Description
1立方フィートあたり110ポンドのバルク密度と、3.63の比重と、90%が100メッシュを通過する粒子径とを有する、処理された菱鉄鉱合成物についての分析結果は以下の通りである。
60mlの1M KOH溶液からなるブランク(blank)コースティック溶液を、カラス製バブラに導入した。サンプルは、室温且つ大気圧下であった。窒素(N2)キャリア中のH2Sが6000ppm(parts per million)である(6000ppmのH2S/N2)20sccm(standard cubic centimeters per minute)の流れを、バブラのコースティック溶液中を通過させた。これは、20LHSVの空間速度をもたらす。出口ガスを、吸収されたH2Sの量を定量化するためにガスクロマトグラフ(GC)によって計測した。ブランクコースティック溶液を76時間にわたって流した後、H2Sの漏出(breakthrough)を示した。
1グラムの菱鉄鉱(主にFe3O4)を、磁気攪拌機を用いて60mlの1M水酸化カリウム溶液中で撹拌することで懸濁させて、固体粒子の色が薄茶色から黒に変わるまで、40乃至50°Cの温度で加熱した。これには、約10乃至20分の時間を要した。攪拌を停止すると、黒い粒子がフラスコの底に沈殿し、透明な液相がその上に現れた。それらは、磁気的性質に起因して、攪拌が行われていないと磁気攪拌機の棒の周りに凝集した。結果として得られた懸濁液は、図2に示すように、透過型電子顕微鏡を用いて分析された。このことは、粒子たちが、概ね5乃至10ナノメートルの範囲にあることを実証した。これは、大きな粒子が反応して、安定な酸化鉄(II)及び/又は水酸化鉄(II)が生成されただけでなく、分解もされて鉄ナノ粒子が形成されたことを証拠立てる。
実施例2に記載したものと同じ方法で準備された10mlの吸着剤の2回目の追加が、実施例2にて漏出に達した後に、バブラ内の使用済みのコースティック溶液に加えられた。参考実施例1に記載した手順によって、6000ppmのH2S/N2を、再び懸濁液を通過させて、システムにH2Sの吸着を再び開始させた。このケースでは、吸着剤の寿命は漏出前の10時間であって、初回よりも短いことに注目することが重要である。その結果として、OH−とFe2+のモル比率は好ましくは、少なくとも4乃至6:1であるべきと考えられる。理論に拘束されるものではないが、この比率は、菱鉄鋼に含まれる炭酸鉄を鉄酸化物/水酸化物に変換させることに加えて、それを安定化させて、その後H2Sを吸着できるようにするのに十分なコースティックを可能にすると、現在のところ考えられる。比率がより低いと、コースティックは菱鉄鋼と反応できるかも知れないが、H2Sの吸収に関して長い寿命を示さないだろう。加えて、実施例2と実施例3の間の数日間にわたってアルカリ溶液が空気に曝された状態に置かれていたという事実もまた、実施例3に示された吸着剤の寿命の低減という結果をもたらしたであろう。理論に拘束されるものではないが、アルカリ溶液の数日間にわたる空気への暴露が、CO2を吸収して炭酸カリウムを生じ、OH−濃度を減少させるという結果をもたらしたであろう。その後、溶液のコースティックの定量化のために、実施例2及び実施例3における使用済みの吸着剤の液相についてHClを用いた滴定が行われた。滴定の間、気泡が生じて、液体から放出され続けた。腐った卵の匂いを放っていたことから、ガスはH2Sと特定された。加えて、滴定の間、使用済み触媒の色は、明るい灰黄色から明るい緑色に変化した。これは、塩化鉄(II)(FeCl2)が形成されていたことを示唆している。このことは、当初の黒色触媒が鉄(II)種を含んでいたことをさらに証明する。
上記のように、安定な酸化鉄(II)及び/又は水酸化鉄(II)が水に曝されると、粒子の色は、黒から茶色へ自然に変化した。Schikorr反応を受けて、水酸化鉄(II)が水に曝されると、Fe3O4が形成される。これらの鉄種の吸収能を調べるために、60ミリリットルの水と、実施例2に基づいて生成された1Mアルカリ溶液の安定な酸化鉄(II)及び/又は水酸化鉄(II)の5mlとをバブラに加えた。そして、6000ppmのH2S/N2を20sccmでバブラに送って、サンプルは、H2Sの漏出がGCを用いて出口ガスにて検出する前に約6時間に亘って持続した。サンプルのpHは、吸収前は12.6であり、吸収後は9.6であった。このケースにおける使用済みサンプルの色は緑色であって、底に黒い沈殿も見られた。このケースにて、KOHの初期濃度と吸収時間との間の線形相関を再び仮定すると、5mlの1M KOHは、漏出前の6時間の間持続すると予想されるだろう。それ故、Fe3O4のナノ粒子は、何らH2S吸収能を示さないように見える。KOHの濃度と寿命との線形相関に関する証拠が存在しないということを考慮することは重要である。それ故、Fe3O4のナノ粒子の吸収能の理解のためにより多くの実験が必要である。硫黄の吸収に向かう水酸化鉄(II)の反応性は、酸化鉄(II)の反応性よりも高いと、現在のところ考えられている。
KOHの代わりに20%(3.6M)のNaOH溶液を用いて、実施例1を繰り返した。実施例1で記載したように、吸収されたH2Sの定量のために、GCによって出口ガスを測定した。このケースでは、H2Sの吸着の間、硫化ナトリウム(Na2S)や二硫化ナトリウム(NaHS)のような溶解性の低いナトリウム塩が生成されて、バブラの底に堆積し続けたことは、このプロセスを商業的に機能させるのを困難にすることに言及するのは重要である。図3は、バブラにて生成及び集積した塩を示す。700時間を要した7グラムの硫黄の吸着の後、溶液の全ては固体に変換され、それ以上システムを運転することはできなかった。それ故に、本発明の吸着剤のさらなる利益は、合成物を扱うのを難しくないようにすることである。
米国特許第7,744,841号及び第7,943,105号の教示によって、粉末化された菱鉄鋼を、成形された粒子を生産するために、結合剤及び水と混合した。最終生産物を、その後乾燥し、350°Cで焼成した。菱鉄鋼の淡い茶色っぽい(pale brownish)色は、図4に示すように焼成の後に深い赤色に変化する。それから、層の長さ対層の直径の比率が10乃至20である水晶管反応器(quartz tubular reactor)を、40乃至50グラムのサンプルで満たした。これは、34乃至48グラムの鉄に相当しており、5乃至15%である結合剤の正確な濃度に依存する。H2S/N2が6000ppmである40sccmの流れを層に通過させて、40GHSVの速度となった。実施例1に記載のように、吸着されたH2Sの定量のために、GCによって出口ガスを測定した。250乃至500時間の間では、出口ガスにおいてH2Sの漏出は観測されなかった。漏出時の吸着剤の硫黄負荷は、サンプルの特性に依存するが、10乃至15%(鉄含有量に対して25乃至50%)になると計算された。
実施例2において生産されたアルカリ媒体中の安定な酸化鉄(II)及び/又は水酸化鉄(II)を、アルミナやアタパルジャイトのような不活性担体(inert supports)に含浸するのに使用した。実施例2において生産された黒い鉄の沈殿物は、乾燥重量で40:60の比率でアルミナに含浸した。含浸担体のサンプルは、その後様々な温度で焼成され、最終生産物の色は、焼成温度に依存して異なっており、灰色から暗いピンクがかがった茶色まで変化した。図5は、室温と、200°C、400°C及び650°Cで焼成された後の含浸アルミナを示している。図5に示すように、安定な酸化鉄(II)及び/又は水酸化鉄(II)が含浸された全てのアルミナのサンプルは、実施例6の炭酸鉄(II)とは外観が異なっている。事前吸収実験は、アルミナ担体の酸化鉄(II)及び/又は水酸化鉄(II)は、高いGHSVにて、図2に示した液体の吸着剤に比較して低い硫黄吸収能を有することを示唆する。しかしながら、高濃度のカリウムが吸着剤の吸収能を妨げて、減少させていた可能性はある。このように、アルミナのような異なるアルカリ媒体を用いることで、高い硫黄容量をもたらしてよい。
界面活性剤、コロイド、及びポリマーのような様々な媒体を使用して、アルカリ溶液における酸化鉄(II)及び/又は水酸化鉄(II)の懸濁を助けた。現時点における望ましい媒体は、架橋性アクリル酸ホモポリマーである。架橋性アクリル酸ホモポリマーのサンプルを、アルカリ溶液又は水の何れかと混合させる一方で、それにN2を流した。アルカリ安定化された酸化鉄(II)及び/又は水酸化鉄(II)を含む黒色の沈殿物のサンプルを、各サンプルに加えると、黒色のゲルとなった。両方のサンプルにおいて、黒色のゲルに見えるサンプルは、色を変えず、又は、その後沈殿しなかった。これは、架橋性アクリル酸ホモポリマーのような種々の媒体を使用して、安定化された酸化鉄(II)及び/又は水酸化鉄(II)がアルカリ溶液中に懸濁し続けるのを助けることができることを示唆している。
実施例2を繰り返したが、約8Mに相当する高い濃度のKOH(45%)を使用し、KOH対鉄のモル比率を6:1とした。このケースでは、40乃至50°Cの温度での10乃至20分の加熱の後、そして、磁気攪拌の停止の後、液相は、実施例2において見られたような透明ではなく、緑色になった。この緑色の液相は時間と共に安定し、12.6のpHを有していた。理論に拘束されるものではないが、アルカリ濃度を増加することによって、実施例2と比べてより多くの菱鉄鉱が反応し、この実施例の水酸化鉄(II)はさらに小さな粒子サイズを有し、この懸濁液を安定化させると考えられる。単に、反応の度合いが、この実施例におけるものと同じ程度ではなかったことから、実施例2において、緑色は色あせていて目立っていなかったのであろう。典型的な水酸化鉄粒子は、粒子サイズが大きすぎるため、アルカリ溶液では懸濁できない。しかしながら、新しい本発明のプロセスにより生産された水酸化鉄の粒子は、それらのサイズがナノスケール領域にあるため、懸濁液中に懸濁すると共に安定なままで残る。図6は、容器の底の固体と分離された後の液相の写真を示す。
以下の実施例を、本発明における初期状態又は未使用の鉄(II)の安定な溶液によるエチルメルカプタンの吸収を調査するために行った。各々同じ量(約50ml)のミネラルスピリットを溶媒として含むA、B及びCの3つのバイアルが用意された。約1mlの1M KOHがバイアルBに加えられ、実施例2に記載の手順に従って調製された約1mlの安定な酸化鉄(II)及び/又は水酸化鉄(II)をバイアルCに加えた。そして、バイアルA、B及びCの各々に、同じ体積(約0.3ml)の純粋なエチルメルカプタンを加えた。メルカプタンの吸収を助けるためにバイアルB及びCにおいて個別に混合を行った後に、3つのサンプルの臭気を比較した。サンプルAは、メルカプタンの特有の臭いを有していた。サンプルBの臭いは、サンプルAのものより穏やかであったが、サンプルCのものほどは穏やかではなかった。エチルメルカプタンの量を定量するために、サンプルA、B及びCの有機相をガスクロマトグラフに注入した。サンプルA及びBは、3000ppmの範囲の値で非常に似たエチルメルカプタンの濃度を示した。これに対して、サンプルCは、当初のメルカプタンの濃度の略半分の値(1700ppm)であって、エチルメルカプタンの約45%の減少を示した。メチルメルカプタンは、第一鉄を伴う水硫化物錯体(hydro-sulfided complex)について以前から提案されていた構造と似た第一鉄メルカプチドを形成すると考えられる。これは、本発明の吸着剤が、硫化水素に加えてメルカプタンの吸収においても単純なコースティックよりも優れていることを証明する。
1グラムの菱鉄鉱(主にFeCO3)を、磁気攪拌器を用いて、60mlの1M KOH中で撹拌して懸濁させて、固体粒子の色が明るい茶色から黒色に変わるまで40乃至50°Cで加熱した。その後、サンプルをバブラに導入して、窒素(N2)をキャリアとする6000ppm(parts per million)のH2S(6000ppmのH2S/N2)の流れを、85又は150sccm(standard cubic centimeters per minute)でその中に流した。これは夫々、85又は150LHSVの空間速度という結果となった。85sccmの流量では34.08時間の間、150sccmの流量では18.65時間の間、GCにおいてH2Sに関連するGCピークは見られず、その時点で、漏出があった。実施例2における硫黄負荷の計算を用いると、このサンプルにより吸収された硫黄は、鉄含量の重量に対して、85sccmの流量で約372%であり、150sccmの流量では約359%であった。これらのサンプルの硫黄負荷は、漏出が検出されるまでに吸収された硫黄の総量(夫々、1.48グラム及び1.43グラムの硫黄)に基づいて計算された。この実施例における条件下ではブランクを流していなかったため、この実施例における硫黄負荷の計算では、実施例2における場合と同様にブランクを考慮していない。これは、100%よりも大きい硫黄負荷を成し遂げるという新しい吸着剤の能力が、用いられる流量に、特に20乃至150sccmの範囲の全ての流量にほとんど依存しないということを証明する。
実施例11に従って調製されたサンプルを用いて、60mlの最終のサンプルに0.055グラムの硫化ナトリウムを加えたことを除いて実施例1における使用と同じ条件下で、H2Sの吸収を試験した。その後、サンプルをバブラに導入して、窒素(N2)をキャリアとする6000ppm(parts per million)のH2S(6000ppmのH2S/N2)の流れを、20又は150sccm(standard cubic centimeters per minute)ででコースティック溶液中に流した。H2Sの漏出は、20sccmの流量では162時間で発生し、150sccmの流量では19.67時間で発生し、GCのピークとして測定された。この結果は、硫黄負荷は、鉄含量の重量に対して、20sccmの流量では約416%、150sccmの流量では約379%となった。これらのサンプルの硫黄負荷は、漏出が検出されるまでに吸収された硫黄の総量(夫々1.68グラム及び1.51グラムの硫黄)に基づいて計算された。この実施例における条件下ではブランクを流していなかったため、この実施例における硫黄負荷の計算では、実施例2における場合と同様にブランクを考慮していない。これは、酸化鉄(II)及び/又は水酸化鉄(II)の安定化に使用された様々な添加剤、例えば、これらに限定されないが金属塩、窒素化合物や有機溶媒が、本発明において同様に使用できることを証明している。
Claims (34)
- 流体流から硫黄化合物を除去するのに有用な吸着剤において、
酸化物、水酸化物、及びそれらの混合物からなる群から選択された鉄(II)化合物であって、吸着剤中の鉄は、主に第一鉄である、鉄(II)化合物と、
アルカリ化合物を含んでおり、鉄(II)化合物を安定化できるアルカリ性流体と、
を含んでおり、
アルカリ性流体中のアルカリ化合物対鉄(II)化合物のモル比が、少なくとも4:1であり、
吸着剤は、塩素陰イオン及び硫酸陰イオンを実質的に含んでいない、
吸着剤。 - 鉄(II)化合物は、3マイクロメートルよりも小さい粒子サイズを有する、請求項1に記載の吸着剤。
- 鉄(II)化合物の粒子サイズは、10ナノメートルよりも小さい、請求項2に記載の吸着剤。
- 鉄(II)化合物は、酸化鉄(II)又は水酸化鉄(II)である、請求項1に記載の吸着剤。
- アルカリ化合物は、KOH、NaOH、及びNH4OHからなる群より選択される、請求項1に記載の吸着剤。
- アルカリ化合物は、KOHであり、KOHは、少なくとも0.7のモル濃度を有する、請求項5に記載の吸着剤。
- 吸着剤を形成する方法において、
炭酸鉄(II)を供給する工程と、
アルカリ化合物を含むアルカリ性流体を供給する工程と、
アルカリ化合物と炭酸鉄(II)とを少なくとも4:1のモル比で混合する工程と、
その混合物を、酸化物、水酸化物、及びそれらの混合物からなる群から選択された鉄(II)化合物を形成するのに充分な時間、少なくとも40℃まで加熱する工程と、
を含んでおり、
吸着剤中の鉄は主に第一鉄であり、
吸着剤は、塩素陰イオン及び硫酸陰イオンを実質的に含んでいない、
方法。 - 炭酸鉄(II)は、菱鉄鉱によって供給される、請求項7に記載の方法。
- アルカリ性流体を溶解する又は希釈することで発生した熱が、混合物を少なくとも40℃まで加熱する工程をもたらす、請求項7に記載の方法。
- アルカリ性流体のアルカリ化合物対炭酸鉄(II)のモル比は、4:1乃至6:1である、請求項7に記載の方法。
- 形成された鉄(II)化合物は、水酸化鉄(II)である、請求項7に記載の方法。
- アルカリ化合物は、KOH、NaOH、及びNH4OHからなる群より選択される、請求項7に記載の方法。
- アルカリ化合物は、KOHであり、KOHは、少なくとも0.7のモル濃度を有する、請求項12に記載の方法。
- 鉄(II)化合物の形成は、黒色の沈殿物の形成により測定される、請求項7に記載の方法。

- 天然ガス、液化天然ガスのような軽炭化水素流、原油、酸性ガスの混合物、二酸化炭素ガス及び二酸化炭素液体流、嫌気性ガス、埋立地ガス、地熱流及びその他の硫黄を含有する流体炭化水素流のような、硫黄を含む非水流体流から硫黄化合物を除去する方法において、
1又は複数種の硫黄化合物を含む非水流体流を供給する工程と、
酸化物、水酸化物及びそれらの混合物からなる群から選択された安定化された鉄(II)化合物と、非水流体流とを接触させる工程と、
を含んでおり、
安定化された鉄(II)化合物中の鉄は主に第一鉄であり、安定化された鉄(II)化合物は、アルカリ性流体によって安定化されており、アルカリ性流体のアルカリ化合物と安定化された鉄(II)化合物のモル比は少なくとも4:1であり、
アルカリ性流体及び安定化された鉄(II)化合物は、塩素陰イオン及び硫酸陰イオンを実質的に含んでいない、
方法。 - 安定化された鉄(II)化合物は、3マイクロメートルよりも小さい粒子サイズを有する、請求項17に記載の方法。
- 安定化された鉄(II)化合物の粒子サイズは、10ナノメートルよりも小さい、請求項18に記載の方法。
- 安定化された鉄(II)化合物は、酸化鉄(II)又は水酸化鉄(II)である、請求項17に記載の方法。
- アルカリ化合物は、KOH、NaOH及びNH4OHからなる群より選択される、請求項17に記載の方法。
- 非水流体流は、液化天然ガス(NGL)、原油、酸性ガス混合物、二酸化炭素ガス及び二酸化炭素液体流、嫌気性ガス、埋立地ガス、地熱ガス、他の炭化水素流、及びそれらの混合物からなる群から選択される、請求項17に記載の方法。
- 硫黄化合物は、H2Sである、請求項17又は22に記載の方法。
- アルカリ化合物は、KOHである、請求項23に記載の方法。
- 安定化された鉄(II)化合物を形成する工程を更に含んでおり、当該工程は、
炭酸鉄(II)を供給する工程と、
アルカリ性流体を供給する工程と、
アルカリ化合物と炭酸鉄(II)が少なくとも4:1のモル比になるように、アルカリ性流体と炭酸鉄(II)を混合する工程と、
安定化された炭酸鉄(II)の形成に充分な時間、混合物を少なくとも40℃まで加熱する工程と、
を含む方法を用いている、請求項17に記載の方法。 - 炭酸鉄(II)は、菱鉄鉱により供給される、請求項25に記載の方法。
- アルカリ性流体を溶解する又は希釈することで発生した熱が、混合物を少なくとも40℃まで加熱する工程をもたらす、請求項25に記載の方法。
- アルカリ化合物は、KOH、NaOH及びNH4OHからなる群より選択される、請求項25に記載の方法。
- アルカリ化合物は、KOHであり、KOHは、少なくとも0.7のモル濃度を有する、請求項28に記載の方法。
