Description
本実施の形態では、本発明の一態様の概念について説明する。図1に本発明の一態様の発光素子の概念図を示す。
本実施の形態では、図1(A)で説明した本発明の一態様の発光素子の具体的な構成について、図2(A)を用いて説明する。
本実施の形態では、図1(B)で説明した本発明の一態様の発光素子の具体的な構成について、図2(B)を用いて説明する。
本実施の形態4では、実施の形態2や実施の形態3で述べた本発明の一態様の発光素子を基板上に形成した場合の積層順と発光方向について、図3および図4を用いて説明する。
実施の形態5では、本発明の一態様の複数の発光ユニットを積層した構成の発光素子(以下、積層型発光素子という)の態様について、図5を参照して説明する。この発光素子は、陽極と陰極との間に、複数の発光ユニットを有する積層型発光素子である。各発光ユニットの構成としては、図2(実施の形態2又は実施の形態3)で示した発光物質を含む層203と同様な構成を用いることができる。つまり、実施の形態2または実施の形態3で示した発光素子は、1つの発光ユニットを有する発光素子である。本実施の形態では、複数の発光ユニットを有する発光素子について説明するものである。
本願の実施の形態で発光物質として用いているアントラセン誘導体は三重項エネルギーが低く、リン光発光の効率損失が顕著に起こると考えられる。つまり、発光層に用いる材料や周辺材料の三重項エネルギーを考慮しなければならないということになる。そのため材料が限定され素子構造も煩雑になる。
本実施の形態6では、本発明の一態様の発光素子を有する発光装置について、図6を用いて説明する。なお、図6(A)は、発光装置を示す上面図、図6(B)は図6(A)をA−A’およびB−B’で切断した断面図である。この発光装置は、発光素子の発光を制御するものとして、点線で示された駆動回路部(ソース側駆動回路)601、画素部602、駆動回路部(ゲート側駆動回路)603を含んでいる。また、604は封止基板、605はシール材であり、シール材605で囲まれた内側は、空間607になっている。
本実施の形態7では、本発明の一態様の発光素子を有する発光装置の一例として、本発明の一態様の発光素子をバックライトとして用いた液晶表示装置を例示する。
本実施の形態8では、本発明の一態様の発光素子を有する発光装置の一例として、照明装置について説明する。
本実施の形態9では、本発明の一態様の発光装置をその一部に含む本発明の一態様の電子機器について説明する。特に、本発明の一態様の発光装置を表示部として含む本発明の一態様の電子機器について説明する。本発明の一態様の電子機器は、実施の形態6〜8で示したような本発明の一態様の発光装置を含むため、信頼性の高い表示部を有する。
発光素子1の作製例を、図11(A)を用いながら説明する。まず、陽極2001として110nmの膜厚でインジウム錫珪素酸化物(ITSO)が成膜されたガラス基板2000を用意した。ITSO表面は、2mm角の大きさで表面が露出するよう周辺をポリイミド膜で覆い、電極面積は2mm×2mmとした。この基板上に発光素子を形成するための前処理として、基板表面を水で洗浄し、200℃で1時間焼成した後、UVオゾン処理を370秒行った。その後、10−4Pa程度まで内部が減圧された真空蒸着装置に基板を導入し、真空蒸着装置内の加熱室で、170℃で30分間の真空焼成を行った。その後、基板を30分程度、放冷した。
第1の発光層2011における陽極側に位置する層2021のCzPAとPCBAPAの比率を、重量比で1:4(CzPA:PCBAPA)とした以外は、発光素子1と同様に成膜することで、発光素子2を作製した。
比較のため、第1の発光層2011における陽極側に位置する層2021のCzPAとPCBAPAの比率を、重量比で1:0.1(CzPA:PCBAPA)とした以外は、発光素子1と同様に成膜することで、比較発光素子3を作製した。比較発光素子3は陽極側に位置する層2021におけるCzPAの比率が、PCBAPAより多いため、比較発光素子3における陽極側に位置する層2021の輸送性は電子輸送性となっており、キャリアの再結合は第1の発光層2011と第2の発光層2012との界面近傍となる。
以上により得られた本発明の一態様の発光素子1、本発明の一態様の発光素子2、比較発光素子3を、窒素雰囲気のグローブボックス内において、発光素子が大気に曝されないように封止する作業を行った後、これらの発光素子の動作特性について測定を行った。なお、測定は室温(25℃に保たれた雰囲気)で行った。
発光素子2における陽極側に位置する層2021の膜厚を30nmとした以外は、発光素子2と同様に成膜することで、発光素子4を作製した。
以上により得られた本発明の一態様の発光素子4を、窒素雰囲気のグローブボックス内において、発光素子が大気に曝されないように封止する作業を行った後、その動作特性について測定を行った。なお、測定は室温(25℃に保たれた雰囲気)で行った。
発光素子4における陽極側に位置する層2021をPCBAPAのみからなる膜によって形成した以外は、発光素子4と同様に成膜することで、発光素子5を作製した。
以上により得られた本発明の一態様の発光素子5を、窒素雰囲気のグローブボックス内において、発光素子が大気に曝されないように封止する作業を行った後、その動作特性について測定を行った。なお、測定は室温(25℃に保たれた雰囲気)で行った。
第2の発光層2012以外は実施例1の発光素子5と同様に形成した。第2の発光層2012はPCCPAと黄色に発光する発光物質であるルブレンとの共蒸着することにより形成(重量比は1:0.01(PCCPA:ルブレン))し、その膜厚を20nmとした。第2の発光層2012はルブレンが発光物質となるため、黄色発光を示す発光層となる。
以上により得られた本発明の一態様の発光素子6を、窒素雰囲気のグローブボックス内において、発光素子が大気に曝されないように封止する作業を行った後、その動作特性について測定を行った。なお、測定は室温(25℃に保たれた雰囲気)で行った。

Claims (7)
- 陽極と陰極との間に、第1の発光層と、前記第1の発光層の前記陽極側に接して設けられた第2の発光層とを有し、
前記第1の発光層は、陽極側に位置する層と、陰極側に位置する層と、からなり、
前記陽極側に位置する層は、第1の有機化合物と第1の発光物質とを含み、
前記陽極側に位置する層における前記第1の発光物質の含有量は50重量%以上100重量%未満であり、
前記陰極側に位置する層は、第2の有機化合物と前記第1の発光物質とを含み、
前記陰極側に位置する層における前記第2の有機化合物の含有量は50重量%以上99.9重量%以下であり、
前記第2の発光層は、第3の有機化合物と第2の発光物質とを含み、
前記第2の発光層における前記第3の有機化合物の含有量は50重量%以上99.9重量%以下であり、
前記陽極側に位置する層は正孔輸送性を有し、
前記陰極側に位置する層は電子輸送性を有し、
前記第2の発光層は正孔輸送性を有し、
前記第1の発光物質からの発光と前記第2の発光物質からの発光が得られる発光素子。 - 陽極と陰極との間に、第1の発光層と、前記第1の発光層の前記陽極側に接して設けられた第2の発光層とを有し、
前記第1の発光層は、陽極側に位置する層と、陰極側に位置する層と、からなり、
前記陽極側に位置する層は、第1の発光物質からなり、
前記陰極側に位置する層は、第2の有機化合物と前記第1の発光物質とを含み、
前記陰極側に位置する層における前記第2の有機化合物の含有量は50重量%以上99.9重量%以下であり、
前記第2の発光層は、第3の有機化合物と第2の発光物質とを含み、
前記第2の発光層における前記第3の有機化合物の含有量は50重量%以上99.9重量%以下であり、
前記陽極側に位置する層は正孔輸送性を有し、
前記陰極側に位置する層は電子輸送性を有し、
前記第2の発光層は正孔輸送性を有し、
前記第1の発光物質からの発光と前記第2の発光物質からの発光が得られる発光素子。 - 陽極と陰極との間に、第1の発光層と、前記第1の発光層の前記陽極側に接して設けられた第2の発光層とを有し、
前記第1の発光層は、陽極側に位置する層と、陰極側に位置する層と、からなり、
前記陽極側に位置する層は、第1の有機化合物と第1の発光物質とを含み、
前記陽極側に位置する層における前記第1の発光物質の含有量は50重量%以上100重量%未満であり、
前記陰極側に位置する層は、第2の有機化合物と前記第1の発光物質とを含み、
前記陰極側に位置する層における前記第2の有機化合物の含有量は50重量%以上99.9重量%以下であり、
前記第2の発光層は、第3の有機化合物と第2の発光物質とを含み、
前記第2の発光層における前記第3の有機化合物の含有量は50重量%以上99.9重量%以下であり、
前記第1の発光物質は正孔輸送性を有し、
前記第2の有機化合物は電子輸送性を有し、
前記第3の有機化合物は正孔輸送性を有し、
前記第1の発光物質からの発光と前記第2の発光物質からの発光が得られる発光素子。 - 陽極と陰極との間に、第1の発光層と、前記第1の発光層の前記陽極側に接して設けられた第2の発光層とを有し、
前記第1の発光層は、陽極側に位置する層と、陰極側に位置する層と、からなり、
前記陽極側に位置する層は、第1の発光物質からなり、
前記陰極側に位置する層は、第2の有機化合物と前記第1の発光物質とを含み、
前記陰極側に位置する層における前記第2の有機化合物の含有量は50重量%以上99.9重量%以下であり、
前記第2の発光層は、第3の有機化合物と第2の発光物質とを含み、
前記第2の発光層における前記第3の有機化合物の含有量は50重量%以上99.9重量%以下であり、
前記第1の発光物質は正孔輸送性を有し、
前記第2の有機化合物は電子輸送性を有し、
前記第3の有機化合物は正孔輸送性を有し、
前記第1の発光物質からの発光と前記第2の発光物質からの発光が得られる発光素子。 - 請求項1乃至請求項4のいずれか一項において、
前記第1の発光物質がアントラセンとジアリールアミノ基がアリーレン基を介して結合している化合物である発光素子。 - 請求項1乃至請求項5のいずれか一項において、
前記第1の発光物質の発光ピーク波長が、前記第2の発光物質の発光ピーク波長よりも短波長である発光素子。 - 請求項1乃至請求項6のいずれか一項において、
前記第1の発光物質の発光色と、前記第2の発光物質の発光色が、互いに補色の関係にある発光素子。
