を使用するコードワードマトリクスの更新を行わない。

264において、コンフィデンス・ウエイトがコードワ
ードベクトルの各コードワード値に割り当てられる。特
に、コンフィデンス・ウエイトは、最も近い隣のものと
クラスタとがデコードされているかどうかに依存して各
コードワードに割り当てられる。例えば、図19に示す
ように、列1、列2、列3、列9及び列10のコードワ
ード値には、直接隣接するもののデコードが成功して同
じクラスタ数を有するので、高位のコンフィデンス・ウ
エイト(“H”)が割り当てられる。列4と列8のコー
ドワード値には、一方の隣接のもののデコードが成功し
て同じクラスタ数を有するが、他方の隣接のコードワー
ド値が“BAD”であるので、中位のコンフィデンス・
ウエイト(“M”)が割り当てられる。列6のコードワ
ード値には、隣接する両方のもののデコードが成功しな
かったので、低位のコンフィデンス・ウエイト
(“L”)が割り当てられる。従って、コードワードベ
クトルの列iのコードワード値のコンフィデンス・ウエ
イトは、基本的には、列i−1と列i+1とにあるコー
ドワードのクラスタ数の関数となる。この関数は、イン
デックスが3つのコードワードのクラスタ数から計算さ
れるルックアップテーブルによって実施され得る。

トル内の対応コードワード値と同じであるかどうかを判
定する。それらの値が同じであれば、ステップ276に
おいて、マトリクスのロケーション〔R,C〕における
コードワード値に割り当てられたコンフィデンス・ウエ
イトがコードワードベクトルの対応コード値のコンフィ

コードワードマトリクスのロケーション〔R,C〕にお
ける現在のコードワード値が、列Cのコードワードベク
トル内の対応コードワード値と同じであるかどうかを判
定する。それらの値が同じであれば、ステップ276に
おいて、マトリクスのロケーション〔R,C〕における
コードワード値に割り当てられたコンフィデンス・ウエ
イトがコードワードベクトルの対応コード値のコンフィ
デンス・ウエイトによって増加させられる。そうでなけ
れば、マトリクスのコードワード値のコンフィデンス・
ウエイトが、ステップ278におけるベクトルのコード

8で減少させられると、ステップ280において、その
コンフィデンス・ウエイトが、ゼロ以下に減少させられ
たかどうかをみるためにテストされる。コンフィデンス
・ウエイトがゼロより小さいと、ステップ282におい
て、コードワードベクトルの新しいコードワード値が、
コードワードマトリクスの対応ロケーションの現在のコ
ードワード値に対して置換される。マトリクスのコード
ワード値に割り当てられたコンフィデンス・ウエイト
も、ステップ284において正の値に変更される。

と、コードワードマトリクスがコードワード値の新ベク
トルで埋まりコンフィデンス・ウエイトが更新された後
の各時間において、マトリクスの残りの部分を、組み込
んだシンボルのエラー修正能力を使用して満たす試みが
なされる。デコードに未だ成功していないコードワード
の数と位置とは、マトリクスの各コードワード値の割り
当てられたコンフィデンス・ウエイトを所定のスレッシ
ュホールドと比較することによって判定される。スレッ
シュホールドより小さいコンフィデンス・ウエイトをも
つ値は、未だデコードされていないものと判定される。
デコードされていないコードワードの数が、保証レベル
によって定められるシンボルのエラー修正能力より小さ
い場合、マトリクスの修正が行われる。

- 【請求項1】 グラフィックイメージを含むイメージ部
と、 それぞれが少なくとも1つのマークのパターンを表す隣
接する少なくとも2行の符号語を含む、機械読み取りが
可能なフォーマットに符号化されたデータを含む情報部
と、からなる記録体。 - 【請求項2】 請求項1に記載した記録体において、前
記情報部は前記グラフィックイメージの上に重なってい
るが、該グラフィックイメージを不明瞭にしないように
形成され、機械読み取りが可能な前記フォーマットは、
エラー訂正が可能であり、前記グラフィックイメージに
よる歪みをしょうじても回復可能である記録体。 - 【請求項3】 請求項1に記載した記録体において、前
記符号語は前記情報部内の複数の情報語を含み、前記イ
メージ部は複数のイメージ語を含み、前記イメージ語の
各々はマークのパターンを含んで、前記イメージ部の符
号語のすべてが前記グラフィックイメージを表すように
なった記録体。 - 【請求項4】 請求項2又は3に記載した記録体におい
て、前記情報部のデータは2次元バーコードに符号化さ

て、前記符号化手段は受け取ったデータを2次元のバー
コードフォーマットに符号化する手段を含む印刷装置。 - 【請求項19】 請求項18に記載した印刷装置におい
て、受け取ったデータを2次元バーコードフォーマット
に符号化するための前記手段は、受け取ったデータをP
DF417フォーマットに符号化する手段を含む印刷装
置。 - 【請求項20】 記録体上にイメージを置くための手段
を含む請求項17に記載した印刷装置。 - 【請求項21】 請求項20に記載した印刷装置におい
て、前記イメージは写真であり、該イメージを記録体上
に置くための前記手段は、記録体上に写真を置くための

グラフィックイメージとを含む記録体のための印刷装置
において、 前記記録体の前記情報部の選定した区域と前記記録体の
グラフィック部の選定した区域に印刷すべき情報を受け
取るための入力手段と、 前記情報部の前記選定した区域と前記記録体の前記グラ
フィック部の選定した区域とを位置決めするためのアラ
インメント手段と、 前記アラインメント手段と前記入力手段とに結合され、
受け取った情報を前記情報部及び前記グラフィック部の
選定した区域に置くための出力手段と、からなることを
特徴とする印刷装置。 - 【請求項23】 請求項22に記載した印刷装置におい
て、前記記録体は、交互の順序で配列された情報語及び
イメージ語の行を有し、各々の前記行は、その行を識別
するためのデータを含む第1のフィールドを有し、前記
アラインメント手段は、この最初のフィールドを読み取
って前記選定した区域の位置決めを行うようになった印
刷装置。 - 【請求項24】 請求項23に記載した印刷装置におい
て、各々の行は、その行における交互に現れる情報語と
イメージ語の長さのデータを含む第2のフィールドを含
み、前記アラインメント手段は選定した行の前記第2の
行を読み取って前記選定した区域の位置決めを行うよう
になった印刷装置。 - 【請求項25】 エラー修正可能なフォーマットに符号
化されたデータとグラフィックイメージとを含む情報部
を有する記録体のための読み取り装置において、 前記情報部から前記データを抽出するための読み取り手
段と、 前記読み取り手段に結合され、抽出された前記データに
存在するエラーを修正するデータのエラー修正手段と、 前記修正手段に結合され、抽出された前記データをエラ
ー修正の後に出力するための出力手段と、からなること
を特徴とする読み取り装置。 - 【請求項26】 請求項25に記載した読み取り装置に
おいて、前記情報区域を見い出すための走査手段と、前
記走査手段に結合され、前記情報部からの符号化された
情報をデコードするためのデコード手段と、を含む読み
取り装置。 - 【請求項27】 複数の情報語を含む情報部内のデータ
と複数のイメージ語を含むイメージ部内のグラフィック
イメージとを有し、前記情報語及びイメージ語は行内で
交互の順序に組織化され、各々の前記行は交互の順序の
長さを表すフィールドを含む記録体のための読み取り装
置において、 前記フィールドを読み取り前記情報語と前記イメージ語
の交互の順序の長さを決定するための手段と、 前記行内の前記情報語のみを読み取るための手段と、 読み取った前記情報語をデコードするための手段と、か
らなることを特徴とする読み取り装置。
