Claims (5)
- 気筒内に燃料を直接、噴射するとともに、当該噴射された燃料と前記気筒に吸入された空気との混合気を火花点火によって着火させ、燃焼させる筒内直噴式の内燃機関であって、
頂面にキャビティが形成され、前記気筒内を往復動するピストンと、
前記気筒内の燃焼室の中心付近に上方から臨み、前記混合気を着火させるための火花を発生させる点火プラグと、
前記燃焼室に臨み、圧縮行程中の所定のクランク角度において、燃料の複数の噴霧を、互いに異なる方向に、前記ピストンの頂面に向かって斜めにそれぞれ噴射する複数の噴射口を有する燃料噴射弁と、を備え、
前記キャビティは、前記ピストンの中心付近から前記燃料噴射弁側に配置されており、底面と、前記ピストンの中心付近において当該底面からほぼ垂直に立ち上がる垂直壁と、当該垂直壁の両側に連なり、前記燃料噴射弁側に向かって延びる一対の側壁とを有し、
前記複数の噴霧は、
前記キャビティの垂直壁と当該垂直壁に隣接する前記ピストンの頂面の隣接部とに向かって噴射される第1噴霧と、
前記キャビティの前記一対の側壁にそれぞれ衝突し、当該一対の側壁に沿って前記垂直壁側に流れる一対の第2噴霧と、
前記キャビティの底面に衝突し、当該衝突により形成される渦流によって、前記第1噴霧および前記垂直壁の付近に集められた前記第2噴霧を、前記点火プラグ側に向かって持ち上げ、当該点火プラグの周りに集めるように指向させる第3噴霧を含むことを特徴とする内燃機関。 - 前記第1噴霧は、その中心軸が前記ピストンの頂面の前記隣接部に指向するように噴射され、前記キャビティの底面で反射した前記第3噴霧によって前記点火プラグ側に指向されることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の内燃機関。
- 前記複数の噴霧は、前記一対の第2噴霧の外側でかつ前記燃料噴射弁側に噴射され、前記ピストンの頂面の前記キャビティ以外の部分に衝突する一対の第4噴霧をさらに含むことを特徴とする、請求項1または2に記載の内燃機関。
- 前記第1噴霧の量、前記一対の第2噴霧の各々の量、前記第3噴霧の量、および前記一対の第4噴霧の各々の量は、互いに等しいことを特徴とする、請求項3に記載の内燃機関。
- 前記キャビティの前記一対の側壁は、前記垂直壁側に向かうにつれて、互いに狭まるように延びていることを特徴とする、請求項1ないし4のいずれかに記載の内燃機関。
