[0059]合計で240のフィラメントを有するSpectraマルチフィラメントヤーンから、100:1の断面アスペクト比、50.0g/d(4.31GPa)のテナシティー、0.030未満のDSC低温面積比を有し、X線分析によって長周期を有しないUHMWPEテープを製造した。
[0060]高度にコンソリデーションした実質的に空隙を有しない長さ1インチのテープ部分、及びより少なくコンソリデーションした多孔質の長さ1インチのテープ部分の繰り返しパターンが存在するように、その長さに沿って変動する繊維コンソリデーションを有する本発明のテープ物品を製造した。

[0062]隣接する層におけるテープの方向が互いから約15〜90°回転しているテープ物品の2以上の一方向層を含む本発明のテープ物品を用いて、積層体を形成することができる。1つのかかる例においては、実施例5において記載した本発明のテープ物品を複数のパッケージ内に巻き取り、パッケージをクリール上に配置した。クリールから解舒し、横方向に接触させて平行に整列させたテープ物品の複数の端部を、厚さ0.00035cmの高密度ポリエチレン(HDPE)フィルムから構成されるキャリアウエブ上に配置した。キャリアウエブ及びテープ物品を、加圧下で加熱したニップロールに通して、テープ物品をキャリアウエブに接着させた。キャリアウエブ及び接着した平行なテープ物品を、2つのロールに巻き取った。2つのロールを、米国特許5,173,138に記載されているクロスプライ装置中に供給して、テープ物品を含むウエブをクロスプライし、熱及び圧力を用いてコンソリデーションした。これによって4層積層体が形成され、層は積層体を通る連続の順番でHDPE−テープ物品−テープ物品−HDPEであり、隣接する層におけるテープの方向は互いに対して直角であった。次に積層体を巻き取った。
[0063]実施例10において記載したバスケット織り布帛を積層し、緩く結合させて、1.5Kg/m2の面密度を有する本発明のアセンブリを形成した。このアセンブリは、MIL.-STD. 662Fによって測定して、9×19mmのFMJパラベラム弾に対して少なくとも約500J・m2/Kgの比エネルギー吸収を有していると予測される。
[0064]実施例11において記載した積層体を積層し、コンソリデーションして、1.5Kg/m2の面密度を有する耐衝撃性及び耐貫入性の複合体物品を形成した。この複合体物品は、MIL.-STD. 662Fによって測定して、9×19mmのFMJパラベラム弾に対して少なくとも約500J・m2/Kgの比エネルギー吸収を有していると予測される。
[0065]実施例11において記載した積層体、及び実施例10において記載したバスケット織り布帛を積層し、コンソリデーションして、1.5Kg/m2の面密度を有する耐衝撃性及び耐貫入性の複合体物品を形成した。この複合体物品は、MIL.-STD. 662Fによって測定して、9×19mmのFMJパラベラム弾に対して少なくとも約500J・m2/Kgの比エネルギー吸収を有していると予測される。
以下に本発明の態様を記載する。
(1)少なくとも約10:1の平均断面アスペクト比;及び
10℃/分の一定速度での30℃の温度から200℃の温度への温度上昇DSCスキャンによって測定して約0.15未満の、曲線(120℃〜165℃)下の全面積に対する曲線(120℃〜Tm開始点)下の低温面積の比;
を有する、超高分子量ポリエチレンマルチフィラメントヤーンから製造されるテープ物品。
(2)テープ物品のテナシティーが、ASTM−D882−09によって10インチ(25.4cm)のゲージ長さ及び100%/分の伸張速度において測定して少なくとも約24g/d(2.07GPa)である、(1)に記載のテープ物品。
(3)テープ物品が、小角X線分析によって測定して450オングストローム(Å)未満の長周期を有しない、(2)に記載のテープ物品。
(4)テープ物品が、小角X線分析によって測定して450オングストローム(Å)未満の長周期を有しない、(1)に記載のテープ物品。
(5)テープ物品のテナシティーが少なくとも約30g/d(2.59GPa)である、(1)に記載のテープ物品。
(6)テープ物品のテナシティーが少なくとも約40g/d(3.45GPa)である、(1)に記載のテープ物品。
(7)10℃/分の一定速度での30℃の温度から200℃の温度への温度上昇DSCスキャンによって測定して、曲線(120℃〜165℃)下の全面積に対する曲線(120℃〜Tm開始点)下の低温面積の比が約0.05未満である、(1)に記載のテープ物品。
(8)テープ物品が半透明である、(1)に記載のテープ物品。
(9)テープ物品が重量基準で95%より大きい超高分子量ポリエチレン含量を有する、(1)に記載のテープ物品。
(10)テープ物品が重量基準で98%より大きい超高分子量ポリエチレン含量を有する、(1)に記載のテープ物品。
Claims (7)
- 少なくとも10:1の平均断面アスペクト比;及び
10℃/分の一定速度での30℃の温度から200℃の温度への温度上昇DSCスキャンによって測定して0.15未満の、曲線(120℃〜165℃)下の全面積に対する曲線(120℃〜Tm開始点)下の低温面積の比;
を有する、超高分子量ポリエチレンマルチフィラメントヤーンから製造されるテープ物品。 - テープ物品が、小角X線分析によって測定して450オングストローム(Å)未満の長周期を有しない、請求項1に記載のテープ物品。
- 10℃/分の一定速度での30℃の温度から200℃の温度への温度上昇DSCスキャンによって測定して、曲線(120℃〜165℃)下の全面積に対する曲線(120℃〜Tm開始点)下の低温面積の比が0.05未満である、請求項1に記載のテープ物品。
- 10mmよりも大きい幅を有する、請求項1に記載のテープ物品。
- ボイドフリーである、請求項1に記載のテープ物品。
- 複数の請求項1に記載のテープ物品から形成される布帛または積層体。
- 25g/d(2.15GPa)〜100g/d(8.62GPa)のテナシティーを有する超高分子量ポリエチレンマルチフィラメントヤーンから製造されるテープ物品であって、
少なくとも10:1の平均断面アスペクト比;及び
10℃/分の一定速度での30℃の温度から200℃の温度への温度上昇DSCスキャンによって測定して0.15未満の、曲線(120℃〜165℃)下の全面積に対する曲線(120℃〜Tm開始点)下の低温面積の比;
を有する、テープ物品。
