Claims (8)
- 繰返し変形から回復可能なシングルモード光導波管であって、
コアと、
このコアを囲む軟質の内層と、この軟質の内層を囲み且つこの軟質の内層よりも硬質の外層とからなる、クラッドとを有し、
このような同じシングルモード光導波管を2つ用意して、それらをある角度で交差させて変形させると、光導波管のモードフィールドの重なり合いを引き起こす変形導波管の物理的近接により、一方の光導波管から他方の光導波管への光の指向性結合がもたらされる、
シングルモード光導波管。 - 硬質の外層は、その内面に、格子構造体を有しており、
軟質の内層の厚さは、光導波管の非変形時のモードフィールドの外側に格子を維持する程度に十分な厚さであり、この結果、光の指向性結合は、非変形時に生じない、
請求項1に記載のシングルモード光導波管。 - 硬質の外層は、その内面に、軟質の内層よりも屈折率が高い、プリズムアレイを有しており、
軟質の内層の厚さは、光導波管の非変形時のモードフィールドの外側にプリズムアレイを維持する程度に十分な厚さであり、この結果、光の指向性結合は非変形時に生じない、
請求項1に記載のシングルモード光導波管。 - コアが、PMMAという硬質ポリマ、ポリカーボネート、フッ化ポリマ、ベンゾシクロブタン、SU−8 というエポキシ、あるいはシクロオレフィンコポリマ、あるいはフッ化ポリイミドから製造されたものであり、
軟質の内層は、シリコンエラストマまたはシリコンコポリマエラストマというエラストマから製造されたものであり、
硬質の外層は、繰返し変形から回復する程度に十分に頑丈な、より高いモジュラスのポリマ、ポリイミド、ポリナルボネン、架橋シリコン、またはフッ化アクリルというフッ化ポリマから製造されたものである、
請求項1〜3の何れかに記載のシングルモード光導波管。 - 軟質の内層は、ポリブタジエン、ポリ(スチレン−b−ブタジエン)、シリコン、またはポリイソプレンから選択されるピエゾ光学係数または応力光学係数の高いポリマから製造されており、応力が印加される領域(92)では、応力が印加された材料が光学的に通常異方性を有するために屈折率が増加されるようにされており、
この屈折率の増加が、コアおよび軟質の内層の屈折率の値を接近させ、減衰定数を低減し、またモードフィールド(88) の1/e 輪郭はクラッド内に延在して他の導波管と相互作用して、一方の導波管から他方の導波管への光の指向性結合をもたらすようにされている、
請求項1に記載のシングルモード光導波管。 - 一方の光導波管と他方の光導波管とが変形させられて接触する平坦部に、結合ゲルが使用されている、
請求項5に記載のシングルモード光導波管。 - 屈折率の増加が1〜2%の範囲内にある、
請求項5または6に記載のシングルモード光導波管。 - ある角度が、0.5〜2.0度の範囲内の角度である、
請求項1〜7の何れかに記載のシングルモード光導波管。
