイテッド製ビデオボックス・デジタル・ビ
デオ・ミュージック・システムであり、これは、３０枚
の両面レーザ・ディスクを納め、検索できる。ここで
も、ソフトウェアの動作は、他の実施例と同じである。
【００１２】この装置によって作成した編集リスト用ハ
ード・ディスク・ドライブ２８、又はストリー・ボード
及びビデオ・テープ３０、４０を、通常の編集装置と共
に用いて、所望の最終ビデオ作品ができる。マイクロプ
ロセッサ／パーソナル・コンピュータ３２、１２を用い
て、スクリプト又は両立性のあるテキスト編集をイメー
ジ・シーケンスに加えることができる。データ索引用ハ
ード・ディスク・ドライブ２０に含まれたキー・ワード
により、検索を行うことができ、ユーザはこのキー・ワ
ードを拡張できる。この方法において、ユーザは、検索
を行い、最終ビデオ作品に用いるのに望ましいビデオ・
ライブラリ・イメージ・シーケンスから抽出を容易に行
える。さらに、ユーザは、これら所望のシーケンスを関
連した編集リストと共に編集テープに送る。そして、通
常の編集技法を用いて、最終ビデオ作品にこれらシーケ
ンスを挿入する。
【００１３】図４は、本発明によるビデオ・イメージ・
バンク装置の制御器用の代表的な流れ図である。この図
４に示す如く、ユーザが提供したビデオ・ディスク・セ
ット用のライブラリ索引によりビデオ・イメージ・バン
ク装置を初期化する。なお、ライブラリ索引は、キー・
ワード索引も含んでいる。オペレータは、メニュから、
又はキー・ワードにより、複数のイメージ・シーケンス
を初期選択として選択する。これらイメージ・シーケン
スは、基本的には、政府刊行物及びフィルム・ライブラ
リの如きパブリック・ドメインである資料や、独立に発
行された特別な資料を含む。イメージ・シーケンスは、
クロスして参照されるので、例えば、核爆発を、爆発、
原子エネルギー及び破壊からアクセスできる。イメージ
・シーケンスが識別されると、手動、又は自動交換器３
６、３６’により、適切なディスクをディスク・プレー
ヤ２６に移動させる。各識別したイメージ・シーケンス
からの静止フレームを、例えば８個のグループでモニタ
に表示し、オペレータは、特定目的に適切か否かを判断
するため任意の１つを選択する。イメージ・シーケンス
の１つを受け入れると、このイメージ・シーケンスを出
力ビデオ・テープに転送して、このテープ用の編集リス
トを準備する。各受け入れ可能なイメージ・シーケンス
に対して、対応するビデオをテープに転送し、編集リス
トを更新する。所望の総べての標準ビデオ・ストック・
フーテージをライブラリから出力テープに転送した後、
標準編集システムがこの出力テープ及び関連した編集リ
ストを用いて、選択したイメージ・シーケンスを最終ビ
デオ作品の適当な位置に挿入する。

【発明の効果】上述の如く、本発明のビデオ・イメージ
・バンク装置によれば、オペレータは、イメージ・シー
ケンスのライブラリから所望のビデオ・イメージシーケ
ンスを容易に選択し、このイメージ・シーケンスを編集
リストと共に編集テープに転送できるので、ビデオ作品
の最終編集を迅速且つ効果的に行える。

  1. 【請求項１】 複数のビデオ・イメージ・シーケンスを
    自動的にアクセスするビデオ・イメージ・バンク装置で
    あって、 上記ビデオ・イメージ・シーケンスのライブラリを含ん
    だ１組の蓄積されたビデオのライブラリ索引をアクセス
    し、所望効果用の最初の１組のビデオ・イメージ・シー
    ケンスを自動的に識別する手段と、 上記最初の１組の各ビデオ・イメージ・シーケンスに対
    して、静止フレームの形式で上記最初の１組のビデオ・
    イメージ・シーケンスを表示する手段と、 上記最初の１組からビデオ・イメージ・シーケンスの１
    つを上記所望効果として選択する手段とを具えたビデオ
    ・イメージ・バンク装置。
