Description
Claims (13)
- 迷光の除去を容易にするように構成された光ファイバであって、
光信号を実質的に閉じ込め、伝搬するコア領域と、
前記コア領域を囲む内側クラッド層とを備え、前記内側クラッド層は前記コア領域の屈折率より小さい屈折率を示し、さらに、
前記内側クラッド層を囲む薄い外側クラッド層を備え、前記薄い外側クラッド層は、前記内側クラッド層に沿って伝搬する迷光を捕捉するように前記内側クラッドの屈折率より小さい屈折率を示し、そして、捕捉された迷光を前記光ファイバから制御可能に放散させるように10μm以下の厚さを有しており、前記内側クラッドと前記薄い外側クラッドの間の開口数NAが、0.15〜0.33の範囲内であり、さらに、
前記薄い外側クラッド層を囲み、かつ内側クラッド層の屈折率よりも大きい屈折率を有する外側被覆を備え、前記薄い外側クラッドによって捕捉された前記迷光が、該外側被覆内にその伸張長さ全体にわたって徐々にトンネリングし、前記迷光による該外側被覆の局所的な加熱を低減させ、
前記光ファイバを前記迷光の漸進的な放散を増加させるように曲げながら、曲げ半径を大きくして、前記薄い外側クラッド層から前記外側ポリマー被覆への迷光の移動を増大させることを特徴とする光ファイバ。 - 前記薄い外側クラッドが、前記内側クラッド層から前記薄い外側クラッド層に向かって迷光を効率的に移動させるための複数の散乱位置をさらに備えることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光ファイバ。
- 前記薄い外側クラッド層が5μm以下の厚さを示すことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光ファイバ。
- 前記外側被覆がポリマー材料を含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光ファイバ。
- 前記内側クラッド層と前記薄い外側クラッド層の間に、屈折率について実質的にステップインデックス型の違いが存在することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光ファイバ。
- 前記内側クラッド層と前記外側クラッド層の間の屈折率の差が約0.0167であることを特徴とする請求項5に記載の光ファイバ。
- 前記薄い外側クラッド層が、前記内側クラッド層との境界面から前記外側被覆層に向かって値が減少するグレーデッド型の屈折率の分布を示すことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光ファイバ。
- 前記薄い外側クラッド層が、前記内側クラッド層との境界面から前記外側被覆層に向かって値が増加するグレーデッド型の屈折率の分布を示すことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光ファイバ。
- 複数の別個の光信号を組み合わせ、関連付けられた伝送ファイバへの信号入力として複数の信号を提供するテーパ付きファイバ束であって、
複数の光信号の伝送をサポートする複数のファイバを含み、少なくとも1つのファイバが実質的にシングルモードの光入力信号の伝送をサポートし、前記ファイバの各々が、
関連付けられた光信号を閉じ込め、伝搬するコア領域と、
前記コア領域を囲み、前記コア領域の屈折率より小さい屈折率を示す内側クラッド層と、
前記内側クラッド層を囲む薄い外側クラッド層とを含み、前記薄い外側クラッド層は、前記内側クラッド層に沿って伝搬する迷光を捕捉するように前記内側クラッドの屈折率より小さい屈折率を示し、そして、捕捉された迷光を前記光ファイバから制御可能に放散させるように10μm以下の厚さを有しており、前記内側クラッドと前記薄い外側クラッドの間の開口数NAが、0.15〜0.33の範囲内であり、前記ファイバの各々はさらに、
前記薄い外側クラッド層を囲み、前記内側クラッドの屈折率より大きい屈折率を示す外側被覆を含み、前記薄い外側クラッドによって捕捉された前記迷光が、該外側被覆内にその伸張長さ全体にわたって徐々にトンネリングし、前記迷光による該外側被覆の局所的な加熱を低減させることを特徴とするテーパ付きファイバ束。 - 前記テーパ付きファイバ束が、クラッド励起型ファイバの増幅器に対する入力として利用され、前記複数のファイバが、実質的にシングルモードの光入力信号の伝送を維持するための信号ファイバを備え、残りのファイバが一連の別個のポンプ信号の伝搬を維持することを特徴とする請求項9に記載のテーパ付きファイバ束。
- 前記テーパ付きファイバ束が、高出力の大きいコアの伝送ファイバに対する入力として利用され、前記複数のファイバの各ファイバが、入力レーザ信号の伝送を維持するために利用され、その後、前記高出力の大きいコアの伝送ファイバ内で組み合わされることを特徴とする請求項9に記載のテーパ付きファイバ束。
- 少なくとも1つのコア領域、内側クラッド層および外側ポリマー被覆を含む光伝送ファイバに沿って伝搬する迷光を制御可能に除去する方法であって、
前記外側ポリマー被覆のすぐ内側に薄い外側クラッドを含み、該薄い外側クラッド層が10μm以下の厚さを有しており、前記内側クラッドと前記薄い外側クラッドの間の開口数NAが、0.15〜0.33の範囲内であるステップと、
少なくとも前記内側クラッド層に沿って伝搬する迷光を、前記薄い外側クラッド層内に捕捉するステップと、
前記迷光による前記外側被覆の局所的な加熱を最小限に抑えるために、前記迷光を前記外側ポリマー被覆内にその伸張部分に沿って徐々に放散させるステップとを含み、前記漸進的な放散が少なくとも前記薄い外側クラッドの厚さによって制御されるような前記内側クラッドの屈折率より大きい屈折率を有する外側被覆である、
ことを特徴とする方法。 - 前記迷光の前記外側ポリマー被覆内への前記漸進的な放散をさらに制御するために、ファイバを湾曲させるステップをさらに含み、曲げ半径を大きくして、前記外側クラッド層から前記外側ポリマー被覆への迷光の移動を増大させることを特徴とする請求項12に記載の方法。
