Description
A.高密度ポリエチレン(HDPE)と、
B.造核成分であって、
(1)シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸金属塩と、
(2)金属炭酸塩、金属酸化物、脂肪族もしくは芳香族のモノ−もしくはジカルボン酸の金属塩、C8〜C24飽和脂肪酸、結晶質シリカ(石英)、C1〜C18安息香酸アルキル、ジベンジリデンソルビトールおよび誘導体、2,6−ナフタレンジカルボキシアミド、ポリビニルシクロヘキサン、高結晶性ポリプロピレン(HCPP)、分岐状ポリプロピレン、ならびにそれらの組み合わせから成る群から選択される造核剤と、から本質的に成る、造核成分と、を含む、組成物である。
別段の記載がある場合、文脈から黙示的である場合、または当技術分野において慣例的である場合を除き、全ての部分およびパーセントは重量に基づく。米国特許の慣例を目的として、いかなる参照特許、特許出願、または刊行物の内容も、特に合成技術、生成物および加工設計、ポリマー、触媒、定義(本開示において明確に提供されるいかなる定義とも矛盾しない限り)、ならびに当技術分野における一般知識の開示に関して、参照によりそれらの全体が組み込まれる(またはその均等の米国版が参照により組み込まれる)。
本発明は、任意選択の添加剤/充填剤を有し、押出成形された構成要素の曲げ弾性率、衝撃強度、グリース耐性、および低減された(低い)収縮率のバランスを提供するために有効な量で存在する、高密度ポリエチレン(HDPE)と造核成分との押出成形可能なブレンド物から製造される、押出成形された光ケーブル保護用構成要素を対象とする。
ポリマーブレンド組成物は、高密度ポリエチレン(HDPE)ポリマーを含む。本明細書において使用される場合、「高密度ポリエチレン」ポリマーおよび「HDPE」ポリマーという用語は、0.940g/cm3を超える密度を有するエチレンのホモポリマーまたはコポリマーを指す。
HDPEポリマーは、本明細書に記載の化合物の選択群の第2の造核剤(互換的に「二次的造核剤」と呼ばれる)のうちの1つ以上と組み合わされたシクロヘキサンジカルボン酸金属塩から本質的に成る、造核成分とブレンドされる。
本組成物は、抗酸化剤、加工助剤、充填剤、顔料または着色剤、結合剤、紫外線安定剤(UV吸収剤を含む)、粘着付与剤、焦げ防止剤、帯電防止剤、スリップ剤、可塑剤、潤滑剤、粘度制御剤、ブロッキング防止剤、界面活性剤、伸展油、掃酸剤、金属不活性化剤、および同様のものを含むがこれらに限定されない添加剤を、任意選択的に含有し得る。存在する場合、添加剤は典型的に、本組成物の全重量に基づいて、0.01重量%以下〜10重量%以上の範囲の量で使用される。添加剤は、未希釈で、またはマスターバッチの一部として添加され得る。
本発明のポリマー組成物は、任意の好適な方法によって生成され得る。例えば、造核剤および任意の添加剤を、HDPEポリマーを含有する溶融物に添加することができる。HDPEと造核成分とのこのような化合は、例えば、Banbury混合器またはBolling内部混合器などの内部バッチ式混合器を使用してブレンドすることによって行うことができる。あるいは、Farrel連続混合器、Werner and Pfleiderer二軸混合器、またはBuss混練連続押出成形機などの、連続単軸もしくは二軸混合器を使用してよい。造核成分は、単独で、またはHDPEポリマーおよび任意選択的に1つ以上の添加剤を含有するマスターバッチの形態で、HDPEポリマー組成物中に導入され得る。
光ファイバケーブルは、典型的に、ポリマーの保護コーティングをその上に有し得る光伝送ファイバを初めに製造すること、およびファイバを束もしくはリボン状ケーブル構成物に組み立てること、またはケーブル製造にファイバを直接組み込むことを含む、一連の製造ステップにおいて製造される。典型的に、ポリマー組成物は、ケーブルコーティングダイを備えた反応器−押出成形機内で調製され、本組成物の成分が配合された後、ケーブルがダイを介して引かれるにつれて本組成物がケーブル上に押出される。バッファーチューブおよびコアチューブの場合には典型的に、1つ以上の光ファイバまたはファイバアセンブリおよびグリースが、ワイヤおよびケーブルのクロスヘッドの後部に供給され、溶融した管状構成要素内でクロスヘッドを出て、これが次に、例えば、水系において冷却されて凝固する。
以下の材料を実施例に使用した。
DGDL−3364 NTは、The Dow Chemical Companyから入手可能な、0.945g/cm3の密度、0.80g/10分(190℃/2.16kg)の溶融指数(MI、I2)、および22.1MPa(3,400psi)の引張強度を有する、高分子量のUnipol気相単峰性HDPEである。
DGDA−7590 NTは、The Dow Chemical Companyから入手可能な、0.949g/cm3の密度、0.08g/10分(190℃/2.16kg)の溶融指数、24.8MPa(3,600psi)の引張強度(収率)(ASTM D638)、および1,030MPaの曲げ弾性率(ASTM D790)を有する、Unipol気相二峰性HDPEである。
DMDA−1250 NTは、CONTINUUM(商標)DMDA−1250 NT 7としてThe Dow Chemical Companyから入手可能な、0.955g/cm3の密度、1.5g/10分(190℃/2.16kg)の溶融指数、23.5MPa(3,410psi)の引張強度(収率)(ASTM D638)、および1,680MPaの曲げ弾性率(2%割線)(ASTM D790)を有する、Unipol気相二峰性HDPEである。
HPN−20Eは、商品名Hyperform(登録商標)HPN−20Eの下でMilliken Chemicals,Spartanburg,S.Cから入手可能な、ステアリン酸亜鉛(造核剤)を有する1,2−シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸カルシウム塩である。
NA−27は、Adeka Corporationから市販されている、リン酸エステル化合物混合物(造核剤)である。
NA−11は、Adeka Corporationから入手可能な、2,2−メチレンビス(4,6−ジ−tert−ブチルフェニル)リン酸ナトリウム塩(造核剤)である。
G−2Tは、商品名Hubercarb(登録商標)G2Tの下でHuber Engineered Materialsから入手可能な、微粒子大の炭酸カルシウム(CaCO3)である。
R−104は、DuPontから商品名Ti−Pure(登録商標)R−104の下で入手可能な、ルチル型二酸化チタン(TiO2)顔料である。
AG609は、商品名MICROTUFF(登録商標)AG609の下でSpecialty Minerals Inc.,Bethlehem,Paから入手可能な、タルクである。
商業的な単峰性HDPE(DGDL−3364 NT)とHPN−20造核剤(1,2−シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸カルシウム塩)とのブレンド物を、表1に示す通りに配合し、ワイヤ上に押出し、収縮率を試験した。
単峰性HDPE(DGDL−3364 NT)と、表2に列記した造核剤(HPN−20、NA−27、NA−11、G−2T)とのブレンド物を調製し、実施例1に記載の通りに収縮率を試験した。
単峰性HDPE(DGDL−3364 NT)と、表3に示す通り列記した造核剤(HPN−20、NA−27、NA−11、G−2T)を有する2つの二峰性HDPEポリマー(DGDA−7590 NT、DMDA−1250 NT)とのブレンド物を調製し、実施例1に記載の通りに収縮率を試験した。
単峰性HDPE(DGDL−3364 NT)と、表4に示すHPN−20および/またはG−2T(CaCO3)造核剤とのブレンド物を調製し、実施例1に記載の通りに収縮率を試験した。
単峰性HDPE(DGDL−3364 NT)と、表5に示す造核剤とのブレンド物を調製し、実施例1に記載の通りに収縮率を試験した。
Claims (9)
- 光ファイバ保護用組成物であって、
A.0.94g/ccを超える密度を有する高密度ポリエチレン(HDPE)と、
B.造核成分であって、
(1)シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸金属塩と、
(2)金属炭酸塩、金属酸化物、脂肪族もしくは芳香族のモノもしくはジカルボン酸の金属塩、C8〜C24飽和脂肪酸、結晶質シリカ(石英)、C1〜C18安息香酸アルキル、ジベンジリデンソルビトールおよび誘導体、2,6−ナフタレンジカルボキシアミド、ポリビニルシクロヘキサン、高結晶性ポリプロピレン(HCPP)、分岐状ポリプロピレン、ならびにそれらの組み合わせから成る群から選択される造核剤と、から本質的に成る、造核成分と、
を含む、光ファイバ保護用組成物。 - 前記造核成分は、7〜10重量%の前記シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸金属塩と、90〜93重量%の前記造核剤と、から本質的に成り、前記シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸金属塩および前記造核剤の前記重量百分率(重量%)は、前記造核成分の全重量に基づく、請求項1に記載の組成物。
- 前記シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸金属塩は、1,2−シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸カルシウム塩(1:1)または(2:1)、1,2−シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸ナトリウム塩(1:2)(1R,2S)−rel−、1,4−シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸ナトリウム塩(1:2)トランス−、1,2−シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸ナトリウム塩(1:2)、1,3−シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸ナトリウム塩(1:2)、および1,4−シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸ナトリウム塩(1:2)から成る群から選択される、請求項1に記載の組成物。
- 前記造核剤は、炭酸カルシウム、炭酸マグネシウム、石灰石、二酸化チタン、酸化アルミニウム、酸化亜鉛から成る群から選択される、請求項1に記載の組成物。
- 前記造核剤は、酢酸金属塩、ステアリン酸金属塩、安息香酸金属塩、ピメリン酸金属塩、およびスベリン酸金属塩から成る群から選択される脂肪族もしくは芳香族のモノもしくはジカルボン酸の金属塩である、請求項1に記載の組成物。
- 押出成形された前記組成物の1日の収縮率(21℃における)は、同じ配合を有するが、前記造核成分を含まないか、または前記シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸金属塩成分もしくは前記二次的造核剤のいずれか1つを含まない押出成形された組成物より、15〜30%低い、請求項1に記載の組成物。
- A.0.94g/ccを超える密度を有する高密度ポリエチレン(HDPE)と、
B.造核成分であって、
(1)シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸金属塩と、
(2)金属炭酸塩、金属酸化物、脂肪族もしくは芳香族のモノもしくはジカルボン酸の金属塩、C8〜C24飽和脂肪酸、結晶質シリカ(石英)、C1〜C18安息香酸アルキル、ジベンジリデンソルビトールおよび誘導体、2,6−ナフタレンジカルボキシアミド、ポリビニルシクロヘキサン、高結晶性ポリプロピレン(HCPP)、分岐状ポリプロピレン、ならびにそれらの組み合わせから成る群から選択される造核剤と、から本質的に成る、造核成分と、
を含む、組成物から作製される光ファイバケーブルのためのバッファーチューブ。 - A.0.94g/ccを超える密度を有する高密度ポリエチレン(HDPE)と、
B.造核成分であって、
(1)シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸金属塩と、
(2)金属炭酸塩、金属酸化物、脂肪族もしくは芳香族のモノもしくはジカルボン酸の金属塩、C8〜C24飽和脂肪酸、結晶質シリカ(石英)、C1〜C18安息香酸アルキル、ジベンジリデンソルビトールおよび誘導体、2,6−ナフタレンジカルボキシアミド、ポリビニルシクロヘキサン、高結晶性ポリプロピレン(HCPP)、分岐状ポリプロピレン、ならびにそれらの組み合わせから成る群から選択される造核剤と、から本質的に成る、造核成分と、
を含む、組成物から作製される光ファイバケーブルのためのバッファーチューブであって、前記シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸金属塩は、1,2−シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸カルシウム塩(1:1)または(2:1)、1,2−シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸ナトリウム塩(1:2)(1R,2S)−rel−、1,4−シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸ナトリウム塩(1:2)トランス−、1,2−シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸ナトリウム塩(1:2)、1,3−シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸ナトリウム塩(1:2)、および1,4−シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸ナトリウム塩(1:2)から成る群から選択される、バッファーチューブ。 - ポリマーバッファーチューブにおけるファイバ余長を低減する方法であって、
A.0.94g/ccを超える密度を有する高密度ポリエチレン(HDPE)と、
B.造核成分であって、
(1)シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸金属塩と、
(2)金属炭酸塩、金属酸化物、脂肪族もしくは芳香族のモノもしくはジカルボン酸の金属塩、C8〜C24飽和脂肪酸、結晶質シリカ(石英)、C1〜C18安息香酸アルキル、ジベンジリデンソルビトールおよび誘導体、2,6−ナフタレンジカルボキシアミド、ポリビニルシクロヘキサン、高結晶性ポリプロピレン(HCPP)、分岐状ポリプロピレン、ならびにそれらの組み合わせから成る群から選択される造核剤と、から本質的に成る、造核成分と、
を含む、組成物から前記バッファーチューブを押出成形することを含む、方法。
