The
The
The

The pair of end plates 10 are made of metal such as stainless steel (SUS) and titanium (Ti), for example. The thickness of each end plate 10 is, for example, 1 to 30 mm, although it is not particularly limited. By setting the thickness of the end plate 10 to 1 mm or more, it is possible to avoid significant deterioration in workability. Further, by setting the thickness of the end plate 10 to 30 mm or less, an increase in cost can be suppressed. One

The hydride and organic hydride used in this embodiment are not particularly limited as long as they are organic compounds that can add/desorb hydrogen by reversibly causing a hydrogenation/dehydrogenation reaction, and include acetone-isopropanol.

Therefore, according to the organic
Next, the
For example, by coating a part of the constituent material of the
Alternatively, by providing a water-repellent fine structure such as a fractal structure in a part of the constituent material of the
Further, the hydrophilicity of the
Further, the
The highly
The highly
When an electrode reaction occurs in the organic
On the other hand, the movement of water from the
That is, the
The low
The water droplets dispersed in the low
In other words, the low
In this way, by imparting water repellency to the region of the
Further, by arranging the low
In particular, in the organic

As explained above, the organic

A 5% Nafion (registered trademark) dispersion (manufactured by DuPont) was added to powder of PtRu/C catalyst TEC61E54 (manufactured by Tanaka Kikinzoku Kogyo Co., Ltd.), and a catalyst ink for the cathode catalyst layer was prepared using an appropriate solvent. The Nafion/carbon ratio of the catalyst ink was 0.3. Further, the amount of noble metal (the amount of PtRu) was adjusted to be 1.0 mg/cm 2 . Further, as an electrolyte membrane, Nafion (registered trademark) 117 (manufactured by DuPont) with a thickness of 175 μm was prepared. Then, a catalyst ink was spray applied to this electrolyte membrane. Thereafter, the solvent component in the catalyst ink was dried by heating at 80° C. to obtain an electrolyte membrane on which a cathode catalyst layer was laminated.
A mixed aqueous solution of iridium tetrachloride/tantalum pentoxide was applied to the expanded metal, and heat treated at 550°C in an electric furnace. This operation was repeated multiple times to obtain an anode electrode containing equal moles of iridium oxide and tantalum oxide. The amount of catalyst in the anode electrode was 12 g/m 2 per electrode area in terms of Ir metal amount.
A carbon paper having a thickness of 250 μm was subjected to water repellent treatment as described below to produce a low hydrophilic member that forms a low hydrophilic region in the diffusion layer. That is, a 250 μm thick carbon paper was immersed in an aqueous PTFE dispersion containing a small amount of surfactant for a certain period of time, and then taken out and dried. This process was repeated several times so that the weight ratio of PTFE was uniformly 5 wt % throughout the carbon paper. Thereafter, the carbon paper was placed in an inert atmosphere at 340° C. for 15 minutes to sinter the PTFE and remove unnecessary surfactant. Through the above water repellent treatment, a low hydrophilic member was obtained. In addition, carbon paper having a thickness of 250 μm was subjected to hydrophilic treatment as described below to produce a highly hydrophilic member that forms a highly hydrophilic region in the diffusion layer. That is, a 250 μm thick carbon paper was immersed in a 63 g/L nitric acid aqueous solution at 60° C. for 1 hour. Thereafter, the carbon paper was taken out, washed with pure water, and dried in a drying oven at 70° C. for 3 hours. A highly hydrophilic member was obtained by the above hydrophilic treatment. A diffusion layer was prepared by laminating the obtained low hydrophilic member and highly hydrophilic member.

In addition, two spacers made of Viton (registered trademark) were prepared.

Ta. When stacking each member, the posture of the diffusion layer was determined so that the low hydrophilic member was placed on the cathode catalyst layer side and the highly hydrophilic member was placed on the end plate side. The effective electrode area of the organic hydride manufacturing apparatus was 100 cm 2 .

(Experiment example 4)
An organic hydride production apparatus of Experimental Example 4 was produced in the same manner as Experimental Example 1, except that the diffusion layer was produced by laminating two highly hydrophilic members.
In the organic hydride production apparatus of each experimental example, toluene was passed through the supply channel of the cathode end plate as a catholyte. Further, a 100 g/L sulfuric acid aqueous solution was passed through the supply channel of the anode end plate as an anode solution. The flow rate of the catholyte and anolyte was 20 mL/min. Then, the negative electrode of the constant current power source was connected to the cathode, and the positive electrode was connected to the anode, and an output current was applied to carry out an electrolytic reaction at a temperature of 60° C. and a current density of 0.4 A/cm 2 . In addition, the electrolytic voltage of each organic hydride manufacturing apparatus at that time was measured. The results are shown in Figure 3.
FIG. 3 is a diagram showing the relationship between electrolysis time and electrolysis voltage. As shown in FIG. 3, in the organic hydride production apparatus of Experimental Example 1 in which the low hydrophilic region was arranged on the cathode catalyst layer side and the high hydrophilic region was arranged on the end plate side, the entire diffusion layer was in the low hydrophilic region. Experimental Example 2, in which the highly hydrophilic region is arranged on the cathode catalyst layer side, Experimental Example 3, in which the low hydrophilic region is arranged on the end plate side, and Experimental Example 4, in which the entire diffusion layer is a highly hydrophilic region. Compared to each organic hydride production device, the increase in electrolysis voltage was suppressed. From this, it was confirmed that by arranging the low hydrophilic region on the cathode catalyst layer side and the highly hydrophilic region on the end plate side, it is possible to suppress an increase in the electrolytic voltage of the organic hydride production apparatus.
