Description
本出願は、米国特許仮出願第60/893,003号(2007年3月5日出願)、名称「レーザー切り込み研磨材物品、及び方法(Laser Cut Abrasive Article, and Methods)」の優先権を主張するものであり、その開示全体を本明細書に組み入れる。
本開示は、研磨材物品、そのような研磨材物品の作製方法、及びそのような研磨材物品の使用方法に関する。
上述のように、コーティングされた研磨材物品は裏材を有して、その上に研磨材コーティングが塗布される。裏材は、前面表面(例えば面12a)及び裏面表面(例えば面12b)を有し、並びにいかなる研磨材用裏材にもすることができる。好適な裏材の例には、下塗りされた高分子フィルムを包含する高分子フィルム、布、紙、バルカナイズドファイバー、熱可塑性樹脂の裏材、不織布、及びこれらの組合せが挙げられる。所望により、多層の裏材が使用されてもよい。多層の裏材は、通常は層を共に保持する接着剤を有する、1つ以上の既知の裏材材料の積層体であってもよい。繊維状の補強材が、これらの材料のいずれかの中又は表面上に加えられてもよい。幾つかの研磨材物品の場合、金属が、好適な裏材である。
研磨材粒子
研磨材粒子(例えば研磨材粒子15)は、典型的には約0.1〜1500マイクロメートルの範囲の、通常は約0.1〜400マイクロメートルの、粒径を有する。粒径は、幾つかの実施形態では、0.1〜100マイクロメートルであり、別の実施形態では、0.1〜40マイクロメートルである。本開示に従うレーザー変換は、約40マイクロメートル未満の粒径を有する研磨材粒子を利用する研磨材コーティングに対して、特に有益である。
研磨材粒子は、結合剤で粘着されて、研磨材物品を形成する。大部分のコーティングされた研磨材物品の場合、結合剤は、有機又は高分子の結合剤であり、結合剤前駆体から誘導される。コーティングされた研磨材物品の製造中に、結合剤前駆体はエネルギー源にさらされ、これが結合剤前駆体の重合又は硬化を開始する助けをする。
本開示のコーティングされた研磨材物品は、既知のコーティングプロセスにより作製することができる。
好適なパルスレーザーの1つの特定例に、次のようなものがある。

幾つかの研磨材物品が、従来のメイク/サイズコーティング技法を用いて作製された。これらの試験については、スーパーサイズは実施されず、裏材上の取付けシステムも実施されなかった。研磨材物品は、CO2レーザーの使用で、内部開口を有するディスクに変換された。
従来のメイク/サイズコーティングを有してスーパーサイズコーティングが無い幾つかの市販研磨材物品(3M社(3M Company)からの「360L」グレードP800)に、次の手順を用いて、アクリル転写両面テープ(dual-sided acrylic transfer tape)(3M社からの「3M 9695 5ミルの転写テープ」)を積層した。テープのある長さを母ロールから巻き戻して切断し、接着剤テープの裸面を露出させた。次に、研磨材物品の研磨材面に反対の裏面に、テープの露出した粘着面を手で積層させた。積層された研磨材が、CO2レーザーで、裏面(すなわち転写テープ面)を貫いて穿孔されて、12.7cm(5インチ)直径のディスクに切断された。比較例は、前面(すなわち研磨材面)を貫いて切り込まれた。
3.切り込み後のスーパーサイズコーティング塗布
従来のメイク/サイズコーティングを有してスーパーサイズコーティングが無い、幾つかの市販研磨材物品(3M社(3M Company)からの「360L」グレードP800)が、次の試験用の基材として使用された。実施例1の場合、内部穴を有さない標準研磨材物品が、使用された。実施例2の場合、ステアリン酸亜鉛のスーパーサイズコーティングが、内部穴を有さない研磨材物品に塗布された。実施例3の場合、内部真空穴が、ステアリン酸亜鉛のスーパーサイズコーティングを有する研磨材物品の裏面を貫いて、レーザー切り込みされた。実施例4の場合、内部真空穴が、研磨材物品の裏面を貫いてレーザー切り込みされ、その後で、ステアリン酸亜鉛のスーパーサイズコーティングが、塗布された。
Claims (2)
- (a)裏材であって、前記裏材の第一面上に研磨材コーティングを有する、裏材と、
(b)前記裏材及び前記研磨材コーティングを貫く少なくとも10の開口であって、それぞれの開口が側壁を有する、少なくとも10の開口と、
(c)脂肪酸の金属塩を含むスーパーサイズコーティングであって、前記スーパーサイズコーティングが、前記研磨材コーティング及び前記側壁を覆って存在する、スーパーサイズコーティングと、を含む、研磨材物品であって、
各開口が、切り込み後に露出した新表面を含む側壁を有し、前記露出した新表面が前記裏材及び前記研磨材コーティングを含み、
前記スーパーサイズコーティングが、前記研磨材コーティングの前記露出した新表面を覆い、かつ前記裏材の前記露出した新表面を覆う、研磨材物品。 - (a)第一面及び第二面を有する裏材の第一面上に研磨材コーティングを提供すること、
(b)前記裏材及び前記研磨材コーティングを貫く少なくとも10の開口であって、それぞれ側壁を有する開口を形成すること、並びに
(c)脂肪酸の金属塩を含むスーパーサイズコーティングであって、前記研磨材コーティング及び前記側壁を覆って存在するスーパーサイズコーティングを塗布すること、
を含み、
前記少なくとも10の開口を形成することが、
(d)レーザーエネルギーを前記裏材上に集束させることであって、前記レーザーエネルギーが、前記研磨材コーティングを貫通する前に、前記裏材の前記第二面を貫いて通ることを含む、研磨材物品を作製する方法。
