Description
一例では、入力画像素子から与えられた画像変調光を、導波管を通じて導光させる表示装置が開示されている。
第1主面と、前記第1主面の反対側に位置する第2主面と、を有する第1透明基板と、前記第2主面に対向する第3主面を有する第2透明基板と、前記第1透明基板と前記第2透明基板との間に設けられ、マトリクス状に配列された画素と、前記第2主面と前記第3主面との間に位置し、前記マトリクス状に配列された画素を途切れることなく囲うシールと、前記第2主面と前記第3主面との間において前記シールによって封止され、ポリマー及び液晶分子を含む高分子分散型液晶層と、第1端部を有し、前記第1主面に接着された第3透明基板と、前記第1主面側に位置し、前記第1端部に対向する第1光源と、を備えた表示装置が提供される。
図6は、表示装置DSPの比較例を示す断面図である。図示した比較例は、図4に示した本実施形態の構成例と比較して、光源EMが主面10B側に位置している点で相違している。光源EMは、延出部Exにおいて、接着層50によりシールSEとICチップ1との間に接着されている。光源EMは、シールSE、端部E21及びE41のそれぞれに対向している。出射面EFから出射された光は、シールSE、端部E21及び端部E41にそれぞれ入射される。
図7は、本実施形態の表示装置DSPの変形例を示す断面図である。図示した変形例は、図4に示した構成例と比較して、表示装置DSPが、さらに、光源EM2を備えている点で相違している。光源EM2は、光源EM1と同様の発光ダイオード(LED)である。光源EM2は、配線基板F2と電気的に接続されている。光源EM2から出射される光は、第2方向Yを示す矢印とは逆向きに沿って進行する。
Claims (9)
- 第1主面と、前記第1主面の反対側に位置する第2主面と、を有する第1ガラス基板と、
前記第2主面に対向する第3主面を有する第2ガラス基板と、
前記第1ガラス基板と前記第2ガラス基板との間に設けられ、マトリクス状に配列された画素と、
前記第2主面と前記第3主面との間に位置し、前記マトリクス状に配列された画素を途切れることなく囲うシールと、
前記第2主面と前記第3主面との間において前記シールによって封止され、ポリマー及び液晶分子を含む高分子分散型液晶層と、
第1端部を有し、前記第1主面に接着された第3ガラス基板と、
前記第1主面側に位置し、前記第1端部に対向する第1光源と、
前記第2主面と前記高分子分散型液晶層との間に位置するスイッチング素子と、
前記第2主面と前記高分子分散型液晶層との間に位置し、前記スイッチング素子と電気的に接続された画素電極と、
前記第3主面と前記高分子分散型液晶層との間に位置し、前記画素電極と対向する共通電極と、
前記シールの外側において前記第2主面上に位置する信号源と、
第4ガラス基板と、
を備え、
前記第1光源は、前記第1ガラス基板を挟んで、前記信号源に重畳し、
前記第2ガラス基板は、前記第3主面の反対側に位置する第4主面を有し、
前記第4ガラス基板は、前記第4主面に接着され、
前記第3ガラス基板は、前記第2ガラス基板及び前記第4ガラス基板のそれぞれの厚さの総和よりも厚い、表示装置。 - 前記第3ガラス基板は、前記第1ガラス基板及び前記第2ガラス基板のいずれよりも厚い、請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記第1ガラス基板と前記第3ガラス基板との間、及び、前記第2ガラス基板と前記第4ガラス基板との間には、偏光板が存在しない、請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記第3ガラス基板は、前記第1ガラス基板とは反対側に第5主面を有し、
前記第4ガラス基板は、前記第2ガラス基板とは反対側に第6主面を有し、
前記第5主面及び前記第6主面は、空気に接している、請求項3に記載の表示装置。 - 前記第1光源は、前記第1主面に接着されている、請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- さらに、前記第1光源と電気的に接続された配線基板を備え、
前記第1光源は、前記第1ガラス基板と前記配線基板との間に位置する請求項5に記載の表示装置。 - 前記ポリマーは、筋状に延出し、
前記第1光源は、前記ポリマーの延出方向に沿って並んでいる、請求項1乃至6のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。 - さらに、第2光源を備え、
前記第3ガラス基板は、前記第1端部の反対側に位置する第2端部を有し、
前記第2光源は、前記第1主面側に位置し、前記第2端部に対向している、請求項1乃至7のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。 - 前記シールは、紫外線硬化性樹脂によってループ状に形成されている、請求項1乃至8のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
