以下、本発明による実施例と比較例を通じて前記液晶フィルムをより詳しく説明するが、 前記粘着剤組成物の範囲は、下記提示された実施例により限定されるものではない。
CLC組成物は、Merck社製のCLC混合物であるRMM856をトルエン及びシクロヘキサノンの混合溶媒(重量の割合=7:3(トルエン:シクロヘキサノン)に固形粉が40重量%程度になるように溶解させた後、均一な溶液の形成のために60℃で1時間程度加熱した後に充分に冷やして製造した。

基材層として、PET(poly(ethylene terephthalate)、MRL38、Mitsubishi社製)基材の一面に、300Wattの条件で5秒間コロナ処理を実行して親水性表面が形成された基材層を製造した。前記PET基材の水に対するぬれ角は、約60度程度であり、前記紫外線の照射を通じて親水性表面の水に対するぬれ角が約30度〜40度になるように調節した。以後、前記基材層の親水性表面上にCLC組成物(A)をワイヤバーでコーティングし、100℃で2分間乾燥させて厚さが約5μmである液晶層を形成した。その後、約60℃の温度で乾燥されたコーティング層に波長が紫外線照射装備(TLK40W/10R、Philips社製)で350nm〜400nm程度の範囲内である紫外線を照射してキラル剤の濃度勾配を誘導した(光量:約100mJ/cm2)。濃度勾配を誘導した後、さらに紫外線照射装備(Fusion UV、400W)で組成物が充分に硬化されるように紫外線を照射し、コーティング層を重合させてCLC層を形成し、液晶フィルムを製造した。前記のように製造された液晶フィルムに対して、Murakami color Research Laboratory社のヘイズメーター(HR−100)を使用してヘイズを測定した結果、約10%程度のヘイズを示した。これを通じてCLC層内にホメオトロピック及び/またはフォーカルコニック配向されたCLC領域が適切に形成されたことを確認することができる。
前記製造された液晶フィルムのCLC層をλ/4波長層と付着して反射型偏光板を製造した。λ/4波長層では、TAC基材の一面に配向膜及び液晶層が順に形成されているλ/4波長層を使用し、前記λ/4波長層の液晶層をCLC層と粘着剤で付着して反射型偏光板を製造した。
コロナ処理が実行されなかったPET基材を使用したことの以外は、実施例1と同一な方式で液晶フィルム及び反射型偏光板を製造した。前記製造された液晶フィルムに対して、Murakami color Research Laboratory社のヘイズメーター(HR−100)を使用してヘイズを測定した結果、約2%程度のヘイズを示した。
Axo metrics社のAxo Scan機器を使用して、実施例1及び比較例1で製造された液晶フィルムの広帯域反射特性を確認し、その結果を図14及び図15に各々添付した。図14は、実施例1の結果、図15は、比較例1の結果を示し、各図面において、x軸は、波長を示し、y軸は、透過率を示す。また、図14及び図15において、『0』で表示された線は、正面で測定した結果であり。『55』で表示された線は、55度の勾配角で測定した結果である。図14及び図15の結果から実施例では正面及び勾配角で安定的な広帯域特性を示すことを確認することができる。
製造された反射型偏光板のCLC層側で光源を照射しながら前記CLC層を透過して出た光のCIEのx及びy数値をEldim社のEZ Contrast装備を利用して製造社のマニュアルに応じて測定し、下記に記載した。

Claims (15)
- 基材と、前記基材の少なくとも一面に形成された液晶層と、を有し、
前記液晶層は、
コレステリック液晶分子の長軸の螺旋軸が前記液晶層の厚さ方向と平行に形成されているコレステリック配向された液晶領域と、前記螺旋軸が前記液晶層の厚さ方向と平行ではないように形成されているコレステリック配向された液晶領域と、
を含み、
前記螺旋軸が前記液晶層の厚さ方向と平行ではないように形成されているコレステリック配向された液晶領域が前記液晶層内で前記基材側に分布するとともに、前記基材の面と平行な方向に層を形成し、
前記螺旋軸が前記液晶層の厚さ方向と平行に形成されているコレステリック配向された液晶領域が前記液晶層内で他の領域に形成され、
前記液晶層は、ヘイズが5%から30%であることを特徴とする液晶フィルム。 - 前記液晶層は、反射光の中心波長がお互いに相異なっている2種類のコレステリック配向された液晶領域を含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶フィルム。
- 前記液晶層は、下記化学式1で表示される化合物を架橋または重合された形態で含むことを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の液晶フィルム。
- 前記液晶層は、キラル剤をさらに含むことを特徴とする請求項3に記載の液晶フィルム。
- 前記液晶層は、厚さが3μm〜8μmであることを特徴とする請求項1から4の何れか1項に記載の液晶フィルム。
- 前記基材の面は、水に対するぬれ角が0度〜50度であることを特徴とする請求項1から5の何れか1項に記載の液晶フィルム。
- 前記基材の面は、水に対するぬれ角が10度〜50度であることを特徴とする請求項1から6の何れか1項に記載の液晶フィルム。
- コレステリック配向された液晶領域を含む単一層の液晶層を基材の少なくとも一面に形成する方法を含み、請求項1から7の何れか1項に記載の液晶フィルムを製造する方法において、
前記液晶領域が、コレステリック液晶分子の長軸の螺旋軸が前記液晶層の厚さ方向と平行に配向されたコレステリック配向領域と、前記螺旋軸が前記液晶層の厚さ方向と平行ではないように配向されたコレステリック配向領域と、を含み、
前記螺旋軸が前記液晶層の厚さ方向と平行ではないように形成されているコレステリック配向された液晶領域が前記液晶層内で前記基材側に分布するとともに、前記基材の面と平行な方向に層を形成し、
前記螺旋軸が前記液晶層の厚さ方向と平行に形成されているコレステリック配向された液晶領域が前記液晶層内で他の領域に形成され、
前記液晶層は、ヘイズが5%から30%であることを特徴とする液晶フィルムの製造方法。 - 液晶層の形成過程は、水に対するぬれ角が0度〜50度である基材の面にコレステリック液晶組成物を塗布する過程を含むことを特徴とする、請求項8に記載の液晶フィルムの製造方法。
- 請求項1から7の何れか1項に記載の液晶フィルム、及び前記液晶フィルムの液晶層の上部に形成されているλ/4波長層を含むことを特徴とする光学素子。
- 前記λ/4波長層は、基板と、前記基板の上部に形成されている配向膜と、前記配向膜の上部に形成されている液晶層と、を含み、前記液晶層が前記液晶フィルムの液晶層と接していることを特徴とする請求項10に記載の光学素子。
- 前記λ/4波長層の上部に配置された偏光素子をさらに含むことを特徴とする請求項10または11に記載の光学素子。
- 請求項10から12の何れか1項に記載の光学素子を含むことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。
- 液晶パネルと前記液晶パネルの一側に配置された光源とを含み、前記光学素子が前記液晶パネルと光源との間に配置されていることを特徴とする請求項13に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記光学素子は、液晶フィルムがλ/4波長層に比べて光源が近く位置するように配置されていることを特徴とする請求項14に記載の液晶表示装置。
