Description
【発明の詳細な説明】
本発明は光学繊維およびそれに関連する技術を
用いて化学的または物理的パラメーターの変化を
検出するためのセンサーに関する。

本発明は、化学的または物理的パラメーターの
変化を検出するためのセンサーを光学繊維を用い
て製造し、かくして極めて小型のセンサーを提供
することを一目的としている。本発明の別の一目
的は、そのような小型センサーを容易かつ経済的
に製造しうるようにすることである。本発明のさ
らに別の一目的は、高精度かつ迅速応答性のセン
サーを提供することである。
変化を検出するためのセンサーを光学繊維を用い
て製造し、かくして極めて小型のセンサーを提供
することを一目的としている。本発明の別の一目
的は、そのような小型センサーを容易かつ経済的
に製造しうるようにすることである。本発明のさ
らに別の一目的は、高精度かつ迅速応答性のセン
サーを提供することである。
このような目的及びその他の目的を達成するた
めに光学繊維自体をセンサーの主要構成部材とし
て採用することに伴なう、従来の光学繊維の一般
的な使用態様で経験されなかつた、感受性発色団
を繊維に如何に付着させるかが技術的課題であつ
た。

光学繊維は、薄い保護クラツド材で包囲された
透明なコアから本質的に構成されている。保護ク
ラツド材は、コアよりも低い屈折率の被覆の形態
であり、コア中に入れられた光がコア/クラツド
材界面で内部反射されながらコア内を繊維に沿つ
て透過される。コアは普通シリカ繊維であるが、
有機重合体のようなその他の材料も使用でき、コ
アにとつての必須の要件は使用される光の波長に
おいて透明であることである。

本発明のセンサーは慣用光学繊維に対して両端
部で接合することにより公知センンサーのように
使用でき、その場合に一端部は光源に結ばれ、ま
た他端部は検出器に結ばれ、かくして本発明のセ
ンサーは光学繊維の中間部をなす。センサーは、
中間部分にクラツド材を付けずに、その裸のまま
の部分内のコア表面に発色団を結合することによ
り、あるいは中間部分からクラツド材を除去して
前のようにその個所のコア表面に発色団を結合す
ることにより、最初から繊維線分の一体部分とし
て構成することもできる。しかしこの方式での感
応性部分の製造は必ずしも容易ではなく、殊に以
下に述べるような多孔質表面を用いる場合には容
易ではなく、従つてより一般的には、センサーを
別個に作るのが好ましく、例えば長い線分として
製造し、これを切断して個々の(幾つかの)セン
サーのための短節片を作るようにするのが好まし
い。

本発明のセンサーは、例えば工業用や医療用の
センサー・プローブの基本部分を形成するのに特
に適当である。そのようなプローブは、典型的に
はセンサーと、センサー中に光を射入しそしてそ
の光またはセンサーの少なくとも一部分を透過し
た後の変質(変性)光を捕集するための手段とを
含む。光をセンサーの一端で射入し、他端でそれ
を捕集することにより、光がセンサー内を一方向

端を反射性にし、他端から光を射入すると共に捕
集することにより、プローブが一個のターミナル
センサーをもつように構成できる。本発明のフア
イバーオプテイツク装置に用いることができる光
学繊維、および光学繊維をセンサーに結合する
種々の方法は、前述の通りである。

周囲環境との化学反応によつてパラメーターに
感受性の発色団は、その環境と直接に接触するこ
とが必然的に要求される。ほとんどの場合に、こ
のことはコアが均質であるかあるいは複合コアで
あるかに拘らず、コアの周囲での保護クラツド材
の使用を排除し、またこの場合にセンサーを形成
する繊維は、光を著しくは変化させずに(多少の
衰弱はある)、送るのに通常用いられる光学繊維
とは異なる。クラツド材が特定の環境を透過させ
うることが判明している場合であつても、下側層
に位置する発色団含有量への接近を限定すること
により応答時間を著しく長くすることがある(殊
に発色団含有層がそれ自体多孔質である場合にそ
うである)。
感受性の発色団は、その環境と直接に接触するこ
とが必然的に要求される。ほとんどの場合に、こ
のことはコアが均質であるかあるいは複合コアで
あるかに拘らず、コアの周囲での保護クラツド材
の使用を排除し、またこの場合にセンサーを形成
する繊維は、光を著しくは変化させずに(多少の

うることが判明している場合であつても、下側層
に位置する発色団含有量への接近を限定すること
により応答時間を著しく長くすることがある(殊

円形断面であり、これは一般的に製造するのが容
易かつ安価であり、またセンサーに光を入れセン
サーから光を受けるのに用いられる慣用光学繊維
の円形断面と釣合せが容易であり、かくして界面
での光の損失を少なくする。

当な光源および検出器にそれぞれ接続される。こ
のセンサーは両側の光学繊維のコアと、組成およ
び直径が実質的に同一の均質内側部分16を有し
ている。この内側部分の周囲には、多孔質ガラス
の外側層17があり、このものはシランカツプリ
ング剤でガラスに結合された発色団で処理されて

答が極めて迅速である。本発明のセンサーは、そ
の寸法(殊に直径)が小さいので、いずれの使用
場所でも、他の物事を妨害することなく、採用さ
れうる。発色団が化学的に結合されているのでセ
ンサー寿命が長い。

Claims (1)
- 【特許請求の範囲】 1 化学的または物理的パラメーターの変化を検
出するためのセンサーであつて、パラメーターに
対して感応性である発色団を化学的に結合した表
面をもつ化学繊維コアを有する上記センサー。 2 発色団を結合した表面は、多孔質物質の表面
でありかつそれらの細孔にその表面積の少なくと
もいく分かを内包している特許請求の範囲第1項
に記載のセンサー。 3 コアは、発色団が結合した多孔質層で包囲さ
れた非孔質部分よりなる特許請求の範囲第2項に
記載のセンサー。 4 多孔質層は非孔質部分と一体であり、実質上
非孔質の繊維をエツチング処理することにより形
成されたものである特許請求の範囲第3項に記載
のセンサー。 5 光学繊維のコアは、多孔質物質の層で包囲さ
れかつその層と緊密に接触している非孔質物質か
らなる複合体である特許請求の範囲第3項に記載
のセンサー。 6 発色団は、その色がパラメーターに感応する
染料分子である特許請求の範囲第1〜5項のいず
れかに記載のセンサー。 7 パラメーターはPHである特許請求の範囲第6
項に記載のセンサー。 8 発色団を結合する表面をなす物質は、ケイ酸
塩ガラスであり、発色団はガラスに対して反応性
の基および発色団と反応性である基を有する中間
体シランカツプリング剤を用いてガラスに結合さ
れている特許請求の範囲第1〜7項のいずれかに
記載のセンサー。 9 発色団はトリアジン環を介してシランカツプ
リング剤に結合された染料分子である特許請求の
範囲第8項に記載のセンサー。 10 化学的または物理的パラメーターの変化を
検出するためのセンサーであつて、パラメーター
に対して感応性である発色団を化学的に結合した
表面をもつ光学繊維コアを有する上記センサー
と; 上記センサー中へ光を入射し、その光またはセ
ンサーの少なくとも一部分内を透過した後の変質
光を捕集するためのフアイバーオプテイツク手段
と;を有する感受性フアイバーオプテイツク・プ
ローブ。
