  1. 【実用新案登録請求の範囲】 絶縁性基板上に形成されたゲート電極と、この
    ゲート電極を被覆するゲート絶縁膜と、このゲー
    ト絶縁膜上の前記ゲート電極と対向する位置に形
    成された半導体膜と、前記ゲート絶縁膜上に所定
    距離隔てて形成されたソース電極及びドレイン電
    極と、これらソース電極及びドレイン電極及びド
    レイン電極と前記半導体膜を電気的に接続するコ
    ンタクト層とを有する薄膜トランジスタにおいて
    、 前記コンタクト層は、前記ソース電極の前記ド
    レイン電極と対向する側面部及び前記ドレイン電
    極の前記ソース電極と対向する側面部に接触して
    形成され、前記半導体膜は少なくとも前記ソース
    電極の側面部及び前記ドレイン電極の側面部に形
    成された前記コンタクト層間の前記ゲート絶縁膜
    上に形成されていることを特徴とする薄膜トラン
    ジスタ。
