表面硬化を目的とする。 【構成】 金属又は合金に、易酸化性もしくは易窒化性
の金属溶質(ジルコニウム、イットリウム、タンタルな
ど)の小量を添加し、加熱して内部酸化又は窒化を行っ
て達成される。
Description
して使用するのに適する生体適合性金属および合金の表
面硬化に関し、このような合金は特にニオブ、チタンお
よびジルコニウムベースの合金が含まれ、短期又は長期
に潜在的な生体への副作用を示すことがあるような元素
を含まないものに関する。
や循環系移植具のような耐力医療用移植具に使用される
最も普通の材料としては、金属合金、セラミックス、生
体適合性ポリマーと各種強化材との複合体がある。
金、チタン、チタン合金のような金属と金属合金は、移
植具材料として、特に整形外科用に長年使用されてき
た。しかし、これらの材料は移植具として必要とされる
必須の強度特性をもつか、フレッチング、摩耗と腐食に
これらの効果を減少さす処理をしないかぎり、感受性で
ある。関節接合工程で生ずる粒子又は組立品間の微動が

例えば膝又は腰人工器官の支持表面やねじと骨板又はモ
ジュール移植片の間に用いる場合に特に有用である。例
えば整形用移植具の支持表面の場合には、骨セメント質
断片が比較的薄い(約5ミクロンまで)の表面コーチン
グを時間とともに侵食し、コーチングからの摩耗産物が
次いで柔らかな下層の金属基板の摩耗や摩損を促進する
ことになる。

Oxide Dispersion Strengthening,Gordon and Breach,
NY,“Strengthening of Niobium-2irocorium Alloys
byInternal Oxidation," 1968)は、Nb−1Zn合金の
降伏極限引張り強さが内部酸化で倍にできることしてい
る。しかし、この研究は合金の高温での耐クリープ性の
改良を目的とするもので、表面硬化医療用移植片の耐摩
滅・摩耗改良に用いる殺示や示唆はない。
整形及び循環系の移植片においては、表面摩耗効果によ
る摩耗粒子の産生を最小にする必要な強度と高い耐摩耗
性を有する移植片材料が必要とされる。

積オーバレイセラミック様コーチングを使用せず移植具
の耐摩耗性を増強する方法を目的とする。この発明の1
つの具体例では、金属移植具の内部酸化又は窒化が移植
具表面の硬化に用いられる。最少の外部表面酸化物又は
窒化物スケールが硬化移植具に形成されるが、表面強化
は、主に移植具表面直下の内部酸化又は窒化(nitridiz
ation)による分散強化によるものである。そのため、移
植具表面を損傷又は生体副作用をする摩耗産物が剥落し
たり産生する硬い外部スケールの形成がみられない。

Nb,Ti−Nb−Zr,Co−Cr−MoおよびFe
−Cr−Ni−Moからなる群より選択された金属と、
前記金属と合金されるタンタル、イソトリウム、ハフニ
ウム、トリウム、ジルコニウム、クロム、ニオブ、アル
ミニウムおよびシリコンから選択された易酸化性又は易
窒化性金属溶質の2w/w%以下からなり、その中で移
植具本体表面での易酸化性又は易窒化性溶質の実質的な
割合が酸化又は窒化されて移植具の表面を生体内での摩
耗及び摩擦耐性の増大用に約40ロックウエルCより大
きな硬度に硬化されている、移植片本体を有する表面硬
化金属製医療用移植具が提供される。
窒素または炭素の細隙的(interstitial)拡散で移植具
表面の付加的硬化法を提供する。これは、予め酸化また
は窒化処理した移植具に用いられる。予め内部酸化又は
窒化の利益に影響しない低い拡散硬化温度が利用され
る。
または窒化法は、明白な表面スケールがなく金属表面内
に微細な酸化物または窒化物の分散がされそのため移植
具は本質的にその金属外観を保持する。
は公知で当業者に入手可能である。これらの方法では、
表面処理を行うため、高められた温度で、プラズマ、流
動床、溶融塩、または窒素、酸素もしくは炭素含有ガス
環境を使用するものである。これらの方法で、窒素、炭
素、酸素の金属移植具への拡散と窒化物、炭素化物また
は酸化物の内層面での核形成が硬度を増加し、金属を、
ガス濃度、時間、温度および合金組成により、50ミク
ロン以上の深さに強化する。しかし、クロム含有金属中
での窒化物又は炭化物の形成はクロムとの形成を通して
起る。そのため、クロムの局所的減少が窒化物炭素化物
粒子に隣近のマトリックス中で起り、腐食耐性を減少す
る。チタン合金の酸素拡散硬化は、表面での望まれない
弱いアルファケースを促進する。内部酸化または窒化は
腐食耐性と強度損失の制限が避けられる。
面硬化は、みるべき外部窒化物もしくは炭化物スケール
を形成しないが、これらの拡散種の十分に低い分圧で行
うと、金属移植具の表面硬度は、ある種のチタン合金の
場合に50ロックウエルCを越え、金属とそれの加熱条
件による約40ロックウエルCまで変化する未処理合金
より明らかに高い。さらに通常の拡散硬化表面処理は、
チタン合金とステンレス鋼の表面摩耗とフレッチング耐
性を十分に改良できる。拡散による表面硬化は、特定金
属の拡散レート、拡散硬化温度の微細構造の安定性によ
り、他のものより、ある種の金属ではより効果的であ
る。その上、窒素または炭素のような拡散種は、コバル
ト合金またはステンレス鋼中でクロムと反応し、これら
を耐蝕性の小さなものにする。

金属移植具用の合金組成物に、低濃度の易酸化性もしく
はまたは窒化性金属溶質が加えられ、内部酸化または窒
化工程がこの特定の溶質と拡散する酸素または窒素との
反応を経て表面を強化し硬くする。これは、上記の通常
の拡散硬化法と対照的なものである。内部酸化または窒
化用の適当な金属溶質は、方法の熱力学に基いて選択さ
れる。特に、特定の金属酸化物(例Ta2O5)に対する
形成の自由エネルギー(すなわちΔG°)の値がネガテ
ィブであればある程、所定温度での金属または合金内で
の酸化物の形成傾向(すなわち、熱力学的駆動力)が大
となる。
部的に酸化されるゾーンの深さ、酸化物粒子の大きさ、
合金の強度は、酸化性溶質濃度、酸化条件での酸素濃
度、酸化温度や酸化時間に従属する。表面強度が増加す
るため、引張り曲げにおける移植具の疲れ強さも、それ
の表面硬度と続く耐摩耗性と同様に増加する。

AISI 316Lステンレス鋼(Fe−Cr−Ni−
Mo)、Co−Cr−Mo(F75又はF799)、T
i−6Al−4V、有用として考えられるいる合金が挙
げられる。この発明の耐摩耗性金属移植具を作る方法
は、移植具を組立る何れの金属または合金の殆んどに適
用できるが、Co−Cr−Moとチタン合金が好まし
い。結果としてチタン合金の移植具についての記述が多
くなされるが、他の合金にも同様に適用できることは当
然と理解さるべきである。
6Al−4V、ベータTi合金、Mi−Mo、Ti−A
l−Nb、TiVとTi−Feがある。Ti−Zr、T
i−Nb−Zr、Ti−Nbのような低い弾性率を有す
る新しいより生体適合性チタン合金も、ジルコニウムと
ニオブベースの合金と同様に、内部酸化に適用できる。
このような合金の例は、米国特許第5,169,597
号に開示されている。他の金属および合金も使用でき、
ジルコニウムや例えばZr−Nbのようなジルコニウム
合金、ステンレス鋼(Fe−Cr−Ni−Mo)のよう
なステンレス鋼に限定されない。

ル、イットリウム、ジルコニウム、ハフニウム、クロム
とアルミニウムからなる群より選択され;チタン、アル
ミニウムとバナジウムを含有する合金と、酸化性金属溶
質としてタンタル;Co−Cr−Moを含む合金と酸化
性溶質としてタンタル、アルミニウムとイットリウムか
らなる群から選択される。
金移植具は、市販の純成分、チタン、ニオブとジルコニ
ウムを適当な割合で組合せて作ることができる。チタン
合金(合金成分により)は、外部酸化用に、タンタル、
イットリウム、トリウム、クロム、アルミニウムなどの
他の金属を(通常2w/w%以下)の濃度で含んでもよ
い。Ti−Nb合金は、同じ目的で約2w/w%以下の
濃度でジルコニウム、アルミニウム、イットリウム、ハ
フニウム又はタンタルを含んでもよい。ジルコニウムま
たはその合金は同じ目的に、約2w/w%以下のタンタ
ル、イットリウム、トリウムまたはアルミニウムを含ん
でもよい。コバルト合金やステンレス鋼は、この目的
に、約2w/w%以下のタンタル、アルミニウムとイッ
トリウムを含んでもよい。
中73〜75w/w%、例えば74w/w%のチタンを
含有し、12〜14w/w%、例えば13w/w%のジ
ルコニウムと13w/w%のニオブを含むものである。
タンタルまたはアルミニウムのような他の金属の1〜3
%より少ない量例えば2%を同じ量のチタン又はジルコ
ニウムに代えて、またはそれより少ない量のニオブ(ニ
オブ濃度は低弾性するため重量)に代えて、加えること
ができる。他の好ましい合金としては、主成分としてチ
タンを金属の84〜87w/w%含み、約13〜17w
/w%のニオブと、約1〜3%以下例えば2w/w%の
タンタル、イットリウム、ハフニウム、トリウム、アル
ミニウム又はクロムを含有するものである。付加的な金
属は、同量のチタンかより少ない程度でニオブと置き換
えるのが好ましい。最も好ましい生体適合性低モジュラ
ス合金は、1%Ta含有のTi−13Nb−13Zrと
1%Ta含有のTi−15Nbである。
属溶質からなるものの好ましい組合せとしては、合金が
チタンとニオブを含有し、金属溶質がシリコンとトリウ
ムの群から選ばれ、特に好ましい合金は84〜86w/
w%(例85%)のチタン、14〜16w/w%(例1
5%)のニオブを含有するもの;合金がチタン、ニオブ
とジルコニウムを含有し、金属溶質がトリウムであり、
特に好ましい合金は72〜74w/w%(例73%)の
チタンと12〜14w/w%(例13%)のニオブと1
2〜14w/w%(例13%)のジルコニウムを含有す
るもの;合金がCo−Cr−Moで、金属溶質がシリコ
ン、タンタル、トリウム、ジルコニウム、チタンとアル
ミニウムからなる群より選ばれるもの;合金がチタン、
アルミニウムとバナジウムを含有、特に89〜91w/
w%(例90%)のチタン、5〜7w/w%(例6%)
のアルミニウムと3〜5w/w%(例4%)のバナジウ
ムからなり、金属溶質がシリコンまたはタリウムである
ものが挙げられる。
タン、ニオブ(任意にニオブの代りにタンタル)および
任意にジルコニウムあるいはその合金(ジルコニウムの
代りに任意にタンタル、イットリウムまたはアルミニウ
ム)からなる移植具を作り、使用する方法が記載されて
いる。この合金を所望の移植具形状に加工、成形又は鍛
造は、チタンまたはジルコニウム合金で使用される常法
の何れかで行うことができる。
の多孔性構造への成長により移植具の患者の骨構造で安
定化さすために、同一又は異なる組織のチタン合金での
焼結多孔性ビース又はワイヤ又はプラズマスプレーコー
チングをして供給できる。同様に、ジルコニウム又はジ
ルコニウムの合金を、ジルコニウム又はその合金の同様
な多孔性コーチングをして供給できる。このような多孔
性構造は、随時、移植具表面に焼結によって取付けられ
る。同様に、コバルト合金が多孔性金属コーチングして
供給できる。多孔性コーチングの焼結は1000℃以上
の温度で行うのが好ましいため、チタン合金の機械特性
を、実質的な粒子生長、相変化、焼結工程からくる治金
因子により明白に変化できる。例えば、多孔性コーチン
グを付着する焼結後、付加的加熱処理することが、機械
特性を回復さすのに望ましい。これらの潜在的な制限を
避けるため、移植具金属または合金を、最小の加熱を基
材に与えるプラズマスプレー法を用いてコートして多孔
性としてもよい。
科、心臓血管、または他の医療用移植具に適する非毒性
材料を提供するが、骨又はポリエチレン支持表面に対す
るマイクロフレッチング、又はマイクロフレッチング
(微細擦過)のような他の理由のため、ステンレス鋼や
コバルト合金のような合金で組立てた移植具の表面を硬
化することが望まれる。表面硬化は、増大する疲れ強度
及びマイクロフレッチングもしくは摩滅の減少の両方に
望まれるであろう。
方法を提供し、(1)イットリウム、ニオブ、タンタ
ル、ジルコニウム、トリウム、ハフニウム、クロム、ア
ルミニウムのような易酸化性溶質の低濃度を合金に添加
し、金属表面の直下にある1部の溶質を酸化することか
らなる内部酸化法;(2)ジルコニウム、シリコン又は
トリウムのような易窒化性溶質の低レベルを合金に添加
し、金属表面の直下にある1部の溶質を窒化することか
らなる内部窒化法;及び(3)窒素、酸素又は炭素を使
用する付加的な隙間的拡散(interstitial diffusion)
強化法がある。内部酸化又は窒化法では、選択される特
定の酸化性又は窒化性溶質は、移植具の特定の金属又は
合金組成によって変るものである。これら3つの方法を
順次説明する。

溶質とは、溶質が混合又は合金化される合金の他の組成
金属より容易に酸化されるものを意味する。調節した酸
化反応中、酸素が移植具表面に拡散し、合金表面上又は
直下の溶質酸化物粒子の微細分散を形成する。この内部
酸化したゾーンの深さ、酸化物粒子の大きさ、及び表面
の硬化と基体強化は、溶質濃度、酸化環境下の酸素濃
度、酸化の温度と時間によってことなる。表面での硬度
と強度が増加するため、疲れ強度も増加するであろう。

ン又はニオブより酸素とより反応性である(低形成自由
エネルギー)である。酸素濃度(酸素分圧)がニオブ又
はチタンの酸化物の形成に要求されるものより小さいと
き、ニオブ又はチタンを酸化せずに合金を内部的に酸化
することができる。同様に、溶質としてタンタルを添加
したTi−Nb−Zr又はZr−Nb合金には、酸素濃
度をチタン、ニオブ又はジルコニウムの酸化物を形成す
るのに必要なものより低くできる。加えて、溶質として
タンタルをCo−Cr−Mo合金に加えると、この易酸
化性タンタルが合金の内部酸化の原因となる。表1はチ
タン、ニオブ、ジルコニウム、タンタル、アルミニウ
ム、イットリウムなどの各種酸化物の公表された形成自
由エネルギーを示す。ΔG°値がネガティブであればあ
る程、所定温度T(°K)での酸化物形成傾向(すなわ
ち熱力学的駆動力)が大となる。
に開示の低モジュラスのチタン−ニオブ合金、チタン−
ニオブ−ジルコニウム合金及び上記の他のチタン、コバ
ルト、ジルコニウム合金が、イットリウム、クロム、ア
ルミニウム、ハフニウム、タンタルのような比較的酸化
され易い溶質の少量が存在すると内部的に酸化されるこ
とが理解されよう。タンタルとアルミニウムは、それら
のΔG°がジルコニウム又はニオブのそれよりネガティ
ブであるのでTi−Nb−Zr合金の内部酸化に使用で
きる。しかし生物学的因子の見地から、アルミニウムは
タンタルより好ましくない。この生物学的因子の問題
は、移植具の表面近くのアルミニウムを酸化アルミニウ
ムに変換することにより部分的に軽減できる。これによ
りアルミニウム合金がバルク合金に存在しても、アルミ
ニウムの存在が潜在的に致命とはならなくなる。合金中
に少量のジルコニウム、タンタル又はアルミニウム(弧
内に示す)の存在によって内部酸化できる合金として
は、Ti−Nb−Zr−(Ta)、Ti−Nb−(Z
r)、Ti−Nb−(Ta)、Ti−Nb−(Cr)、
Ti−Al−V−(Ta)、Co−Cr−Mo−(T
a)、316Lステンレス鋼(Ta)が挙げられるが、
特にこれらに限定されない。他の組合も、好ましい溶質
と他の合金組成とのΔG°の相対差に基づいて可能であ
る。
らの内部酸化(平らなプレート表面)の深さ(X)は次
式で表される。 X=[2N0 (S)D0t/vNb(0)]1/2 式中、N0 (S) は、表面での酸素濃度(例えば溶質とし
てタンタルを加えると、チタン合金又はニオブ合金の何
れかを酸化するに必要とされる濃度より小さい)、D0
は表面への酸素拡散レート、vは酸化溶質種と酸素の化
学量論値(比)(すなわちZrO2 でv=2)、Nb
(0) は内部酸化される溶質(クロム、アルミニウム、イ
ットリウム、タンタルなど)の濃度をそれぞれ示す。
拡散する酸素の前進フロントを急速に進行さすべきであ
る。これにより内部酸化物のより核化と少ない生長をも
たらし、より小さくてより効果的粒子となる。粒子生長
を最小にするために、比較的低い酸化温度が好ましい
が、酸素拡散速度との交換である。かくして酸素分圧と
溶質濃度を最大をすべきである(約2重量%以下が好ま
しい)。時間と温度は変更できるかこれらは実験的に最
適化できる。
アルミニウム又はジルコニウム)を添加した特定の合金
移植具を内部酸化するために、合金移植具は金属とその
酸化物の混合物中にパックされるが、このパッキング混
合物に選択される金属は、添加した金属溶質(例、タン
タル、ジルコニウム)に比較して次の最も易酸化性溶質
である。酸素が、移植具環境から排出され、残留酸素
は、例えば真空環境でジルコニウム又はタンタルのワイ
ヤの抵抗加熱で取除かれる(これは酸素の十分な当初の
低レベルへの“ゲッティング(getting)”と称せられ
る)。合金移植具の加熱で、パッキング中の金属酸化物
とパッキング中の金属は、平衡に達して、移植具中に存
在する低濃度の易酸化性金属溶質と第1に反応し、それ
によって金属移植具表面を内部酸化するに十分な、系中
の所定の低レベルの酸素濃度(分圧)を作る。
−4Vを内部酸化するには、移植具をアルミニウムと酸
化アルミニウムのパックした混合物中で排気する。アル
ミニウムはタンタルに次ぐ易酸化性溶質である。排気系
での残存酸素は、その環境下でのジルコニウム又はタン
タルのワイヤの抵抗加熱で減少される。約500〜12
00℃で約100時間まで(所望の深さと硬化による)
の加熱で、アルミニウム金属とその酸化物は酸素の合金
表面への拡散によってタンタル溶質酸化を生ずるのに十
分な酸素分圧(N0 (S))に達し、合金中のチタン、アル
ミニウム又はバナジウムを明白な外部酸化物スケールの
形成をさせない。この場合、酸素分圧を10-5トル近く
のするのが最も望ましく、10-5トル近くでは表面近く
にアルミニウムモノ酸化物(A10)を生成する傾向が
ある。10-6トル以下の酸素圧では、酸素が低いレベル
で酸素の表面への浸透(拡散)がゆっくりなため強力効
果は著しく小さい(すなわち内部酸化物粒子のより生長
と核化)。酸化深さは、約150オングストログより小
さいのが好ましく、加工の時間と温度は硬度と強度を最
適にするよう選定するのが望ましい。
した金属移植具としては、低濃度のジルコニウム、イッ
トリウム又はタンタルを用いて成形Ti−Nb合金成形
物を内部酸化したもの(Ti−Nb−Zr、Ti−Nb
−Y又はTi−Nb−Ta)、又は、低濃度(約2重量
%以下)のタンタル又はイットリウムを用いるTi−N
b−Zr移植具、又はジルコニウムもしくはジルコニウ
ム合金移植具の内部酸化したもの(Ti−Nb−Zr−
Ta又はZr−Taなど)が好ましい。加えて、約2重
量%以下のアルミニウム溶質レベルが移植具を内部酸化
するのに効果的である。
2重量%以下)の易窒化性溶質を基体の合金成分に加え
て内部窒化を行う方法がある。“易窒化性溶質”とは、
混合又は合金化される合金の他の成分金属より容易に窒
化されるものを意味する。チタン合金の場合には、ジル
コニウム、シリコン又はトリウムのような溶質を加える
ことができる。小量(すなわち2重量%以下)のシリコ
ン、トリウム又はジルコニウムの存在下内部窒化に適す
るチタン合金(弧内は内部窒化用溶質)としてはTi−
Nb−(Si)、Ti−Nb−(Th)とTi−Nb−
(Zr)が挙げられるが、これに特に限定されない。ジ
ルコニウム合金は、シリコン又はタリウムの約2重量%
以下を含有さすべきで、コバルト合金と316Lステン
レス鋼は約2重量%以下のトリウム、タンタル、アルミ
ニウム、シリコン又はジルコニウムを含有さすべきであ
る。
分で加えたそれぞれの溶質の実質的な部分について起る
とみられる。溶質濃度は約2重量%以下が好ましい。多
く溶質を加えてもよいが、表面硬化には効果的でなく、
従ってより多く加えることは好ましくない。
i−Nb、Ti−Nb−Zr−Ta、Ti−Nb−Ta
のようなチタン移植具やジルコニウムおよびジルコニウ
ム合金のようなジルコニウム移植具についての表面耐摩
耗性の改良に使用できる他の方法としては、表面を酸
素、窒素又は炭素で強化する“隙間拡散”がある。この
隙間拡散処理には、当該分野で知られたものが利用で
き、一般に、高められた温度で、ガス又は液状窒素もし
くは炭素含有環境、流動床を含む気相環境、又は同様の
酸素含有環境が使用される。100ミクロン以下の深さ
への拡散強化で通常十分である。この方法で、酸素、窒
素又は炭素濃度は、外部酸化物、窒化物又は炭化物スケ
ールが明白に生成しないように十分に低く保持される。
それにより本質的に金属タイプの外観が表面に残る。3
3ロックウエルC硬度のチタン合金を処理してその表面
硬度は60ロックウエルC硬度を越え、また耐表面摩擦
・フレッチングを明らかに改良できる。
拡散法が利用され、当業者に知られているが、Ti−N
b、Ti−Nb−Zr、Zr、Ti−6Al−4V、C
o−Cr−Mo及び他の内部窒化又は酸化しうる医療用
移植具金属への応用は新しい。この拡散効果法は、チタ
ン合金、ジルコニウム合金、コバルト合金、ステンレス
鋼組成物に予め内部酸化又は窒化処理をするかしないか
に関係なく、応用でき、付加的な利点を生む。
スケール様コーチングの形成を最少にするか減少にする
よう調節すべきである。それ故、硬化した移植具の表面
は、付加的表面処理を殆んどしないか全くせず、所望に
より例えば、無定形ダイヤモンド様カーボン、熱分解カ
ーボン、TiN、TiC、酸化物コーチングなどを物理
的又は化学的に堆積してコートすることができ、それに
よって耐摩耗性を改良できる。この明細書で記載の何れ
の方法かによる硬化処理は、コーチングの付着強度を改
良するであろう。この発明によれば、表面硬化金属医療
用移植具本体の製造への下記のものの使用を提供する。
Al−Nb、Ti−Fe、Ti−V、Zr、Zr−N
b、Ti−Nb、Ti−Nb−Zr、Co−Cr−Mo
とFe−Cr−Ni−Moからなる群より選択された金
属で、かつこの金属と合金化される、タンタル、イット
リウム、ハフニウム、トリウム、ジルコニウム、クロ
ム、ニオブ、アルミニウムとシリコンよりなる群から選
択された易酸化性もしくは易窒化性の金属溶質の2重量
%以下を含み、移植片本体の表面で易酸化性もしくは易
窒化性の溶質の実質的部分が酸化又は窒化されて移植具
の表面を摩滅及び摩耗の耐性向上用に約40ロックウエ
ルC以上の硬度に強化又は硬化されてなるもの。
これによって発明が限定されるものではない。 実施例1 約1w/w%のタンタルを合金化したCo−Cr−Mo
のクーポンをチューブに入れクロムと酸化クロムを詰め
た。このチューブは、実質的に全ての酸素を除去すべく
排気し、シールした。チューブを炉に入れ、表2に示す
ように500〜800℃の温度である時間加熱した。次
いでチューブを室温に冷却した。この処理を各約1w/
w%のタンタルを添加したTi−13Nb−13Zr合
金(ZrとZrO2 を詰める)とTi−6Al−4V合
金(AlとAl2O3 を詰める)に適用し、表2の示し
た温度と時間で加熱した。所定条件下で内部酸化した3
つの合金についての嵩硬度、表面硬度、硬度グラジェン
ト深さを表2に示す。

有のCo−Cr−Mo合金についての表面硬度−深さ曲
線である。図2は700℃、20時間加熱した1w/w
%Ta含有のTi−6Al−4V合金の表面硬度−深さ
曲線である。表2に示したピーク硬度値は、必ずしも図
1〜3で示した曲線から得られるものほど大ではない。
これらの曲線を推定すると、直表面でより高い硬度を示
唆している。
ることは明らかであるが、金属元素の合金もセラミッ
ク、有機物などより金属的な意味で、金属とみなされ
る。従って、この明細書で、“金属移植具”と称したと
きには、セラミック、ポリマー又は複合物に対し、金属
合金で作った移植具も含まれる。さらに、この明細書と
請求項で、合金が金属溶質と組合されたとき、“溶質含
有合金”を形成する。所定組成の合金(市販品又は特別
に作られたもの)が特定された際には、その組成は、特
に断らない限り、金属溶質を含まない。そのため、請求
項では、金属移植具組成物は、(1)金属組成物と
(2)次いで加えられた金属溶質(これにより移植具本
体が作られる溶質含有合金となる)に関して特定されて
いる。
当業者に明らかな変形又は変更もこの発明に包含される
と理解さるべきである。

Claims (15)
- 【請求項1】 移植具本体が、Ti−6Al−4V,T
i−Mo,Ti−Al−Nb,Ti−Fe,Ti−V,
Zr,Zr−Nb,Ti−Nb,Ti−Nb−Zr,C
o−Cr−MoおよびFe−Cr−Ni−Moからなる
群より選択された金属と、前記金属と合金されるタンタ
ル、イットリウム、ハフニウム、トリウム、ジルコニウ
ム、クロム、ニオブ、アルミニウムおよびシリコンから
選択された易酸化性又は易窒化性金属溶質の2w/w%
以下からなり、その中で移植具本体表面での易酸化性又
は易窒化性溶質の実質的な割合が酸化又は窒化されて移
植具の表面を生体内での摩滅及び摩耗耐性の増大用に約
40ロックウエルCより大きな硬度に硬化されている移
植片本体を有する表面硬化した金属製医療用移植具。 - 【請求項2】 金属溶質が、金属と合金されるタンタ
ル、イットリウム、ハフニウム、トリウム、ジルコニウ
ム、クロム、ニオブおよびアルミニウムから選択された
易酸化性金属溶質である請求の範囲第1項による移植
具。 - 【請求項3】 金属溶質が、金属と合金されるシリコ
ン、トリウム、ジルコニウム、タンタルおよびアルミニ
ウムからなる群から選択された易窒化性金属溶質である
請求の範囲第1項による移植具。 - 【請求項4】 移植具が、窒素、酸素および炭素からな
る群から選択された元素を移植具本体表面の中又は下に
拡散させることにより細隙的に強化されている請求の範
囲第1項による移植具。 - 【請求項5】 移植具本体が、チタンとニオブからなる
組成を有する金属からなりかつ金属溶質がタンタル、ジ
ルコニウム、ハフニウム、クロムおよびアルミニウムか
らなる群より選択される請求の範囲第2項による移植
具。 - 【請求項6】 移植具本体が、チタン、ニオブおよびジ
ルコニウムからなる組成を有する金属からなりかつ金属
溶質がクロム、タンタル、イットリウムおよびアルミニ
ウムからなる群より選択される請求の範囲第2項による
移植具。 - 【請求項7】 移植具本体がチタニウム、アルミニウム
とバナジウムからなる組成の金属からなりかつ金属溶質
がタンタルである請求の範囲第2項による移植具。 - 【請求項8】 移植具本体がタンタルとニオブの組成の
金属からなりかつ金属溶質がタンタル、アルミニウムと
イットリウムからなる群から選択される請求の範囲第2
項による移植具。 - 【請求項9】 移植具本体がCo−Cr−Moからなり
かつ金属溶質がシリコンとトリウムからなる群から選択
される請求の範囲第3項による移植具。 - 【請求項10】 移植本体がチタン、ニオブとジルコニ
ウムからなる組成の金属からなりかつ金属溶質がトリウ
ムである請求の範囲第3項による移植具。 - 【請求項11】 移植具本体がCo−Cr−Moからな
りかつ金属溶質がシリコン、タンタル、トリウム、ジル
コニウム、チタンとアルミニウムからなる群より選択さ
れる請求の範囲第3項による移植具。 - 【請求項12】 移植具本体がチタン、アルミニウムと
バナジウムからなりかつ金属溶質がシリコンとトリウム
からなる群より選択される請求の範囲第3項による移植
具。 - 【請求項13】 移植具本体がCo−Cr−Moと易酸
化又は窒化性溶質として約1w/w%のタンタルからな
り、その移植具表面で実質的割合の金属溶質が約200
ミクロン以下の深さで酸化され移植具表面を少なくとも
約40ロックウエルCの硬度に強化・硬化している移植
具本体を有する請求の範囲第1項による移植具。 - 【請求項14】 約90w/w%のチタン、約6w/w
%のアルミニウム、約4w/w%のバナジウムと易酸化
性溶質として約1w/w%のタンタルからなり、移植具
の表面で実質的割合のタンタルが約200ミクロン以下
の深さに内部的に酸化され移植具の表面を少なくとも4
0ロックウエルCの硬度に強化・硬化されている請求の
範囲第1項による移植具。 - 【請求項15】 (1)イットリウム、ニオブ、タンタ
ル、ジルコニウム、トリウム、ハフニウム、クロムまた
はアルミニウムのような易酸化性溶質を低濃度で合金に
加え、金属表面の直下にある溶質の一部を酸化すること
を含む内部酸化工程、または(2)ジルコニウム、シリ
コンまたはタリウムのような易窒化性溶質を低レベルで
合金に加え、金属表面の直下にある溶質の一部を窒化す
ることを含む内部酸化工程、および(3)任意に、窒
素、酸素又は炭素を使用する付加的隙間的強化工程とか
らなる請求の範囲第1項による表面硬化した金属製医療
用移植具の製法。
